[MP3] Viceroy & French Horn Rebellion

Viceroy & French Horn Rebellion

Will you look at this! Two of our favourite producers these days, New York Disco duo French Horn Rebellion, who have been knocking it out of the park recently and San Francisco’s Viceroy, whose Dreams Of Bombay is still on rotation round these parts, teaming up to deliver a massive party jam, for free (initially). It’s an ode to their “favourite day of the week”, Friday Nights (which is technically their favourite night of the week, but we’ll just let them have that one).

Friday Nights lives up to it’s promise. A bouncy slice of huge synth Disco that plays to both Viceroy and FHR’s talents. With a punchy bassline and stabby retro synths this one is both chilled and energetic, perfect for the start of the weekend. French Horn Rebellion’s vocals are, as usual, smooth and anthemic making Friday Nights a party starter whatever day of the week you stick it on.

[Audio] Fear Of Tigers’ ‘Golden Age’

Stop the press! Fear Of Tigers is back! It’s been far too long since we’ve had a whole new Fear Of Tigers track. Undoubtedly one of the best producers in the UK right now, the wait for Fear Of Tiger’s sophomore album as been next to agonising. Originally due out in June last year (the last we heard from FoT was May 2012) the album, Hypnerotomachia Poliphiliout, always seems tantalisingly close, but so far away.

But today we can, at least, get a feel for the forthcoming record with this brand new track. Listed on SoundCloud as a ‘work in progress’, Golden Age, delivers the goods in that euphoric, emotional ,big room way only Fear Of Tigers can. Showing a more driving, dare we say it aggressive, side to Fear Of Tigers, Golden Age is pedal-to-the-metal Electro Disco juggernaut. The track mixes up a little Cut-Up Disco, a little Piano House, a little French Electro and always keeps the energy levels high. All this is, of course, wrapped up in Fear Of Tigers big emotional chord progressions, making this one to give you goosebumbs on the dancefloor. Grins all round!

[MP3] Figure Of 8 covers Joy Division

figure-of-8_thumb

OK, so we know Figure Of 8 has been in Game Of Thrones, so obviously he’s got some experience with battles and weapons and all kinds of ‘deeds’, but jeeez, nothing prepared us for the kind of bravery it takes to go near Joy Division’s Love Will Tear Us Apart. That takes big brass balls. Many before him have tried and failed. When you play the game of covering-Joy-Division’s-most-recognisable-song-and-a-beloved-classic, you win or you die.

So don’t expect classic riffs and sing-a-long moments here. Figure Of 8 wisely stays away from trying to ape the original. Instead we are treated to more of a homage, a deep, Acid tinged House tune. Haunting and hypnotic, this one draws you into it’s strobe light groove threatening to keep you on the edge of it’s hook forever until finally breaking out with some warm pads and pinprick snyths. As the ♥ Will Tear Us Apart marches toward it’s finale, layers of sound wash over the track pushing it toward it’s euphoric high point. Figure Of 8 has this uncanny knack of making classic, almost timeless, sounding Dance music, and once again he’s delivered the goods.

[Audio] Auxiliary Tha Masterfader’s reMixes Statickman

Statickman

Time for some real 70 synth Disco vibes right about now with Dutch boogiemeister Auxiliary Tha Masterfader’s latest work. Straight on after the release of his latest EP, Music For Discotheques, Aux brings us this retro future reMix of Statickman’s The End Of The Times.

Aux whips out his analog big guns and delivers a rolling, expansive track. Part Italo floorfiller, part throwback Disco, mostly Cosmic journey. An evocative galactic journey loaded with sweeping synths and engine-like arpeggios in which Aux neatly straddles the line between dancefloor and dreams. With the addition of a sprinkling of vocoded vocals and an infectious hook, this reMix will transport to you more exciting, possibly silver jumpsuited, places.

[Audio] Le Youth reMixes Jakwob

Jakwob

Hot on the heels of his latest mixtape LA Disco producer Le Youth is back with something a little more Housey. Taking Dubstep superstar Jakwob’s latest single Fade Wes James whips up something a little trans-continental, and funky as hell.

This reMix is like a meeting of Chicago and LA. While undoubtedly early 90s House at it’s core, Le Youth washed the track in smooth LA Disco sounds. The end result being a glorious mix of deep bassed warehouse grooves a lush beach vibe snyths. Le Youth plays with the vocals perfectly to accompany the track. Expect woody basses, sweeping snyths, robotic percussion and vocals that swirl round your head in this intoxicating slice of dancefloor gold.

[Zen] Synthesizer Zen

[Audio] Chrome Canyon reMixed by ATTAR!

Chrome Canyon

Here’s the next track from the reMix companion to Brooklyn synth wizard Chrome Canyon’s utterly amazing album Elemental Themes. Elemental reMixes is out next week and having heard the Chateau Marmont reMix of Elemental Themes big single Generations, we can now wrap our ears around this version of the mind warping Memories Of A Scientist by Belgium’s finest ATTAR!.

The track is a really interesting blend of ATTAR!’s robo-Disco House sound and Chrome Canyon’s proggy synth excursions. If fact, we’d go so far as to say that ATTAR! leans somewhat toward the latter for his adventures in 70s synth music. With all the drama of majestic SynthWave the reMix builds and builds, both musically and the tension, before launching into a Moroder-esque late 70s electronic Disco workout. Taking Chrome Canyon’s flair for vintage synth opuses and running with it, taking the originals Sci-Fi mystery straight to the dancefloor, and the result is stunning. Part vintage synth Disco, part 70s Sci-Fi TV theme, part prog rock solo, we’d be quite happy if all electronic music sounded like this.
