[MP3] Mitch Murder’s ‘The Touch’ reMixed by Lifelike

Mitch Murder

Well, it looks like the rest of the world is catching up to what we’ve been trying to tell them for the last four years; Sweden’s SynthWave king Mitch Murder is one of the greatest musicians recording today, and now maybe he’s on his way to getting the recognition he deserves courtesy of Diplo’s Mad Decent label and their Jeffree’s sub-imprint. Mr. Murder’s forthcoming single for them is titled The Touch, a gloriously 80s tunes as only Johan does best. The single package comes loaded with top quality mixes from the likes of Nite Sprite and Lifelike, here we present the version from French Touch legend Lifelike.

Life like gets lots to work with here, the original has a driving arpeggio pattern and swathes of lush chords, so Lifelike takes that to the max, amping the arps into dancefloor overdrive. Leading more toward the originals SynthWave sound that Lifelike’s usual Disco influenced groove, here he plays with the Italo synths, crating a SynthWave/French Touch hybrid that’s both floorfilling and retro styled. We’re even treated to some soaring solo that slot effortlessly into the sparse arrangement. Although no stranger to the SynthWave scene, this is Lifelike’s furthest journey in that direction, it suits him.

Mitch Murder’s The Touch is released 25th July.

[Audio] Hemingway’s ‘Far Gone’

Hemingway

Far Gone is Torontonian Nu-Disco producer Hemingway’s follow up to his amazing Ace Neptune single of earlier this year. Once again supplied by Brilliantine, Far Gone sees James Harris sliding into slightly Housier, more intricate territory without loosing any of his warm Funk.

Loaded with Dramatic vintage synth stabs and warbles, Far Gone treads unusual ground with an almost Techno complexity to it’s rhythms set amongst inspirational Cosmic Disco soundscapes. The rhythm’s shuffle and the deep vocal snatches lend the track a Chicago groove, making the track a veritable Frankenstein’s monster of dancefloor vibes. It’s all wrapped up in a relaxed Disco blanket, perfect for lazy summer evenings.

[MP3] Cavaliers of Fun’s ‘Valley Of Dreams’

valley_of_dreams_hr

It’s been a while. This is Dreamwaver Cavaliers Of Fun’s first proper single of the year, and right slap-bang in the middle of a heatwave is the prefect time to unleash such laid-back summery bliss.Valley Of Dreams delivers everything you’d want from a hazy beach tune. Nostalgic, funky, slightly ethereal and all covered in island vibes. All brought to you by ‘the ever-awesome Holographic People’.

Pouring Tropical Disco and Dreamwave into a mixing bowl Cavaliers Of Fun cooks up only the finest of both. It’s the kind of song we all wigged out to in the summer of 2010, but updated with slick Disco licks and Tropical purcussion. A solid Disco beat is complimented by hazy, heavily effected guitars and a bouncy synth bass. As Ricco Vitali presents his passionate croon, thick synths create an irresistible sunkissed mood. The Single is loaded with reMixes too, Freak You strips the beach vibe from the tune and morphs it into a Technoid stormer with 90s House overtones. Riddled with noisy effects and a heavy Rave leads and rolling snare fills, this one’ll have you grinning and dancing. Saint Pauli uplifts the single with a big room mix where they take everything big. Big lead stabs, Big Disco snyths and a Big stomping beat. Fellow Holographic Peopl-er Shelby Grey’s Bonus Beats Dub is pretty special too, possible the EP’s highlight, a proper 12” extended mix that strips the original to it’s synth basics and layers orchestral hits, robo synths and a rocking B-Boy beat. We’d love to hear this one with the vocals. These tunes sit alongside a luscious Poolside Disco mix from Poindexter on a release that is, surprisingly, free to download. There’s need to be no discussion, download this right now.

[MP3] Patrick Baker’s ‘Control’

patrick-baker_thumb_thumb

Just when you thought you had a rest, the man Patrick Baker is back, and he’s more New Jack Swing than ever. His new single, Control, is proof (if you needed it) that Baker has now fully transitioned from 80s SynthWave superstar to 90s Swingbeat crooner. And it’s a transition we welcome, especially during the summer, it sets Patrick apart from the pack and gives him a uniqueness. Also, he’s very very good at it.

Control is the prefect example of that. Laid back summery R&B grooves with a 90s Swing (sorry, it;s really hard to write about it without saying ‘swing’ 100 times) Control just makes you want to slip the shades on and ride around in an open to jeep, possible in a very over saturated world, wearing a gold chain. Yeah, you know what I mean. Both from a production and a vocal point of view, Patrick Baker is killing it right now.

[MP3] Box Of Wolves reMixes Hghclr’s ‘Ohio’

Hghclr

Canadian Chillwaver Box Of Wolves just can’t leave those Swedes alone, can he? Following his reMix of Swedish spacey electronic artist AfterParty’s Lonely Reggae, he’s turned in the sumptuous version of Stockholm based ElectroPop newcomers Hghclr’s track Ohio, from their Waves EP.

This one is all about capturing the emotion of the song with airy synths and a dusting of delay. Pinned down with a deceptively funky bassline, the track organically breathes floaty lead lines and sparking keys into a musical dream that has pin-sharp clarity. Add to the the originals ethereal lament and you’ve got a dreamy, and a touch nostalgic, sunset anthem.

[MP3] Zimmer reMixes Rod Stewart’s ‘Da’ Ya’ Think I’m Sexy?’

Rod-Stewart

Let’s send you into your weekend with something a little funky and a little fun. One of out favourite French producers, Zimmer, the master of horizontal Disco, has seen fit to deliver a stomping rework of Rod Stewart’s 1978 cheesefest Da’ Ya’ Think I’m Sexy?.

Not to sure what to say about this really, you’ll either love it or hate it. Zimmer whips up a pumping bassline and a killer beat to add to this monster. A sweet amount of Cosmic Disco synth warbling is along for the ride too, but your opinion of this track will still rest on whether you are amused by the tracks instantly recognisable riff and Stewart’s cringe-worthy vocals, or depressed by them. We definitely fall into the amused camp, put a smile of your face this weekend.

[MP3] Holmes Price’s ‘Work It Out’

Holmes Price

This is one that kept us going yesterday. It’s the new tune from Bath based producer Holmes Price, free to download and full of summer goodness. Titled Work It Out, the track is the prefect blend of sunshine breeziness and dark club mesmerism and definitely singles out Price, who’s delivered a pretty amazing string of reMixes recently, as one of the UK’s rising House stars.

Work It Out rides a big ol’ Chicago groove but feels decidedly British. Taking as much from the London club scene, and indeed a splash of LA Topical vibes too, as it does from Chicago warehouses, Work It Out, bring the best of everything to the table. Price weaves a dancefloor destroying tapestry of deep House beats and organ, airy Island melodies and swirling beach Disco sweeps with a distinctly UK use of vocal snatches. Work It Out will be the soundtrack to our weekend, and it should be yours too.

[MP3] Daft Punk reMixed by a whole bunch of peeps

daft-punk

So, we’ve been a little weary of posting any of the myriad reMixes of tracks from Daft Punk’s awesome new album Random Access Memories. There’s a squillion of them out there, every producer and his dog wants in on the action, to ride the tailcoats of hype, and they run the gauntlet from ‘better than the original’ to ‘OGM just stop trying to be a musician right now’. ‘Cos there’s so many posting about them would be like opening floodgates we really haven’t got time for.

But this morning, Cassette Club’s Ben Macklin sent us his take on Doin’ It Right, it’s very good, and we got the itch to post it. So we though ‘let’s just get this done’ and get out there a round-up of what some of the reMixes that have been rockin’ us. This is the cream of the crop ladies and gentlemen. Brought to you in association with Reflex, Wolf Saga, Tommy, Shit Hot SoundSystem, Lifelike, Simøne and Roman Kouder.
