[Audio] The Knocks & St. Lucia

We’ve been looking forward to hearing this one ever since we first heard rumbles that New York Disco duo The Knocks were doing a track with one of our favourite ElectroPop artists St. Lucia. The result, The Knocks new single, Modern Hearts, is released later this month. Which, after a few listens is far too long to wait, it’s one of the jump-up DiscoPop tracks of the year.

Modern Hearts is a track that give you a rush. Combining the best of summery Disco sounds with a superbly written Pop anthem. A stomping beat pins the track down, giving free rein to thick synth stabs and playful arpeggios to ride a rolling bassline. Alongside St. Lucia’s soaring vocal, it all makes up one of those tracks that just makes you smile, you can’t help it, which is what makes it the perfect track for drinking and dancing in the sun. This one’s being added to our festival season playlist.

[MP3] New track from Nude Disco

Here we have a brand new slice of smooth synth Disco from London’s Nude Disco. Apparently this is taken from a forthcoming Nude Disco records sampler. Apparently there’s a Nude Disco Records now, and apparently this is from a samples they are putting out. Looks line Vern is holed up in South London creating a media Empire with the awesome Nude Disco clubnight, the music and now a label. Disco things are happening.

Anyhoo, global Disco dominance aside, this latest tune is a blissfully chilled excursion on thick synths and wicked licks. Weaving a little SynthWave and a little squelchy LA Funk into the track, Vern serves up a plethora of summertime sounds. With everyone making such soulful summer jams these days, we seem to be stockpiling some serious sunshine tunes of mass destruction, to be used the minute the sun comes out for more that two hours.

[Audio] Chrome Canyon reMixed by Freak You

Brooklyn synth wizard Chrome Canyon’s reMix is is finally out this week. the album is a collection of reMixes of tracks from his, frankly, amazing album Elemental Themes. We’ve already had a peek at versions from Chateau Marmont and ATTAR!, so next up is On The Fruit label boss Freak You, who takes on the albums lead single, and dystopian Sci-Fi monster, Generations.

Freak You ups the tempo somewhat and goes nuts with arpeggiated synth craziness. Keeping a Disco groove, but not letting that stand in the way of him wigging out, Freak You revels in an intoxicating pallet of electronic sounds. More Terminator than the original’s BladeRunner, albeit with a massive does of Cosmic Disco, this is one to please any fans of synthetic soundtracks. Part SynthWave, part galactic Funk, part brap, this is a classy reMix.

[Audio] 5 Reasons & Patrick Baker

Out this week on Shiny Disco Club is this new collaboration between Russian Nu-Disco producer 5 Reasons and out good friend Patrick Baker. 5 Reasons is a ridiculous 16 years old with a grasp of smooth Disco and House that, really, no-one that age has any right having. Putting more than a few of his contemporaries to shame his new single, Nightdrive In Moscow, once again makes us wonder where Russia is getting all this talent from. Something in the water?

Nightdrive In Moscow is loaded with elements you’d normally associate with more seasoned Nu-Disco producers. Rich 70s strings, relaxed Disco licks, choppy synth work, this isn’t cookie cutter Disco, this a well thought out, highly musical, nostalgia that is generally the realm of the top tier of artists. Patrick’s vocals flow like water over this smooth groove making the whole experience slick as hell. reMixes for the single are supplied by two Nu-Disco staples. Germany’s kings of Boogie Satin Jackets deliver a sumptuous, string lead, Disco mix that’s laden with warm bass hooks and a breezy feel, and Mexico’s Bronx, who gets a little more Housey with the track, mixing a warehouse vibe with some sweet Tropical percussion. Did we mention 5 Reasons was 16. Insanity!

[MP3] Kisses reMix The Embassy

Here’s a nice little, summery, reMix that LA SynthPop duo Kisses have done. the target of their laid back noodlings is Swedish Indie outfit The Embassy. Their recent single Everything I Ever Wanted is pure Folky Indie, but Kisses save the day by injecting the track with some buzzy synths and B-Boy Beats.

It’s the bests and the vocals that sine in this mix. That’s early 80s drum machine beat give the song a whole new spin. Whilst there’s still a smattering of the originals guitar in this reMix, it’s nicely counterpointed by with warm synths and electric piano. The vocal becomes a smooth, almost Chillwavey, summery haze when balanced with Kisses chilled, Venice Beach, SynthPop. Morphing a twee Indie tune into a laid back summer crusin’ track, Kisses have worked their magic once again.

[MP3] MiGHty mOUse reMixes Keljet

This is all kinds of crazy good. Dutch Disco dons Keljet new single for On The Fruit Records, Love Of A Life featuring Brooklyn’s X Ambassadors, as reMixed by the mighty mighty MiGHty mOUse. What more could you ask for now the weather is getting better. Those nights are getting warmer, and longer, and this is the perfect soundtrack.

Few people do such classy deep House/Disco collisions like MiGHty mOUse, and this one’s got the best warehouse vibe. With an absolutely infectious Piano Rave hook over the top of some gloriously groovy, slightly Torpical, Disco, MiGHty mOUse delivers a track that’ll have you entranced on the dancefloor. You can totally loose yourself in this one as the hook nicely plays against X Ambassadors passionate vocal. This is only the first reMix of this track to break ground, can’t wait to hear the rest.

[Audio] Lo-Fi Beats’ début EP

Yeah, Like This is the début release from Southend Producer Lo-Fi Beats. The man’s completely new to us, but based on the strength of this forthcoming EP he’s a name we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on in the future. Also, bit of trivia, he won Mixmag’s ‘play a set at Creamfields’ competition a few years back, so we’re guessing he is as handy with a pair of decks as he is with gnarly synth. Lo-FI Beats drops the Yeah, Like This EP at the end of this month on his own label, Deaf By Records.

The EP’s title track is a blissful LA Funk jam that we can only imagine Southend must have been getting some particularly fine weather whiles Lo-Fi Beats was recording. Smooth beats, deep warping basslines and twisting Moogy lead lines are the order of the day here. Drop in a little Hip Hop influence and some big synths and you’ve got the perfect, laid back, sunshine tune. Stick this on and melt. Yeah, Like this is backed up with the driving SynthWave of Crank’d Up and Winter Warmer, a track with show off Lo-Fi Beats ability to create electronic moods. Bringing a nostalgic, gentle, vibe to the EP, Winter Warmer wraps you up in a blanket of rounded synths and rich tones. Definitely an impressive première release from Lo-Fi Beats.

[News] Empire Of The Sun announce new single

While we’re all sitting around twiddling our thumbs waiting for the highly anticipated (by us anyhow) sophomore album from Australian ElectroPop duo Empire Of the Sun, they’ve just announced something that will tide us over for a bit. Next Tuesday the first single from the record, Ice On The Dune, will be released.

Titled Alive, the new single drops on Tuesday 16th ahead of the album who release date has also been announced. Ice On The Dune is due to hit stores on 14th June. We weren’t even sure there would be a second Empire Of The Sun Album, so all this news has made our morning. Really excited to hear what the duo have come up with.
