[MP3] M83 reMixed by Freak You

M83

Brining some old school Bronx beats to your ears right now is French producer and On The Fruit Records godfather Freak You with his officially sanctioned reMix of French Electro-Indie superstar M83’s single Steve McQueen.

Kicking off like an early 80s right on the New York subway, Freak You drops guitar stabs amidst B-boy beats and swirling vocals, easing you into the groove with Sci-Fi synths and rapid clap rolls. Bringing to mind the best experimental period of Electro’s history, Freak Yuo works the Breakin; vibe until he;s ready to get all Juan Aitinks on out asses with a solid House beat and Chicago bassline. This hybrid of Chicago House and New York Electro is exactly the same kind of thing Aitkins was doing with Cybotron, and creating Techno. Freak You brings a similar vibe whilst keeping it soulful.

[Video] Avec Sans’ ‘Hold On’

Avec Sans Hold On YouTube

Earlier last week we introduced you to the new single, Hold On, from one of our favourite acts at the moment, London ElectroPop duo Avec Sans. A big, proper, rush of a Pop song.

Here’s the video that was released the same day, but we didn’t get round to posting it because last week was hell. Directed by Sing J Lee the clip is a nice mixture of stark colours and geometric shapes, showing the band performing, but retaining a little of their mystery.

Avec Sans’ Hold On is our now featuring reMixes from Avec Sans and VS//YOUTHCLUB.

[MP3] Avec Sans’ ‘Hold On’

Avec Sans

Secretly bubbling away in the background, London’s Avec Sans are our next big ElectroPop hope. We’ve been following them with great interest over the past year and really feel that it;s time for them to hit the big time. Perhaps their new single, Hold On, not our 24 hours and already gaining critical acclaim, will be the track to do it.

Rubbing a little ChipTune vibe into their mixture, Avec Sans in equal measures grime up and smooth out their sound. The bitcrushed sounds add a little roughness to their Icy ElectroPop while the song itself, belted out in a passionate performance from Alice, is the cleanest Pop tune the duo have released to date. This combination of gritty electronics and shiny Pop is what’s going to make keeping an eye, or ear, on Avec Sans so exciting. Hold On delivers compelling beats, a swirl of biting synths and a chorus that’ll stick in your head all day. What more could you want?

[Audio] Alex Metric & Jacques Lu Cont’s ‘Safe With You’

Alex Metric

Last month we introduced you to the Dub Mix of Alex Metric‘s team-up with Jacques Lu Cont’s Safe With You. It’s was surprisingly amazing, but all we could have asked for is a bit more in the vocal department from Niki & The Dove‘s Malin, and more of a Pop structure. Well, we didn’t have to wait long as this past weekend Pete Tong premièred the full vocal version of the track, grab yourself a listen.

Possibly one of the Pop songs of the year, Metric and Lu Cont don’t hold back the big builds and uplifting hook, weaving them effortlessly with hard hitting dancefloor beats and gruff basslines. Malin’s vocals soar over the track and really make the track what it is, the chorus is so insanely hands-in-the-air that not even shoving your hands deep in your pockets will prevent the inevitable. Expect to hear this a lot over the summer, and your life will be enriched for it. Bring Pop and Dance together perfectly.

[Audio] Kavinsky reMixed by Surkin

kavinsky_thumb

It’s the second reMix to Kavinsky’s forthcoming Odd Look single. We introduced you to A-Trak’s reMix last week and next on the bill it’s fellow Frenchman Surkin. Surkin lends his deep French Electro sound to the originals haunting SynthWave resulting in a pounding slice of robotic emotion.

The chord progression of the original tune is one that is evocative and cinematic, and that plays nicely into Surkin’s hands as he delivers a bassy Electro-House floorfiller with enough raw beats to keep the kids happy and enough humanity to lift their spirits. We can see this one going down a treat at certain gatherings over the summer months. The EP is out soon, along with Kavinsky’s Dead Cruiser mobile game.

[MP3] Fire Flowerz’s new mini-album

Fire Flowerz

Italian dirty Disco duo Fire Flowerz have just brightened up your week with the simple generous act of dropping a brand new mini-album, for absolutely free! These guys have been on our radar for a while now dealing out a bunch of top notch reMixes and collaborations with the likes of NAPT and Birdee, and now with the release of Beats Per Minute we get to revel in a solid chunk of original work.

Beats Per Minute, their first substantial release, contains seven tracks of scandalously grimy Disco and red-raw Funk. The release eases you in with My Fire, a slick Nu-Disco tune with a poolside vibe made all the more apparent with some enchanting talkbox work. Followed by the walking heavy bassline and sample Disco of Kisses In Technicolor Don’t let these sultry tunes fool you though, this release gets more intense as it progresses. L’Amour brings a little hypnotic Italo flavour to the album with it;s big ebb-and-flow synths and evolving Disco bassline. After an Interlude, Sheets reins in the weighty Funk with a laid back, almost R&B sound for lazy summer days. Don’t get too comfortable though, Impeto In G Minor delivers the release’s energetic high point, a brilliantly executed, if a little too short, example of cut-up Disco and big beats. Beats Per Minute’s final track, I Can’t Stay is a bit of an anomaly, with it’s mid-90s Dance take on Disco, but one that weirdly works really well. Maybe Big Beat,  Disco grooves, and wailing solos are the next big thing? All-in-all, Fire Flowerz have dropped a blinder of a début, and at this price you can’t say no.

[Audio] Cinnamon Chasers’ new EP

Cinnamon Chasers

Long time readers of electronic rumors will know that hands-down one of our favourite producers is the enigmatic Cinnamon Chasers. Spanning Dreamwave, Nu-Disco, SynthWave, Italo and House, Cinnamon Chasers has spent the last five years putting out some of the most consistently impressive records in electronic music. Here is a man who effortlessly juggles emotion and groove to deliver track that both compel you to dance and give you goosebumps. He’s gearing up to release his new EP, Time.Body.Tears, next week and we can give you an sneaky listen to some of it right here.

Time.Body.Tears serves up five tracks, each of them so washed in retro synth Boogie that it’s hard to pick favourites. The EP kicks off with Flight, an undulating tune that rolls along on thick 80s synth bass and a digital sax hook straight out of Jermaine Stewart’s We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off. It’s totally infectious and if anything is going to draw you into the rest of the EP it’s Flight. Body is up next and brings the release a dose off moody dancefloor vibes. A deep slice of piano led House, Body is washed in a hint of mid-90s Orbital-esque euphoria in it’s punchy bass, vocal instrumentation and dubby piano that makes for a pleasingly nostalgic experience. Just in case Body got you too Chilled, it’s swiftly followed by the high-octane Electro-Italo-Cosmic-Rock of Tears. Tears produces the EP’s energetic mid-point rocking an almost perfect combination of Italo bass, breakin’ beats, rousing chords and just the tiniest hint of Ultravox’s Midge Ure. Time brings us, stylistically, back from the 80s to the 90s once more with a slice of classic sounding dance, once again hypnotising us with a big piano hook on this slo-House Jam. Proving the EP’s nod to Tropical Disco, Time has one foot on the beach, the other in distant galaxies. The EP closes on Friends, a massive emotional finale, mixing up Cinnamon Chasers’ resonant chords with a layer of gritty, dirty Disco-House, all chainsaw synths and twisted vocoding. Leaving you with a truck load of Funk, Friends is pure heavyweight French style Nu-Disco with an 80s Electro-Soul heart. Cinnamon Chasers haven’t let us down yet, continuing to be one of the best in the game. Naturally, this is a highly recommended release.
