[MP3] Moustache Machine’s ‘Mission Control’

Moustache Machine

Moustache Machine is a man who normally likes to keep thing firmly in the French Touch territory. With Disco on his mind he deliver a particular brand of Parisian sounds. On his new tune, Mission Control, though, he busts out of this mould and dives into the seas of SynthWave and Italo and when he finally comes up for air, he’s bringing with him a manic hybrid of all of it.

On repeated listens, Mission Control is a really stunning piece of work. There’s so much going on with it that it could have so easily sounded muddled, but Moustache Machine keeps things fluid and flowing so everything sound neat and tidy together. At it’s core the track is Italo influenced SynthWave, in a Kavinsky vein. vintage arpeggios and those big, heavy, synth chords over a driving beat. But the flourishes Moustache Machine papers the track with draw from all over. 80’s Orchestral stabs, wicked Disco licks, SynthPop chimes, big Sci-Fi Trance solos all add up to create a futuristic Disco monster that’s slightly addictive.

[MP3] Neptune Safari’s ‘Blue Valley’

neptune-safari_thumb

Parisian Nu-Disco producer Neptune Safari has delivered another, fresh out the oven, slice of smooth Disco sounds. Considering that this guys début as only a few months ago, Blue Valley is an incredibly polished piece of work, matching the skills of far more experienced Nu-Disco producers, with a natural musicality to it too.

Blue Valley is all about the wonderfully thick digital slap bass, a complex pattern that of effortlessly groovy. It’ll stick in your head and have it nodding all day. The rest of the tune is made up of a subtle beat and washes of laid back electric piano and sweeping synths. Reminding us a little of a very early 2000’s form of Disco House, Blue Valley has got it’s heart in the right place. A chilled entry into your keep-them-moving crate.

[Audio] Ali Jamieson’s ‘Bitrman’ EP

ali-jamieson_thumb

Ali Jamieson’s at it again. The man can’t sit still. Possibly going for the most-releases-in-a-six-month-period record he blew up at the weekend with his latest EP. Released on Mortar & Pestle Sound, the Bitrman EP is another three tracks of Jamieson’s intelligent, quirky Disco. Can this prolific producer keep up the pace? Surely we can get another five EP’s out of him before X-mas?

Bitrman kicks off with it’s title track, a compelling mix of organic and synthetic sounds, of infectious hooks and a spacy atmosphere. Ali tempers the surprisingly Rocky drums with waves of hazy synth sounds and shimmering leads. Paired with a twisted electronic bassline it all created a complex, but accessible groove. Mr. Lobster introduces broken beats into Jamieson’s vintage Disco for a Housey Garage effect while the rear is brought up by Panasonic, an eight minute Italo House epic. A retro-future odyssey with a live jam feel, Panasonic lays down hypnotic electronics as a base for a cavalcade of synth noodling and House-esque vocal snatches. Another sweet EP from Jamieson. Same time next week?

[Audio] Little Boots reMixes Pet Shop Boys’ ‘Love Is A Bourgeois Construct’

Pet Shop Boys

Are you ready for some seriously cosmic Moog Funk? You’d better be. This week the new single from Pet Shop Boys’ excellent Electric album was released, and Love Is A Bourgeois Construct comes with a whole host of reMixes, including this groover from Little BootsLittle Boots Discothèque side of things.

Boots takes these SynthPop legends and drags them straight to the dancefloor, easing them onto it with some lush galactic synths and retro futuristic zaps, before bringing in an absolutely massive, infection, Funk bassline that warbles it’s way through the entire track. It;s really that bassline that pins down the song, the combination of that plus Neil’s vocals might seem like strange bedfellows, but Boots makes it work perfectly. This tune is surprisingly authentic sounding early Disco, all mirrorballs and spangley suits, which somehow plays to the track itself. Addictive listening.

[MP3] Justin Faust reMixes The Knocks’ & Treasure Fingers’ ‘My Body’

The Knocks

If we’re absolutely honest, we found the collaboration between New York DiscoPop duo The Knocks and Atlanta floorfiller Treasure Fingers, two artists we really dig, a little disappointing. My Body just didn’t really do it for us, it felt like these two were trying to  do something, rather than just feeling it. Anyway, have no fear, Germany’s finest, Justin Faust, is here to save the day with this storming reMix.

After his awesome reMix of Night Drive’s Sea Of Light, Faust goes for a seriously pounding warehouse groove on this one, replete with shuffling hi-hats and utterly infectious 90s House hook. Faust build and build an a hypnotic tip, the kind of thing perfectly suited to long nights under the strobe light, preferable in a disused building somewhere, lost in music. A definite improvement over the original, when the beat kick back in after the breakdown, you’ll be grinning like a loon.

[Video] Chromeo & Oliver’s reMix of Donna Summer’s ‘Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)’

Love Is In Control Finger On The Trigger Chromeo O... YouTube

A while back we served up the amazing team-up of Chromeo & Oliver reMixing Donna Summer’s Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger), taken from the forthcoming reMix tribute album, Love To Love You Donna. Now check out the official video for this astoundingly good slab of synth Funk.

The video riffs off the original, but adds a load of stock footage and colourful effects. A reMix of the original video for a reMix of the track, you might say.

Donna Summer’s Love To Love You Donna is released 22nd October via Verve.

[MP3] Free Johan Agebjörn/Sally Shapiro reMix album, ‘Sweetened’

johan-agebjorn

Never one to sit around on his arse, prolific ElectroPop producer Johan Agebjörn having already released the new Sally Shapiro album and it’s associated collection of reMixes, the man is keeping himself busy by releasing this free compilation of his reMix work, both as himself and as part of Sally Shapiro. Sweetened pulls together some pretty big names that Agebjörn has gifted with his production skills, featuring the likes of Little Boots, Jam & Spoon, Glass Candy, Lindstrøm, CFCF, Wolfram and Holy Ghost! and Hercules And Love Affair, and more.

It’s hard to pick favourites from this sweet collection, the releases here span a couple of years and showcase every side to Agebjörn’s production. From the blistering ElectroPop to the growling Italo, Johan always injects his music with an emotional energy, often mirroring the mood of the vocals, rising and falling with the sentiment of the track. Expect an album’s worth of punchy dance beats and starlight synthesizers that whirl around your head. At times the album show’s off Agebjörn deeper, groovier, more experimental side, but on the whole you’re treated to 13 tracks from one of the best ElectroPop producers in the world working today. Did we mention it was free?

[Audio] Crayon reMixes Is Tropical’s ‘Lover’s Cave’

Is Tropical

This week saw the release of the new single from Kitsuné Music dance-rockers Is Tropical and sat amongst the reMixes is this shining star from one of our favourite producers, ex-Le Crayon, now just Crayon. The track, Lover’s Cave boasts a whole host of sweet reMixes from the likes of the amazing tesla Boy, Dombrace K-X-P and Jonjo Jury, but we think Crayon’s just takes the prize.

You’ll realise why this reMix is our pick of the release the second that warm, thick, 80s synth funk bassline kicks in. It’s pure Boogie, who’s Boogieness is only compounded by the rolling modulated synths and spaced-out delayed vocals snatches. It’s an utterly compelling track, revelling in nostalgia and vintage groove, but with both feet planted firmly in the present. Play out all this over a poppin’ B-Boy beat and Crayon has done it again. Frankly, this reMix is far too good for the mediocre original.

[Audio] Clancy and Kraver reMix Paulie’s ‘Want You’

Paulie

We’ve covered London Nu-Disco don Paulie’s Want You in the run up to the single’s release a fair bit, it’s easily one of the big tunes of the late summer. We’ve been eager for the full single release, with reMix package, and this week out wait was finally over. Released this week the track comes equipped with the excellent Monday Club reMix we posted last week and these two gems from our boy Clancy and Dutch producer Kraver.

Clancy’s take on the track is a suitably warm House jam.Rolling on a hook that worms it’s way into your brain played interchangeably by a hammered piano and a deep synth organ Clancy really captures a late night warehouse vibe with his mix. Sitting at the deep and soulful end of the House spectrum, this version mixes a little nostalgia with a little of the UK’s current clubland scene for a result which would rock almost any dancefloor int he early hours. Kraver gets far more retro with his reMix, a sumptuous banquet of electronic Soul and Boogie with punchy digital basslines and thick 80s synths all coming together with some smooth vocoding to take you back in time. the whole single is one of the finest dance released of the year, you should check it out.
