Hot Hot Hawk’s ‘Rise and Down’ reMixes

Hot Hot Hawk

Wearerussians are bringing us the best of Russian synth and Disco once again with the new EP from Hot Hot Hawk. the track itself, Rise And Down featuring the vocals of Ksenia Popova, has been out a while now. We covered it back in August, but now Wearerussians have dropped a full reMix package, for free no less.

Rise And Down, is a piercing vocal Disco track that nicely merges hot Hot Hawks lush, vintage sound with Ksenia’s accented vocals. Adding a little Tropical vibe to Hot Hot Hawks usual output, Rise And Fall has got more than a couple of summer anthem qualities. Phalanxes Of Fingers beef up the ‘80’s Disco side of Rise And Fall’s equation with big synth stabs and a playful lead line whist ElectroPopper Voyager instil the track with a warehouse vibe and some nice early ‘90’s House tones. Moskva-Kassiopeya deliver a pumping Electro track for their version. Starting off gently, Moskva-Kassiopeya gradually build their reMix into a galactic dancefloor monster. The reMix package also comes with work from electronic producer Acid Harbour, and the whole thing is well worth picking up. Russia shows us how it;s done once again!

Touch Tone’s ‘Make Believe’

Touch Tone

It was May this year that saw the evolution of Andrew Verner from RoboPop commissioner Short Circuit into slick ElectroPop act Touch Tone. His début single, Home Away From Home, was something really special that had talented producers clamouring to remix it. Now the Touch Tone follow-up is here and sees Andrew teaming up with LexiconDon’s Alex Koons for an old school Binary jam.

Make Believe is more Housey then we would have expected, and a lot more Tropical than Home Away From Home, but those two elements, in Verner’s hands, come together to form some sort of blissful holiday ElectroPop monster. An uplifting beast with a kind of unspecific nostalgia, the 909 beat and digital bass have obvious early 90’s House references, but the warm Dreamwave sounds and Island Disco lead line blur the specifics of sound and Touch Tone delivers a smooth, comfortable slice of Pop House that become more infectious with each listen. Alex Koons lends his brand of LexiconDon heartfelt storytelling to the track, and it turns out to be the perfect match, especially in the asthenic chorus. We expect producers to be clamouring to reMix this one too.

Leitbur release free reMix EP

Leitbur

Released earlier this year, Think Of Tomorrow from LA act Leitbur is one of the standout SynthPop releases of the year. Catchy and atmospheric, mixing classic SynthPop with a cool LA funk Leitbur delivered a driving tune with a massive, memorable chorus. The track has had a few reMix treatments over the months, and now Leitbur has collected them all into one EP, that’s available for your listening pleasure, for free.

There’s a lot of the EP, seven different versions of Think Of Tomorrow that range from Ryan Alli’s Dubstep interpretation to UD & Jowin’s big room take. Our picks of the EP (and it’s hard to pick favourites here) would have to be Kool Bandits version, a soundclash of early ‘90’s House and DiscoPop with an infectious bassline and the vocals keeps pretty much intact, resulting in something that would be perfectly at home on MTV circe 1992. Fletch’s Live & Loud reMix injects the track with a raw synthesizer groove while KiAh serve up a Deep House track, loaded with moody, atmospheric synths and dreamlike melodies. Portugal’s MAU turn in a reMix that seamlessly combines vintage SnythPop with some kind of dancefloor vibe. Out of all the remixes , it’s MAU’s that takes the most advantage of that big chorus, layering it think with lush synth work. Think Of Tomorrow is a stunning song, and these reMixes expand the experience of it.

Shelby Grey Edits Patrizia Pellegrino

Patrizia Pellegrino

Spanish Dreamwaver Shelby Grey has taken time out from his usual productions to bring us this edit Patrizia Pellegrino’s 1982 Italo classic Musica Spaziale. Originally a double A-side with her hit Matta-Ta, it’s hard it imagine anything able to make the track more Italo, but Mr. Grey manages it with ease.

Kicking off with some nice filtering, you instantly notice that Shelby has actually slowed the track down a little, maybe that’s the right decision, dancefloors are a little smoother than the tracks early ‘80’s NRG origins. All the synths have been thickened up to, and there’s a nice build mid-way too. Brining the classic Euro SynthPop sound into a place where it sits well with contemporary, albeit retro, Disco, Shelby has created a mighty DJ tool here.

Cordova’s ‘Paradigm’ released!

Cordova

Well, this kinda’ slipped out without telling anyone. I sort of think the label missed a trick here. One of the best loved Dreamwave tracks of recent years, Cordova’s Paradigm, has finally got an official release, with a bunch of reMixes in tow too, where was the fanfares? Where was the spotlight? Where was any promotion at all? It’s a pity, as Paradigm is a killer track !

Even by the time it hit the internet mid-last year it was already a year old, now over twelve months later it’s out , and sounding fresher than ever. Cordova is the meeting of U-Tern (Vaughn Oliver, making massive waves this year as one half of Oliver themed double act Oliver) and his buddy AJK, with Roxy on vocals, and Paradigm is so good it made it into the top five in our twenty best songs of 2011 and in our post on the track we used the words “fucking awesome”.  It’s a massive slice of Dreamwave boogie with husky vocals and Sci-Fi vocoding. Nearly two years after it’s creation it hold up and kicks it’s contemporaries arses! And now there’s reMixes too! Broke One gets a look in with a shuffling House mix that mixes a Chicago vibe with an almost UK Garage feel, keeping it smooth. British DJ Fingerman whips up something a little more synth Disco with his mix, pacing choppy synths against Tropical percussion for a funky, airy, groove. All that’s left to say is how glad we are that this if finally out, and how bewildered we are that the label decided not to tell anyone about it.

Branded James reMixes Youngblood Hawke

YoungbloodHawke

We got sent the reMix of LA Indie bad Youngblood Hawke’s oft-reMixed We Come Running by American producer Branded James. We know next to nothing about Branded James, and that’s only a little bit less than we know about Youngblood Hawke, so if you don’t mind we’re just going to chat about the music for a bit.

For a producer out of the blue, this track is really good. Branded James nicely marries a Nu-Disco groove with lush Dreamwave synths and a warm retro feel. We’re really not that familiar with the Indie-Folk original, but these vocals work perfectly with James’ slick, optimistic, sound. Even the production is very solid. The mix is carried by some seriously airborne lead lines and punchy synth stabs, both having a nice nostalgic vibe to them that makes it feel like these vocals, that do have an anthemic quality to them, have always been part of this track.

Jordan F’s ‘Under The Sun’

jordan-f_thumb

Another new track from Australia’s reigning SynthWave heavyweight champion Jordan F hit the streets this weekend. Certain corners of the SynthWave scene are unfortunately getting a bit bogged down, as quantity over quality rules and tracks are released unmastered, or mastered by a mate, or unfinished, resulting in a barrage of tinny, mid-range, half hearted productions that are a danger of drowning the cream of the scene. Luckily, Jordan’s tracks, mastered or not, always rise to the top as he takes his time with productions, allowing his natural talent, both musically and in production, room to shine.

Under The Sun is a reflective synth track. In a timely way it feels like a farewell to the summer. Which is appropriate, coming a couple of months after Jordan’s last track Bikini Girls. A mid-tempo tune, full of rich and deep synth sounds and dreamy melodies. Nostalgic, without out being sad. Pensive, without being depressing. Jordan’s emotional electronic music waves goodbye to the partying months and looks forward to next year. While you;re here, check out this reMix of Jordan’s Aurora, by Italian SynthWave newcomer Vincenzo Salvia, who delivers some piercing lead work and a multi layered sound.

LexiconDon’s ‘City Lies’

lexicondon

We’ve Burned and wondered Where We Went, now we can get our third taste of Dreamwave original gangsters LexiconDon’s new album in the form of City Lies, their new single. We’ve seen a variety of new sounds in these previews of the album, as Alex stretches his musical wings, and City Lies adds some new flavour to the mix.

There’s a raw feel to the track. Machine beats, white noise snares and slight distortion on the vocals give LexiconDon’s laid back LA sound a new live, garage dimension. One of LexiconDon’s greatest strengths is Aex’s narrative in his songs. More than many other bands, you always get a real sense of what he’s singing about, capturing the mood and imparting it to the listener perfectly. This strength shines through in City Lies, both musically and lyrically as Alex wears his heart on his sleeve, lamenting the complications of relationships set to a late night urban soundtrack.

Worship’s ‘Forever Orion’

worship

Even though the presses are still warm on Swiss Dreamwave master Worship’s new release, a collection of reMixes from his Horizon EP, he’s already prepping his next single. A funky little number called Forever Orion, to be released in a few weeks.

Forever Orion eases you into it’s groove with some sweet synth Disco. Bringing a slight Tropical flavour to Worship’s work, the first two minutes of Forever Orion have a Sci-Fi ‘70’s Disco feel to get people butts moving. Then rushing into the midway point the track hit you big a big, raw, SynthWave lead, adding a little hands-in-the-air big room atmosphere to the tune. Coming equipped with a reMix from Sp00nfed amongst others, this single is sure to make some waves with smooth Electro Disco lovers.
