Arcadis’ ‘London Lights’ EP

Arcadis

Nu-Disco label Pole Position Recordings latest release come from German producer Arcadis who drops an awesome collection of  blissed out Urban Disco tunes. Soft focus Funk for hot nights in the city. Having impressed earlier this year with some dreamy Nu-Disco jams, it’s time for this German producer to show his mettle on the EP front.

The EP kicks off with it;s title track, and in our opinion the releases highlight. London Lights is a pumping slice of Nu-Disco. Hazy vocals drift across a sea of funky bass, hypnotic arpeggios and stabbing House piano, all with the kind of inner-city cool that only comes naturally. Elsewhere on the EP you’ll find Hidden Sunset, a sunrise Disco tune with nothing but laid back good times on it’s mind. It’s a track with a slightly different sound to it’s contemporaries due to a kind of machine element to the rhythm,  which gives the format a nice twist. Lazuli & Viper Strike whip up the track Waitress, into a summery Tropical festival jam, full of wood blocks and squelchy bass. the original of Waitress isn’t actually on the EP, but Pole Position have made it available for download, it’s a big pumping synth disco tune, that is slightly more ElectroPop than the others on the release, but makes a nice companion to the EP. Alongside these tracks on London Lights, you’ll find the slow-jam of Lost Days and a soaring SynthWave reMix from Silver Disco. Another fine release from the Pole Position people.

Tempogeist’s ‘Transatlantic’ EP

Tempogeist

Transatlantic is the new EP from Belgian Disco duo Tempogeist. Out now on Shiny Disco Club the EP contains three original tracks and a host of reMixes by some of the best talent around. It’s a release chock full of big synth Boogie and smooth Disco sounds.

We Need Lovers is a slick late-night jam. With an effortless cool Tempogeist lay down right vintage synth sounds and a laid back Disco vibe. The track is complimented with a velvet male vocal and some gentle female MCing with an early Bronx feel. That feel is carried over into Romeo, which is the EPs highlight for us. A solid Boogie track with a sing-song old school rap that just flows with the track so well. a laid back party starter. Hold On picks up the pack a little and moves proceedings into a more DiscoPop territory, layering Tempogeist’s wickedly silky vintage Disco sounds with a catchy upbeat vocal. this track gets the bulk of the remix treatment, with work from Prometones, Rogue Vogue and this track from Germany’s Satin Jackets, who deliver a squelchy bassed slab of electronic funk.  Also available, but not on the EP, is this version of Romeo from Swedish SynthWavers Monitor 66. their take on the tune adds severe amounts of piano and space, but interesting use of the vocals to create a spacey and melodic House track.

Justin Faust reMixes French Horn Rebellion Vs. Database

French Horn Rebellion vs. Database

It’s been about two and a half years since New York duo French Horn Rebellion teamed up with Brazilian double act Database. That first meeting of minds produced the amazing Beaches & Friends and while both acts have been reasonably quite in the past few months is seems their time has been well spent getting the band back together.

This new collaboration has resulted in Poster Girl, which also features a sultry vocal cameo from music-blogger-about-town Nancy Lu, comes complete with a reMix from Germany’s finest, Justin Faust. Faust keeps the vocal intact, which is a good call as the track is a totally catchy, fun hit in the making, and drops them over a blissed out Disco tune that revolves around an infectious hook. This track is pure good times, to be enjoyed in the sun with friends.

French Horn Rebellion Vs. Database – Poster Girl (Justin Faust reMix)

French Horn Rebellion Vs. Database’s Poster Girl is released soon and also features both French Horn Rebellion and Database’s versions and an additional reMix from Peter Wade.

Cassette Club reMixed by Nude Disco

Cassette Club

London ElectroPop duo Cassette Club are now gearing up for the release of the full version of their Flash EP on Modal later this month (the two track single is available on Bandcamp now), and amongst the track contained within is this gem from scene workaholics Nude Disco. It’s a reMix of Bodylights, which was last featured on Cassette Club’s recent free Unreleased EP.

Nude Disco drop a little Funky House, a little Deep House and a little Nu-Disco into the mix for their latest jam. Luckily the vocal refrain remains intact, as it’s one of the smoothest choruses you’ll hear all year and Nude Disco use that to it’s fullest, wrapping it up in a heady mixture of throbbing basslines, pounding drums and hypnotic synths. Nude Disco add a little drama to proceedings too, with a big vocoded build midway before dropping you back in the Funk.

ATTAR!’s début single

ATTAR!

It’s weird to think that Folivora Parade is Belgian Nu-Disco guru ATTAR!’s début single. Coming equipped with the credentials of being one half of excellent analog Disco duo Mustang, ATTAR! has been wowing is for the past year with a succession of well-received mixtapes and some of the best reMixes of the past twelve months. Adamski, The Gossip, Citizens! and Appaloosa can all count themselves amongst those who have been graced with ATTAR!’s smooth electronic grooves.

But now the time has come for the man to unleash his first original release on the world. We’ve heard snippets of Folivora Parade before, and now it;s out in all it’s glory. For free too. It’s a laid back, Tropical jam that drops some nice late ‘80’s House elements into the mix. Adding some steel drum like leads and 727 sounding percussion to the tune brings the island feel, but that’s held on a European House base alongside some mysterious synth tones in the background. All this results in a track with real depth and an interesting opening salvo.

Michoacan’s ‘Disco Sucks so Good’ reMixes

Michoacan

Michoacan’s Disco Sucks So Good, or D.S.S.G was originally the B-side for his 2006 Lectroluv 12” Basshead. It seems the track made such an impression on those at Eskimo Recordings that six years later they are about to present the track, and a ton of remixes, fresh for 2012.

Disco Sucks So Good is a wicked crossover track Indie-Disco in a LCD Soundsystem or The Faint vein with an added injection of heavy Dub. A haunting raucous electronic workout that somehow manages to keep a groove while post-punk vocals wail over the top. The reMix package has been expertly chosen. Kasper Bjørke delivers our favourite as he holds on to the space Dub feel of the original, but mixed it deftly with some hypnotic Disco and Italo (maybe ‘Italo Dub’ is a thing after all?). Making Vito Areoplane’s monthly mix tape this month is Martin Dubka’s take on the track, who brings an explosive Moroder Disco style to the tune and takes the spaced-out Dub effects into Cosmic Funk territory. Also on the release you’ll find an Acid Funking mix from tiger Stripes.

Fire Flowerz & Birdee

Fire Flowerz & Birdee

For the second time this month, Italian Disco grinders Fire Flowerz are on the team up tip. This time hopping over to MofoHiFi’s sister label Heavy Disco for a huge new double A-side single with Birdee. We hope you like irresistible grooves and filtering, things are going to get a bit awkward if you don’t.

Fire Flowerz & Birdee’s Nocturne EP [sic] (I say [sic] there, ‘cos two tracks does not make an EP, but anyway…) contains two tracks of beefy French inspired Disco. Kicking of with In The Night, these two tracks take no prisoners on the dancefloor. In The Night is a classic peak time Disco House tune, just the right amount of the catchy vocal sample, just the right amount of filtered builds, and just the right mix of hard hitting and funky. A workhorse Disco tune. When The Evening Comes breaks a more soulful ground, keeping the tempo up but rocking a 70s Disco flavour. Two shining Disco starts right here.
