Le Cassette’s new tune

Le Cassette

London based SynthWave tinged ElectroPoppers Le Cassette recently dropped another one of their blissful retro jams. Fresh from their appearance on KEIZ BEATS’ Retro Futuristic Sounds compilation, Le Cassette are going from strength to strength.

This new track, Arms Of Mine, is a rich, emotional SynthPop track that references both American electronic ‘80’s movie soundtrack music and a very British style of vintage Pop. A mid-paced tune, Arms Of Mine, counterpoints pulsing robotic synths with a warm, emotive vocal and sparkling lead lines. It’s an electronic lament of a track, slow glides along with real passion until reaching it’s finale of full-on Electro chainsaw synths in a satisfying conclusion.

Escort reMixed by RAC

Escort

We’ve got some Moroder Disco going on right now with this new reMix of Brooklyn Disco orchestra Escort’s Starlight by one or more of the Remix Artists Collective, RAC. Actually, we know who it was, it was Andre Anjos who put together this arpeggiated monster, but where’s the fun in knowing that?

So, we have the Italo-esque Moroder arpeggiated bassline forming the core of this track. And when you have such a huge Disco voice as Adeline Michèle’s to play with, the temptation not to go all Donna Summer must be overwhelming. On top of that a real vintage feel rides the groove with emotive stings and just the right amount of Cosmic flourishes. Retro future diva stuff right here.

Two Door Cinema Club & The Knocks

Two Door Cinema Club

We recently featured the BeatauCue reMix of Indie-Dance stars Two Door Cinema Club’s Sleep Alone, but this is the one we were waiting for. New York Indie-Disco merchants The Knocks sterling rework of the track. Stay tunes for eclectic, jump up Disco sounds.

The Knocks add their percussion fuelled synth Disco sound to the mix and it works amazingly well. Their New York take on funky synths pump uncontrollably, laying down a retro-futuristic boogie with a bit of a Deep House vibe for TDCC vocalist Alex Trimble’s introspective flow. The Knocks really are at the top of their game these days and right here they prove why. This mix is a driving floorfiller, intelligent and groovy as hell.

Chew Lips reMixed by Big C

Chew Lips

Sound your air horns! It’s a premiere! On his continuing quest to infect all our brains with his infectious, chilled out, Italo/Dub mix London based producer Big C has taken Chew Lips’ fantastic new single, Hurricane, and give it both a retro ElectroPop workout and an island swing. At the same time. It’s like a musical threeway!

Hurricane is the biggest, Popiest track we’ve heard from the newest Chew Lips album so far, and a highlight of their new live set, but in Big C’s hands it becomes an atmospheric groover that really draws out the sultry drawl in Tigs vocal. Haunting Rootsy piano plays nicely against the Euro-dancefloor arpeggios with an almost Morricone feel at times. It’s a mysterious, Caribbean vibe that shouldn’t go into retro Robot music at all, let alone Chew Lip’s eclectic ElectroPop, but Big C manages to combine all three elements with an effortless cool and seamless production. Basically, it’s like a Frenchman in a futuristic black and red leather suit sipping rum on a beach in Jamaica. Or a dreadlocked warrior living it up off the shores of Orion. Italo Dub should be everyone’s new favourite genre.

Goin’ Old School: Cabaret Voltaire, T-Coy & Fashion

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

First up, one of our favourite bands of all time, Cabaret Voltaire with 1985’s Big Funk

From 1987, first wave of UK House from T-Coy’s Cariño.

Some proto-space Disco, SynthPop Funk, from Fashion’s 1981 hit Move On.

Tareq’s new reMix EP

tareq1

The Greek kind of SynthPop Tareq is closing the door on the fist chapter of his career, his excellent début album, Cocoon and it’s singles, by releasing a free compilation of reMixes of the track Mosquito. The EP hold six tracks, reMixes of Mosquito from Marsheaux, Rolla Scape, 5tarcrush and SaikaL alongside a new track, Waiting For The Rain and an acoustic version of Reign Of Hearts.

The EP’s standouts are the reMixes of Mosquito from Marsheaux and 5tarcrush. Marsheaux, one of our favourite SynthPop girl duos, brings an classic SynthPop feel to the track. Their majestic Depeche Mode-esque sound lending gravitas to the track. Pounding machine beats and rich synth chords rise and fall as Tareq’s emotional lament stands accompanied by some Marsheaux backing vocal work. 5tarcrush takes a slightly more dancefloor oriented approach, layering think the arpeggios and buzzsaw synths, there’s even a little House piano in there too! Tareq is currently working on his new album, titled Fish.

Chvrches’ new single

Chvrches

OK,  Chvrches, what’s the deal with the ‘v’. You never used to have it, your SoundCloud username used to be ‘churchestheband’.  I really think we all need a say in this. I mean, if I’m going to be writing about you more, and I imagine I will be, I need to know if I have to use the ‘v’. Is that just a stylised thing, or is that actually how you are spelling Churches now? It’s like CHEW LiPS all over again.

Chvrches new single, their second song after the stunning Lies, is The Mother We Share, and while Lies seems to bubble up slowly through the internet, the announcement of this new track seemed to break the blogosphere for a time. This is a good thing. If an bands around right now deserves some blogosphere breaking attention it’s Chvrches. The Mother We Share is a nice mixture of bright, but brooding electronics tempered by Lauren Mayberry’s sweet vocal. A tad more euphoric than the industrial stomp of Lies, showing a different facet to Chvrches. There is no doubt in our minds, Chvrches are going to be huge.

♫ Chrvches – The Mother We Share

I’ll tell you what, Chvrches, lets make a deal. You get to keep the ‘v’ if you promise never to use a △? Sound good?
