[Audio] Joe Goddard & Boris Dlugosch

Joe Goddard

Some deeply funky piano vibes right now from Hot Chip and The 2 Bears’ Joe Goddard new track, Step Together. His second solo outing this year features Boris Dlugosch and, like She Burns before it, once gain comes from the forthcoming Taking Over EP, out this week on Goddard’s own Greco-Roman imprint

Like the previous track, Step Together is a smooth, if a little left-field, Deep House groover with ElectroPop overtones. Rolling along on a hypnotic piano riff, Goddard and Dlugosch weave an intricate tapestry of sparking synths and pleasing vibes. Goddard’s soft spoken vocals, and message of togetherness, surfs the beat, flowing across the track like water, tying everything together into relaxed summer soundtrack. Goddard had admitted the EP is “an attempt to make synthesizers sound nice”, well, synthesizers already sounded nice, but his efforts are appreciated.

The next offering from Yuksek’s Partyfine label was released this week. It’s the pretty eagerly awaited new single, and third collaboration, from Peter & The Magician. The duo, which of course consists of talented Electro producer Yuksek and mixtape creator The Magician, have previously given us Twist and Memory, both amazing tunes, how does On My Brain stack up?

Featuring the vocals of Sophie Galpin, the voice of Figure Of 8’s No One Cries For Me, On My Brain sees Yuksek adding a little 90s House vibe to his sound. Still instantly recognisable as Yuksek, especially in the tracks piercing leads, there’s an added warehouse vibe in the bass section and rave drones. Along with Galpin’s resonant vocals, that really makes the track what it is, it’s all neatly tied together by Yuksek’s not-inconsiderable production skills as he takes these disparate elements and creates a cohesive, and funky, whole. This one’s going to fill dancefloors.

[Audio] Black Magic Disco’s ‘First Avenue’ reMixes

black-magic-disco_thumb

It’s been quite a while since the release of Black Magic Disco’s Downtown single, over a year in fact. The release came equipped with a storming B-side track, First Avenue, that this week gains single status of it’s own with the unleashing of BMD’s First Avenue reMixes on Pole Position Recordings. Pulling together talent such as Final DJs, Viper Strike, Phunktastike and Tom Eales, alongside BMD himself, this release covers a nice chunk of dancefloor ground.

The obvious track of most interest in the collection comes from Pole Position’s own Viper Strike who have teamed up with Mr. Patrick Baker to create a slick vocal version of the track. All sweeping synths and lazy piano hooks, Viper Strike’s mix a pure poolside bliss. A proper late summer nights groove with a smooth voice, these guys nicely weave together Disco and House. Germany’s Final DJs, the most prolific guys in Nu-Disco it seems, get into a bit of an SynthWave/Boogie crossover groove with their reMix. Mixing up Bronx beats with Acidic squeals and Sci-Fi synths, this duo roll their own genre and give it a Disco twist. Black Magic Disco’s own reimagining of First Avenue replaces the originals midnight funk with some full-on Chicago House sounds. Revelling in it’s early 90s heritage, BMD’s mix is a total white gloves moment. Also holding reMixes from Phunktastike and Tom Eales, this reMix package is definitely worth checking out.

[Audio] French Horn Rebellion reMixed by Blende

french-horn-rebellion

UK based Nu-Disco producer Blende has applied his skills to French Horn Rebellion’s current single, Dancing Out, a track that’s still getting some play around here in it’s own right, but Blende takes the retro synth vibe and turns it up to 11 in this storming new version of the tune.

Blende works a truck load of epic SynthWave into his Nu-Disco framework right here, resulting in a truly soaring mix. Taking Jody Watley & Young Empires vocal track and keeping it largely intact, Blende gives them a whole new level of cinematic synths and twisting Funk hooks. This is one massive mix, be prepared for you head to be full of winding synth riffs and retro stabs..

The Other Tribe

Earlier this month we presented you with Your Kisses, the exclusive pre-order track that accompanies Bristolian Tropical/House/Indie-Electro mashup crew The Other Tribe’s forthcoming new single, My Girl. Now here’s the headlining tune itself, released later this summer it;s set to take the tail end of the festival season by storm.

Encompassing The Other Tribe’s now familiar melting pot of House beats, tribal purcussion, Tropical vibes and sunshine optimism, My Girl is another summer stormer from this five piece. Working just as well as a Deep House track headed straight for the dancefloor as it does an Indie anthem, commanding a euphoric sing-a-log crowd experience, the new single combines woody House basslines with burbling synths and a soaring vocal. Truly one of the finest Indie-Electro outfits in the UK right now.

[Audio] Daze’s new EP

Daze

You may remember us mentioning the (then) forthcoming EP from French Turbofunk master Daze, titled at the time Solar. Well, the EP is finally out this week, having developed some periods and S.OL.A.R. now stands for Sound Of Love Around Radios and the EP holds five tracks of top quality dirty synth Funk and floor shaking French Disco grooves.

S.O.L.A.R., the lead track, is a massive vocoder Funk monster. Setting the tone for the robotic dream vocals and the buzzing retro synths that permeate the whole EP. S.O.L.A.R. mixes up a little twisted 70s Funk, rolling Disco and French-Touch into a impressive and full tune that immediately grabs hold of you and coerces you to, at the very least, get a good head nod going. Something On Your Mind continues the journey into soulful vocoding and vintage electronic grooves. A little more R&B in it’s approach, Something On Your Mind takes that heartfelt swing and gives it a retro-future makeover. Like a funky robot’s lament. After the baroque French Electro of Childhood Dreams comes Daze’s the previous single, Thinking About You. This track is the epicentre of the EP, funky as hell and built upon jazzy synths, a Disco beat and soaring vocoded vocals, it delivers everything you want from Robo Disco in a surprisingly poppy package. The S.O.L.A.R. EP is  definitely recommended if you’re looking for a collection of smooth synthetic soulful sounds.

[Audio] 2CV’s début single

2CV

France’s On The Fruit Records have snapped up the début release from ‘not French’ Paris residents 2CV. Spun out of the club they ran of the same name Guido le Saint & Jus de Veau easily shifted their focus to producing what the like to call “living room Disco”, which we guess means intimate and funky electronic music. Let’s take a look.

The release is a double A-Side single, Bacon and Afrique are both sample heave examples of innovative Nu-Disco. Not tired old 70s grooves and over side-changing here, there’s something a little more interesting going on. Bacon takes it’s inspiration from a rugged guitar sample and builds a Electro Disco framework around that out of warm synth bass, and bright, springy leads. All these elements coalesce to form a floorfiller with a unique enough sound to stand out from the crowd. It’s flipside, well, you might want to be sitting down for this…it’s flipside samples one of the greatest songs of all time, Toto’s Africa. We always say, when you;re tired of Africa, you’re tired of life. Afrique doesn’t go crazy with the Toto sampling, just takeing the bares of hook and using it to underpin a Cosmic track that flirts with the suggestion of old school Rave and Acid House amongst a Spacey, sometimes gritty, but ultimately comfortable dance track that really is designed for a peak-time-lost-in-dance situation.

[Audio] Alex Metric & Jacques Lu Cont’s ‘Safe With You’

Alex Metric

Last month we introduced you to the Dub Mix of Alex Metric‘s team-up with Jacques Lu Cont’s Safe With You. It’s was surprisingly amazing, but all we could have asked for is a bit more in the vocal department from Niki & The Dove‘s Malin, and more of a Pop structure. Well, we didn’t have to wait long as this past weekend Pete Tong premièred the full vocal version of the track, grab yourself a listen.

Possibly one of the Pop songs of the year, Metric and Lu Cont don’t hold back the big builds and uplifting hook, weaving them effortlessly with hard hitting dancefloor beats and gruff basslines. Malin’s vocals soar over the track and really make the track what it is, the chorus is so insanely hands-in-the-air that not even shoving your hands deep in your pockets will prevent the inevitable. Expect to hear this a lot over the summer, and your life will be enriched for it. Bring Pop and Dance together perfectly.

[Audio] ATTAR!’s ‘The Fool’

ATTAR!

The Fool is the new single from Belgian synthetic Disco maestro ATTAR!. Released later in the month on Eskimo Recordings, The Fool is actually the début solo release from ATTAR!, ex-one half of Mustang, despite the fact that it seems otherwise. ATTAR! has been entertaining us with tracks, reMixes and mixtapes for months now, his last original release being the free Folivora Parade.

Featuring vocals from Cherry, The Fool walks the line between slowed down robotic Disco and Italo in order to deliver a steady tune that’s a brooding as it is funky. With a slightly Killer-esque bassline, heavy on the synths, the track serves up an almost 80s SynthPop feel that is just faintly brushed with a Disco groove to make it dancefloor palatable. Possibly the best of both worlds. The B-side, Colibri, ups the tempo somewhat for a jackin’ House jam that hit’s just the right floorfilling notes. The single comes equipped with a reMix from Pete Oak, definitely worth checking out.

[Audio] Mitch Murder’s ‘Thanks For Playing’

DARYL-CTIT-KEYART

Here to brighten up your day, it’s the latest tune from SynthWave master Mitch Murder. Mitch continues to steadily crank out some of the highest quality retro sounds in the world. Often imitated, never duplicated, Mitch Murder’s works capture the 80s soundtrack feel like no-one else. Rather than latching onto a couple of clichéd tropes of what people imagine soundtracks were like in the 80s, Mitch  seeps himself in a real love of 80s Soundtrack music and as a result his pieces sound utterly authentic.

Thanks For Playing mixes homages to optimistic 80s Movies and very late 80s/early 90s 8-bit game console tunes. Like a breezy Sega game soundtrack composed by Vince DiCola, Thanks For Playing rolls along on forward pushing digital bassline, definitely the kind of driving force that keeps you playing. Replete with all the little infectious melodies that stick in your head to keep you coming back for more, Mitch has cracked the period game accompaniment formula and once again proven why he is at the top of his game/
