Mental Minority

Mental Minority

Mental Minority is, well, is a German SynthWave producer. That’s about all we know about him. But that’s a good thing, because there’s loads to talk about the music!

He’s recently dropped a new track ‘T.V. Outrun’ and an new EP ‘Moodshifter’. Both display his love of ‘80’s and Italo. ‘T.V. Outrun’ is a bouncy, swirling peice that mixes the Italo bassline with epic shifting pads and sparkling synth melodies. It;s a good introduction to Mental Minority’s sound. Emotive and involving synthesizer soundtracks. The ‘Moodshifter’ EP is free from his SoundCloud page and contains five tracks of electronic soundscapes and retro beats. The highlight being ‘Shifting the Decades’ an Italo journey that conjures visions of Tokyo skylines, robotic beats with the soul of the orient. The whole EP is definitely worth checking out.

Christianoshi’s new track.

Christianoshi

We covered new London ElectroPop artist Christianoshi last year when Trademark dropped a gloriously Dead Or Alive reMix of his track ‘Trust’. Well, the man is back with a brand new track, ‘I Feel Sick’. It’s unsettling, moody SynthPop time!

The first thing we noticed with ‘I Feel Sick’, is the return of the  late ‘80’s SynthPop sound. Is this Christianoshi’s influence or a return to production duties for Trademark, wherever this injection comes from it’s most welcome. Again, as with ‘Trust’ it’s easy to compare to ‘86/’87 Pet Shop Boys, although ‘I Feel Sick’ sees Christianoshi with a little of the Andy Bell to his vocals this time around. It’s a dancefloor burner, the kind of hypnotic track to loose yourself in, even the vocals have a chanting quality to them that adds to a musical mantra. Time to keep an eye on Christianoshi we think.

Pyramid’s ‘Troubles’

Pyramid

Pyramid is going from strength to strength, every time he releases a new slice of Sci-Fi electronica it’s even more awesome than the last.

The French SynthWave genius’ latest tune ‘Troubles’ is a slow burning synthesizer delight. Building layers upon layers of machine melodies and arpeggios Pyramid carries the listener away to some futuristic dystopia. I immediately want to compare to Vangelis or Jarre, but out of the two I think Pyramid leans toward the Jarre side of things, he seems to be able to capture the same kind of moods, the same contradictory optimistic melancholia, in his tunes.

Pyramid – Troubles

Pyramid’s album, ‘Lost In Space’ is out now.

Silenx’s new tune

Silenx

Portuguese SynthWave producer Silenx’s new tune, ‘Space Love’ is an almost perfect slice of epic Nu-Italo.

There’s so much going on in this tune, it’s like a Russian doll, once you’ve absorbed one layer there is more to get out of it. Silenx is easily one of the best retro synth producers out there right now and ‘Space Love’ is a perfect example of why. It’s a deep , emotional groove that carries you along with it’s story, from the Italo bassline to the sweeping, involving pads the track has something to say. I can’t wait for a whole album of Silenx tunes!

Lenno reMixes St. Lucia

st-lucia

I’m so into Lenno right now, i dropped two of his mixes last Friday at the electronic rumors Volume 1′ launch party and the totally rocked the dancefloor.

He’s got such a gift for creating these massive, big room Disco tunes that just build and build. We’ve already heard Starsmith’s take on the new Neon Gold Records release from St. Lucia , ‘We Got It Wrong’. The Finnish relative newcomer takes more established producers to school with this absolutely huge chunk of Nu-Disco. It’s got that, now recognisable, Lenno ‘sound’, the choppy, bright synths playing against the Funk bass. It looks like it;s going to be Lenno’s year.

The ‘We Got It Wrong’ 12” is released 14th February as a pre-cursor to March’s EP.

Pelifics & Electric Youth

Pelifics

This week sees the release of Pelifics’s first of two incoming ‘Lifetime’ EPs on Toronto’s Brilliantine records.

We previewed one of the EPs tracks in January that saw Norway’s Pelifics teaming up with Human Life, now you can have a listen to what is arguable the most eagerly awaited track on the EP, his collaboration with Electric Youth, ‘Wish It Could Last’. The track is pretty awesome,  a bouncy retro ElectroPop track. Just slightly minimal and just slightly melancholy but all fun. Built on Bronwyn’s classic sounding vocals and Pelifics’ amazing grasp on big, lush synth sounds and textures, ‘Wish It Could Last’ is exactly how retro Pop should be sounding.

Selebrities’ ‘Night Heat’

Selebrities

‘Night Heat’ is the new single from New Wavers Selebrities, After their acclaimed album of late year, ‘Delusions’ it appears that they’ve been listening to early The March Violets a lot.

This new track really does sound like what would happen if Com Truise got really, really into early ‘80’s Goth, I’m still really not sure what to make of it, I like it but it makes my brain hurt. I turned my back on whiny, wall of sound,  guitar over two decades ago and now this track sounds like someone playing an old Goth tune over some SynthWave I really like and likening it as much as I do makes me feel dirty inside.

Queen Of Hearts’ Valentines gift

Queen Of Hearts

So, I’m ill, the last two weeks leading up to the release of ‘electronic rumors Volume 1’ and it’s launch  party been stressful and damn hard work. The launch was massive, the place was paced and jumping and people came from far and wide to witness some of the best ElectroPop in the world. Some of those people brought some lurgie with them and my sleep and food deprived body just didn’t have the energy to mount a defence. Yes, it’s the man flu (hence the lack of posts the last couple of days).

So leave it to Queen Of Hearts, fresh from a jaw-dropping performance at the ‘electronic rumors Volume 1’ launch party to cheer me up with a 48 hour preview of her brand new material (which she played some of  on Friday, and was awesome) as a Valentine’s present to you all, seeing as how she is, ostensibly, the patron saint of today. She’s spreading the love with a track she’s been honing live for a while, ‘A Moment In Love’, which is big, epic Pop of the highest order. The track pulls you in with a nice squarewave bassline reminiscant of ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’, but Queen Of Hearts pulls off some vocal chops that Kylie probably couldn’t (sorry Kylie!) that lend the track and extra kick of edgy drama. And that’s why we love Queen Of Hearts, there’s a darkness, a dangerousness, to her, which is always going to make her one of the more interesting Pop stars of the 21st century.

The download is only gonna’ be up for 48 hours, so grab it while it’s box fresh!
