Cosmic Sand & Starcadian & TobTok

Australian Electro heads Trashbags are bringing, for their latest release, a storming new, and free, EP from Portuguese producer Cosmic Sand. The Route 375 EP is a huge work of driving Electro. Post-Kavinsky with a slightly baroque feel, the three original tunes Route 375, Lost In Nevada and Wreckage of 2085 are powerful synth pieces that meld chainsaw Electro with a cinematic rush.

reMixes come from electronic rumors fave Starcadian and Swedish Nu-Disco guru TobTok. Starcadian’s take on Lost In Nevada is typically majestic slab of slap-bassed, dirty synth Disco. Combining gritty Disco grooves with soaring cosmic synths, Starcadian takes the track into deep space for some seriously futuristic Boogie. The EP’s title track is handled by TobTok, who brings a smooth, laid back Disco sound to the release. sanding off the rough and ready edges of the original, TobTok’s version is all about late summer nights and mirrorballed dancefloors. this whole EP is pretty essential, especially at that price point, you have no excuse.

Panda People’s ‘Fake Dreams’

German Indie-Disco outfit Panda People are currently in the process of recording their début album, due out next year. They’ve dropped a taste of what’s to come in the form of Fake Dreams and it’s accompanying video.

It’s a big, breezy, Indie-Electro anthem that tend to get under your skin with it’s infectious chorus and lead line with a nicely shot clip of Panda People in action.

Lindstrøm’s ‘Smalhans’

Contrary to most of the world, it seem, I quite enjoyed Norwegian synth botherer Lindstrøm’s Six Cups Of Rebel. His last album from earlier this year was pretty crazy, but I thought in a good way. An ecclectic, funky, Disco cacophony that more often than not, worked. Apart from when it went all freeform jazz, then it was just hilarious. Anyway, the man is back with another new album, and Smalhans is kinda’ more what people were expecting. Epic Scandinavian space Disco.

Smalhans is 50% Moroder 50% Tundra. It’s got the Norwegian quirk that against all odds always comes across in music (just ask Röyksopp, Prins Thomas and Todd Terje), it feels like a music sense of humour, or more like a sense of playfulness mixed in with sparking cosmic sounds and an Italo Disco groove. The album steps up wit the previously released Rà-Àkõ-St, which is snowy Funk at it’s finest. Like a part in an ice field, it’s both cold and mysterious and warm and inviting at the same time. Lāmm-Ęl-Āār is a popping Electronic beat, layered with retro synth work, and an enigmatic hook, but manages to pull of euphoric at the same time. The Spy Thriller riff in Lāmm-Ęl-Āār completely draws you in, and it;s attention to detail like that the dominates this album. Ęg-Gęd-Ōsis, released with Rà-Àkõ-St, is at first glace a simplistically hypnotic Disco-House track, but further listens revel complex deeper layers. Other than Rà-Àkõ-St, for us the albums highlight is Fāār-I-Kāāl, a building, optimistic four minutes of intertwining synth melodies that reminds us more than a little of the aforementioned Röyksopp. Lindstrøm’s grasp of melody, both here and throughout Smalhans is really impressive, his playing of groove of lead works in every tune to create something bigger than either. those who were disappointed with Six Cups Of Rebel will have found the album you were looking for with Samlhans, those who liked Six Cups…, you’ll love this even more. Classic sounding synthesizer Disco with a Scandinavian twist, what more could you ask for?

Bandit’s ‘Timocracy’ EP

Although Timocracy is French producer Bandit’s début EP, the House wonder has quite a history of acclaim. Appearing in a Tusgi Sampler in 2008 alongside being selected by Ed Banger head honcho Busy P for his Trax Magazine French Touch 3.0 compilation where he described Bandit’s music as an expression of “Emotion and Victory”.

With a similar endgame to Monsieur Adi, Bandit’s goal is to marry classical and dance music. A feat that’s a tall order, sure you can just arpeggiate a MIDIfile of a classical song and you’ve got yourself a Trance hit, but to really orchestrate something rich and full of depth and make it a floor filler too is something reserved of the more musically gifted of producers. For the most part Bandit pulls it off, with style. The EP’s opener, Quattuor, shows how he can bring both a complex musicality and a storming peak-time tune to the table and presents a harder companion to the track that follows it, Hills. A piano lead track that combines a multitude of melodic elements into one intricate dance track. Once the EP has hit it’s stride it delivers tune after tune of rousing hands-in-the-air floorfillers that prize musical talent and songwriting skill over cheap dance music tricks. The EP’s finale, Danze, is a truly euphoric outro, life the EP to it;s climax in loud, majestic style.

Sohight & Cheevy’s ‘Travel Anthem’

Hot on the heels of his recent On The Fruit Records release, Fonk, Russian Disco don Sohight is back together with his sometimes partner Cheevy for a swift follow-up. Also destined for On the Fruit next month, it’s Travel Anthem.

Travel Anthem brings Cheevy vocals back to the funk. And Sohight really does keep it funky this time. Big, squelchy Moog basses work telepathically in tandem with some vintage synth stabs to create the prefect storm of retro Boogie and Disco. Add to this Cheevy’s uplifting vocal and you’ve got something completely irresistible. Moullinex provides a reMix for the single too, can’t wait!

Chromeo Remixed by RAC

The RAC has quite a history behind it, which is why it seems odd that they are only now getting round to releasing a proper retrospective compilation, but that’s the facts. Chapter One is released 6th November and features this reMix by RAC’s André Allen Anjos of Chromeo’s classic Bonafied Lovin’.

Bonafied Lovin’ is one of our favourite Chrome tracks, so it’s with a critical ear that we hit play on this one. RAC do a fair enough job with the track. It’s a pretty standard synthy Disco reMix, but a thoroughly accomplished one. With a subtly Topical flavour and layers of warm synths RAC have done the track justice. It’s not going to wow anyone, but it’s perfect for lazy summer nights.

Chrome Canyon editing John Carpenter

Chrome Canyon, one of Brooklyn’s finest purveyors of vintage synth Boogie, has taken it upon himself to spice up your Halloween with a funky little re-edit of legendary master of horror, and synthesizer wizard John Carpenter’s theme from his 1978 slash-fest Halloween.

Carpenter is the undisputed king of horror synth. Halloween, Escape From New York, Assault On Precinct 13, all synth classics, with Halloween obviously being the most creepified. So what can you do with that instantly recognisable, flesh-crawling piano line and chords of dread? Well, Chrome Canyon musters up all his electronic trickery to drop a shuffling beat and cuts the track up into dancefloor sized chunks. Building and building a robotic tension until the big Disco synths drop for the finale and the track goes manic, or should that be maniac?

Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver’s new EP

We’ve been rocking Ready To Go, the new single from our Finnish faves Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver, round these parts for a few weeks now, just waiting for the time when we could post a track or two. We’ll now the single is out that time has come as the two original tunes and the storming reMix from Belgian Disco tinged House master A.N.D.Y. and fellow Belgian DJ Vicente are available for your listening pleasure.

And a pleasure it is too. Ready To Go is as massive a tune as we’d expect from these two. Mixing up a little Disco, a little big room House and a little stomping Electro, Lamar & Oliver deliver a total crowd-pleaser with anthemic robo vocals. There’s just no way this tune wouldn’t whip up a dancefloor into a frenzy. The B-side, Sins & Secrets, is a more dreamy affair. Adding a piano led Tropical vibe and a touch of Indie to their already bursting mix Lamar & Oliver show a different side to their work. Sins & Secrets’ Indie structure make it the perfect compliment to the banging lead track. After the reMix brings the buzzsaw riffs and pounding drums for the tracks intro, A.N.D.Y. & Vicente soon slip into a relentless House groove with a spiky, almost EBM bassline, and a rousing organ lead line. Popping electro hooks, just the right amount of vocals, nicely twisted, and bringing those grinding synths back in for the build, all perfectly executed in this tune. And when things kick back in after the breakdown, it’s got such punch. that organ gives the track a Halloween feel too, maybe, just sayin’.

Punks Jump Up X Martin Dubka X Saint Saviour X Moonlight Matters

Feels Good, the single resulting from the team up between London noiseniks Punks Jump Up and Martin Dubka, with Saint Saviour, is looking like it;s going to one of the single of they year. We’re certainly loving the entire package, it;s one of a few releases that Kitsuné Music have dropped this year that have knocked it out of the park. Kitsuné have had a confusing couple of years after the resurgence of Electro around 2006-2009 dies down, but this year has seen them totally return to form.

You’ll have to wait to hear the single itself, but for right now get your ears round this dub from Moonlight Matters. Returning the favour after Punks Jump Up reMixed his mind-blowing Come For Me, Moonlight Matters lays down six minutes of raw funk. With an infuriatingly hypnotic lead line and some gritty Korg Acid going on in the background, this is a tune that absolutely demands you dance. No questions asked. With until you hear the original, and the MiGHty mOUse reMix, Kitsuné have done their legacy proud with this one.
