[Audio] Skream’s ‘Rollercoaster’

skream

London producer Skream continues his decent (or ascent?) into Disco and House, much to the chagrin of his hardcore Dubstep fan-base, and much to the debasement of the Nu-Disco crowd. But here’s the thing…he’s actually really good at it. This is evidenced by his forthcoming new single, Rollercoaster, a collaboration with fellow Londoner Sam Frank.

Rollercoaster is such a luscious slice of LA Synth Funk that it’s hard not to love it. Chirpy little synth riffs, wicked licks and a thumping bassline, all wrapped up with a vintage sheen and Frank’s smooth vocals, what more could you ask for in a poolside tune? How about some twisted talkbox action? You got it. Even the waiting guitar solo seems to work when paired with some Zapp & Roger style synth work. Don;t worry about who’s producing it, just enjoy.

Skream’s Rollercoaster is released 27th October.

[Audio] Little Boots’ ‘Satellite’ reMixed by Urulu

little_boots

We’ve been surprisingly un-inundated with entries in Little Boots’ ‘Satellite reMix completion. We would have expected an inbox full of entries vying for exposure, still early days yet. Meanwhile, in the real world, the Satellite single is due out early next month and this official reMix from pan-Atlantic producer Urulu sits alongside the already heard, and awesome, Lindstrøm mix.

Urulu reworks the tune into a Funky House groover that has the jazzy swing and shuffling beats of a mid-90s Dance track. Drawing from a different chunk of the 90s than is currently fashionable, Urulu brings something new, or old, to the table. Dropping space snatches of Boots’ vocals and whipping up a cosmic atmosphere pinned down by an undulating funky bassline. Summer funk ahoy!

[Audio] Cassette Club’s ‘Fire’ reMixed by Fishing Vest

Cassette Club

London ElectroPop duo Cassette Club are back next month with a brand new single of soulful Disco electronics. Fire is released in September, but ahead of the release they had made this remix of the track from recent Mullet Records signings Fishing Vest available though their Bandcamp page, just in time for another heatwave.

Fishing Vest get their Tropical groove on with this mix up between LA beach Disco and twisted synth Funk. That’s the prefect accompaniment for Cassette Club’s impassioned croon. With a nice Housey piano hook bouncing along over the Island purcussion and thick Moogy bass, this reMix serves up everything you’d want in a chilled summery floorfiller. We can’t wait to hear the rest of the EP.

[MP3] Justin Faust reMixes Night Drive’s ‘Sea Of Light’

Night Drive

We’ve written about Night Drive, the Austin Indie-Electro outfit with the terrible name a few times now, which is more than enough. So let’s not worry about them right now and wrap your ears around this luscious reMix of their Sea Of Light single by German Nu-Disco producer Justin Faust.

Faust really delivers the goods with his reMix, and by goods we mean a thick sounding, laid back, summer groove rolling in it’s own synth bass until it’s filthy with funk. The original’s sound, if anything, superfluous here as Faust makes the song his own. The pulsating poolside charm of the track is easily enough to stand on it’s own merit. Although we though the original of Sea Of Light was alright, we’d love to clock a Dub version of this.

[MP3] French Horn Rebellion cover The Human League’s ‘Don’t You Want Me’

French Horn Rebellion

Riding high on a couple of amazing and well received singles, New York DiscoPop duo French Horn Rebellion recently asked their fans what track they should cover. Well, the fans have spoken and the choice cut comes straight from our beloved The Human League and their most recognisable hit, Don’t You Want Me. Mess with The Human League and got it wrong at your peril, let’s check it out.

Bringing the tempo down and replacing the originals abrasive synths with a dreamy laid back funk, French Horn Rebellion make the track pretty unrecognisable. The lyrics crooned, the hook hammered out slap bass style this version of the tune slinks it’s way through lounge Disco until it finally nods toward the decade that spawned the song with some fidgety 80s synths. Not quite as good as the original, but a damn good attempt to reinvent the track. French Horn Rebellion get a pass.

We’re not surprised that Australian singer Chela’s new single, Romanticise, has got itself a video. The quirky ElectroPop is set to do big things in the coming months and is deserved of some visual appreciation.

The clip is simple and fun, full of vintage video effects, seeing Chela dancing around and gradually affecting her environment.

[MP3] Paulie’s ‘Want You’ reMixed by Monday Club

Paulie

We’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of sometime Cosmonaut and deep Disco producer Paulie’s new single, Want You, since last month and with Mondays imminent release we can wrap our ear holes around one of the reMixes, a luxurious boom-filled warehouse mix from enigmatic London producer Monday Club.

Monday Club really lets himself go on this mix. Starting life as a Chicago-esque jam, with almost Bleep House-like overtones the track swiftly evolves into a glorious, epic, collision of Deep House grooves, Cosmic Disco retro-futurism and Euphoric Trance, well, euphoria. You might think that sounds like a mess, but check out the reMix, it’s tight as hell and a dancefloor oddessy with a true musical narrative. Ass kicking bass too!

[MP3] Chris Malinchak’s ‘If U Got It’ (+ ‘So Into You’)

Chris Malinchak

If U Got It is the forthcoming new single from New York Funky House producer Chris Malinchak. Following up on his breakthrough hit So Good To Me, the ex-French Express man (now signed to Relentless Records) had his new tune premiered by Pete Tong on his Radio 1 show this past weekend. If U Got It is the prefect follow up to the catchy, soulful, Nu-Disco of his previous.

With a crooning selection of vocal samples and a laid back groove, If U Got It is a prime example of Malinchak’s musicality. Expertly blended electric piano and a jazzy swing give this carefree House tune a dreamy, chilled mood. But that’s not all, Malinchak is also giving away a new tune called So Into You, a deep and infectious Chicago-esque track that lifts it’s vocal hook from The System’s Don’t Disturb This Groove and applies it to some warm, summery, warehouse sounds. Grab it now!

[Audio] Le Youth reMixes Foxes’ ‘Youth’

Foxes

As we reported last week, one of ElectroPop songstress Foxes’ first tunes, Youth, is getting re-released, and as we can expect, it’s going to come with a loaded reMix package in a couple of months time. Included in that package is this slightly weird, but very cool, reMix from LA Disco producer Le Youth.

Le Youth pitched down the vocals, but not in a Chicago House way, in a was that oddly fits with what he’s done musically. Chopping and cutting the vocals over a deep Disco groove, Le Youth spins the track around with popping purcussion, sharp retro synths and an R&B swing. This is your new soundtrack for good times with good friends, even if the pitched down vocals are a tad unsettling at times.

[Audio] Rocco Raimundo reMixes Holy Models’ ‘Swimming’

holy-models_thumb

Eskimo Recordings recent accusation, Australian trio Holy Models’ new single Swimming has been causing quite a stir amongst people in-the-know int he last couple of weeks. The threesome of Adam Frawley, Mitchell Van Kaathoven and Luke McKay with a little behind the scenes help from Mr. James Curd, are due to release this début next week with a host of reMixes. One mix in particular has caught our attention, coming from Disco don Rocco Raimundo.

Rocco serves up a blistering array of poolside sounds set to a heavy, but laid back, House beat. Rolling Disco bass runs all over the tune, a synth pulsar that singes on the whole track. Hazy, delayed, vocal snatches and comfortable keys all add up to deliver a chilled, but imminently funky, seven minutes of sunshine bliss.
