[MP3] Jordan F remixes Conics

Here’s the latest reMix from out good buddy Jordan F. Jordan has always been one of the leading lights of the SynthWave scene, adding an added musicality and attention to detail into the genre, but his recent efforts have seen him breaking out of the box, trying new things and folding a diverse range of influenced into his music. It’s exciting to listen to. This new one is a remix for Sydney based Indie-Electro outfit Conics and the lead track of their new EP, due out this month.

Jordan takes a breezy approach to the tune here, a hazy summertime soundtrack that seems to wash you clean of all your troubles. A swirling mist of spacious synths and snatches of Tropical guitar with a foundation built on a subtle, but driving Italo bassline. This one is purely for poolside relaxing and sunset reflections. Jordan continues to be to one to keep an eye on. Enjoy.

[Audio] ]Adeyhawke’s ‘Kodachrome Sundae’

We’re so glad that Irish synthetic Disco don Adeyhawke is back in the game. After his return to our radar in March with Storm Runner we’re pleases to see another new tune unleashed this week. The awesomely titled Kodachrome Sundae is part of his forthcoming EP release on Girlfriend Records alongside the previously heard Storm Runner and Looker.

I think Kodachrome Sundae is our favourite of Adeyhawke’s new track so far. A complex and funky synthesizer workout that is just as compelling for your ears as it is for your feet. Interlocking layers of punchy retro synths all slot in together to make the whole arrangement work, each tiny element having an important place in the whole. This really is a track greater than the sum of it’s parts, a nostalgic sounding, electronic Disco symphony that sees Adeyhawke skilfully conducting an orchestra of digital goodness. The bassline alone is enough to make you jump out of your seat. Check it out.

[Audio] Com Truise reMixes Charli XCX

We always love it so much when two of our favourite artists, and one who we though would never be working together, end up releasing something. It’s gotta be said, left-field ElectroPop princess Charli XCX seriously knows how to pick her reMixers, Goldroom, Lindstrøm, St. Lucia now dark futurist master Com Truise, who lends his Terminator synth work to Charli’s current single, What I Like, from her pretty awesome début album True Romance.

Truise applies his retro Sci-Fi synths to What I Like, completely flipping the mood of the track until it reeks of dystopian romance. Swirling BladeRunner synths and vintage drum machine beats rise and fall amongst soaring leads and Charli’s whimsical vocal. Com Truise’s music has a certain seriousness to it, which counterpoints the XCX flippantness to create something entirely new. Great beats, great synths, great vocals. Great reMix.

[Audio] Sally Shapiro’s reMix album (with Mitch Murder, Little Boots, Lovelock & Nite Jewel)

After the overwhelming success of Swedish ElectroPop duo Sally Shapiro’s third album, Somewhere Else, and the preceding single, the Electric Youth featuring Starman we were eager for more, but we didn’t expect something this hot. Just released is Elsewhere, a reMix companion for Somewhere Else who line-up is a variable whos-who is the cream of ElectroPop talent. It’s a killer meeting of minds that features the likes of Dan Lissvik, Young Galaxy, Lost Years and The Field, but right now we are going to take a look at some of our highlights.

First up, the undeniable king of SynthWave, Mr. Mitch Murder, graces the album with his presence. Reworking All My Life, Mitch delivers on his particular brand or rich, emotional, synthesized soundtrack work beautifully here. The deep, twanging, digital bass and invigorating electronic pulse play nicely against the warm tones to create something head-nodding brilliant. It’s prefect for Sally’s vocals too, the interaction between the chorus vocals and the bass is just amazing. If Mitch if the electronic music king, then our girl Little Boots is the queen. Taking on the brilliantly titled This City’s Local Italo Disco DJ Has A Crush On Me, Boots whips up some mirrorball sheen with a surprisingly gritty hook. Mixing up House and Nu-Disco elements to classy effect, Boots turns-in a slo-mo, soft focus, dancefloor dream. One of the most talented men in retro electronica, Steve Moore, here in his Lovelock guise turns his attention to I Dream With an Angel Tonight, injecting it with smooth, laid back, vintage Disco and Italo sounds with a cinematic feel and a slight mysterious, Sci-Fi vibe. LA synthesizer Funk queen Nite Jewel bring to the table a typically atmospheric and left-field slice of electronics in her rendition of Sundown, loaded with compelling basses and swirling soundscapes turning Sally Shapiro from twee ElectroPop into brooding, but groove, Cold Wave. This is definitely a recommended release, with a stellar line-up and a wide variety of styles, there really is something for everyone.

Here’s the new single from Germany’s Final DJs. Having had their recent single, Moonshine, dropped to critical acclaim the duo have decided to unleash this one on the world for free. Flash In The Night rocks big Italo vibes whist it’s B-side, Los Angeles takes a trip on a smoother, more soulful, sound.

Flash In The Night is pure robo-Disco. Centred around a machine code vocoded vocal, the track mixes up Kraftwerk flavours with big nostalgic synth sounds and an 80s European dancefloor vibe. Around the mid-point, the track really up’s it’s epicness game with extra levels of harmonic vocoding and and a push in energy. The flip-side, Los Angeles, brings the laid back atmosphere, with lazy slap bass and a wind swept sax solo. In his second reMix for LA ElectroPoppers Freedom Fry, Brooklyn based SynthWave Funkster, and one of the best kept secrets in the world, Starcadian delivers more of his sweeping emotional synths and dirty Disco grooves. Just a quick search to your right will reveal a whole host of storming tracks from Starcadian, we’ve been eager for new material for a while now, and with the knowledge of a new EP in the pipeline this mix’ll have to tide us over until then.

Starcadian drops it big style with this one. Turning his raw synth Disco sound into something fit for the big room, he delivers layers and layers of thick synths and sparking melodies that perfectly compliment the Freedom Fry vocal track. Working some seriously powerful, emotive, synth lines and huge aspirational leads, Starcadian brings his A-game with a reMix worthy of being your summer anthem. [Audio] Tesla Boy’s ‘The Universe Made Of Darkness’ (+ new single featuring Tyson)

Russian ElectroPoppers Tesla Boy’s début album, Modern Thrills, is one of our favourite albums of all time. Back in 2009 the totally nail everything that was so good about the burgeoning Dreamwave and post-Dreamwave Nu-Disco scenes and wrapped all that smooth LA funk and 80s soundtrack epicness with Pop sensibilities and incredibly catchy songs. Their sophomore full length release, The Universe Made Of Darkness, out this week, has been on rotation here for the past couple of weeks after a first few nervous listens. This album has so much to live up to, so many expectations, we just didn’t know if it would deliver.

It does. In abundance. Tesla Boy’s sound had only matured on this release, there’s a greater width of influences and more attention to detail. The Russian’s have managed to release an album that sounds quite a bit different to their premier record, but still unmistakably Tesla Boy. The album still retains the cool Disco vibe, the epic songs, but has a larger scope, and a bigger sound. Kicking of with Dream Machine, a smooth piece of arena SynthPop that weaves a proggy vibe into it’s 80s LA funk, the album soon launces into Tesla Boy’s most recent single, the energetic, anthemic, M.C.H.T.E. before bringing the groove right back on Invisible. Invisible is a laid back, but powerful, track that mixes a poolside feel with huge grinding synths and is indicative of Tesla Boy retaining their cool boogie, but making it so much more expansive. Up next is Broken Doll, which features the awesome Tyson. The perfect cool, dirty Disco tune that makes a brilliant platform for Tesla Boy’s Anton, and Tyson, two ElectroPop heavyweights to duet. Wicked Disco licks and slab bass rub shoulders with gritty synths and a relentless mid-tempo pounding. Broken Doll will be the bands next single. Previous single Split is up next, with a little old school Tesla Boy nostalgia, as with another (quite) old single Fantasy that follows. Saturn is the first of a couple of musical interludes, a beautiful and haunting 80s soundtrack-esque piece with a slight oriental feel and a surprising highlight of The Universe Made Of Darkness. Undetected is a bass heavy Nu-Disco bouncer that blends a little 80s UK Pop into the thick, warbling slo-mo funk that is complimented by the shimmering keys and hazy 80s Soul of Start. After the abstract bass House interlude of Something Deep, we are hit with Paraffin, which features Fritz from Azari & III. Paraffin is full on RoboPop Disco, an energetic, kinetic, but ultimately slick meeting of Chicago House and Dreamwave where everyone’s a winner. Which leaves the album to play out on the full-on early 90s DancePop of the single 1991. So there it is. The Universe Made Of Darkness was one of, if not the, most anticipated album of the years for us, and we are so relieved to say, it’s awesome.

[Video] Touch Sensitive’s ‘Pizza Guy’

Australian producer Touch Sensitive’s Pizza Guy has been making some serious waves in Nu-Disco circles this past month, out now on Future Classic the track is a euphoric slice of synthesizer boogie.

Adding fuel to the fire is the brand new video. Directed by Entropico, the clip features cameos from Van She, Flume, Jagwar Ma and Chet Faker, with the star turn of the pizza guy performed by Touch Sensitive himself.

[Audio] Jesse Oliver’s ‘Purified’ EP

Here’s something a bit special from Finnish artist Jesse Oliver of, one of our favourite production duos, Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver, fame. Just released on On The Fruit Records is his solo Purified EP. This is a release that’s a little more personal, a little more experimental in it’s approach, and a little more conceptual that what we might expect from this guy, but the results speak for themselves.

The three tracks on the Purified EP haven’t been near a computer in their production. this is all analog or hardware synths, hardware sequenced and recorded to tape these tracks haven;t even been through modern mastering techniques. This is something Jesse has been wanting to try for a long time now and the results are meticulously crafted little gems. The EP kicks off with Red Door, a driving slice of Italo with a tiny Balearic sunrise flavour. Quite SynthWave in it’s angle, all urgent arpeggios and big tom rolls, yet also folding in Oliver’s big room know-how, 2211 mixes up dark future synths and B-boy beats to create a growling synth backing for some seriously nostalgic 80s hook and chimes to dance around the track. With a lush breakdown and and emotional resonance, this might just be the EP’s highlight. Which leaves the title track, a cosmic synth epic that 50% night drive and 50% galactic voyage that leaves you wanting more. Could these tracks have done with a little mastering. Possibly, but that doesn’t really detract for a collection of badass synthesizer workouts. How they’d sound in a club we can’t comment on, but they sounded pretty good in our speakers.

[Audio] Le Matos & Electric Youth

Adding to their currently busy release schedule, the awesome Girlfriend Records have just dropped the new album from Montréal based power synth producers Le Matos. Having been released in the past twenty-four hours we haven’t really had time to sit down with it yet, but one of the eye catching tracks on the LP is Light Again, featruing a bit of fellow Canadian ElectroPoppers Electric Youth.

Light Again is pretty classic sounding ElectroPop, with a rounded Dreamwave flavour. Built up of storming dancefloor beats and euphoric synths. A driving arpeggiated bassline pins the track down and gives it it’s compelling energy, while starlight leads twinkle and play around the track. Electric Youth’s Bronwyn’s vocals sound as sweet as ever as they cry out over Le Matos’ pumping tune. All-in-all a good omen for the rest of the album.
