[Audio] Juveniles’ ‘Strangers’, with reMixes from Jupiter & Le Crayon

Juveniles

French ElectroPoppers Juveniles are back this week with a brand new single and some tasty reMixes. Strangers was released yesterday, this first since last November’s Through The Night re-release, and is taken from the duo’s forthcoming début album. reMixes in the package come from the stellar line-up of Jupiter and Le Crayon.

Strangers is a rollicking slice of Indie-Electro produced by none other than Yuksek, and you can tell. The track has a bit of that Yuksek raw Disco sound. Heavy on the bass, Strangers works subdued verses in order to deliver the anthemic good in the choruses. Fellow French duo Jupiter’s take on the tracks is hypnotically basslined Space Disco epic where strange synth melodies intertwine around each other and the vocals. In contest, Le Crayon bring the proper laid back vintage Disco vibe to the song, using spacious electric piano and a warbling bass tone to roll-out an solid groove. All-in-all, we think the Jupiter version is out favourite, but the whole single is good work.

[MP3] Let Em Riot’s ‘I Know’

Let Em Riot

We have a treat for you to kick off the week. A new freebie from Californian retro SynthPop artist Let Em Riot. Riding high on the success of his SlashWave EP (released via electronic rumors) Let Em Riot presents I Know, his latest masterpiece, for the incredibly cheap price of an email address.

I Know is just the kind of top quality trip you’d expect from this guy. Nostalgic, without being trite. Catchy without being reparative. Beautiful without being, er, not-beautiful. I Know breezes out of your speakers and when, after the tension building verse, the track launches into it’s sweeping, epic, chorus you can’t help but be hooked. It’s difficult for us to big up one of out own artists, but Alan Oakes really is one of the best songwriters in electronic music right now, hell that’s why we signed him, and I Know is just further proof of this. If you haven’t experienced Let Em Riot yet, here’s your gateway.

[Audio] Ghost Beach remixed by Gigamesh

Ghost Beach

It still a couple of weeks until New York duo Ghost Beach release their Modern Tongues reMix EP, but we’ve already heard a few of the reMixes included. Here’s the next in line. We’re were groovin’ to his massive last single, Enjoy, and Minneapolis’ finest, Gigamesh, drops this beautiful reMix of Miracle. Part of the reMix album, this tune was so good they actually released it as a single last week via Spotify.

Eschewing his usual high energy Nu-Disco on favour some something a little more reflective, Gigamesh weaves an emotionally rich tapestry of intertwining synth lines and pads. It’s a bassy track that conjures a rich introspective mood. Pitching down the vocals a bit ads the the anthemic feel, it’s just a song that you can;t help but connect with. Undulating synth riffs playing against deep booming kicks whit that heartfelt vocal is an amazing combination. The reMix EP can’t come quick enough.

[MP3] The Boy & Sister Alma’s début single

The Boy & Sister Alma

The Boy & Sister Alma are a brand new ElectroPop outfit out of Montana making some a noise with elements of 80s Pop, avant-Pop and Indie-Electro. they’ve just released their début single, the atmospheric and euphoric Lizard Eyes. Début singles are always a tricky proposition. I’s like your manifesto, introducing yourself and telling the world what you are about, The Boy & Sister Alma have done pretty well picking their premiere soundtrack.

Lizard Eyes is a laid back, haunting at times, slice of ElectroPop that manages to walk the line between 80s Retro Pop and IndiePop. Lilting vocals over an almost Italo SynthWave backing makes for an unusual combination, but works really well. There’s even a rockin; guitar solo in there it keep even the staunchest of 80s epic purist happy. All-in-all it’s a little rough around the edges, but The Boy & Sister Alma are definitely an act that shows promise, and we’re interested to see where they go from here.

[MP3] FM Attack reMixes Betty Who

Betty Who

Boston’s resident Australian Indie-ElectroPop princess Betty Who has just released a reMix collection honouring her single Somebody Loves You. The packages is the result of a reMix competition, and, although we normally like to steer clear of those, of note here is the winner was none other than Canadian SynthWaver extraordinaire FM Attack, and rightly so his reMix leads the release.

FM Attack works his magic here. The original is an upbeat, guitar and synth fuelled slice of raucous Pop which we see here transformed into a spacey, impassioned, retro synth monster. The combination of FM Attack’s nostalgic synthesizer wizardry and Betty Who’s catchy refrain results in perfect 80s Pop. The maths is simple, add these two things together and you have every element needed to deliver a tune that, even when hearing it for the first time, feels recognisable and comfortable. I’m not sure if Betty Who was trying to come across like an 80s Popstar when she originally recorded the track, but in FM Attack’s hands that’s exactly the persona her vocals takes on. With chiming keys and a bouncy bassline, FM Attack really knocks it out of the park with this mix. A well deserved win.

[Audio] Classixx’s ‘Borderline’

Classixx

Now that we’ve gotten used to the fact that awesome LA Disco duo Classixx are well and truly back, we are ready for some now music. And here it is. Borderline is the B-side to their new single, Holding On, and is just a spot-on little treat to keep us going until Classixx’s album release, just days away now. As an added bonus, Borderline features the vocal stylings of fellow LA resident Jesse Kivel from ElectroPop outfit Kisses (who’s own forthoming, Cascine released, album is awesome BTW).

Borderline is the swirling, dreamlike, antidote to Holding On’s storming Disco credentials. The prefect chillout track, a largely beatless groove is based a pulsating arpeggio complimented by lightly struck snyths and percussion drifting, ghostly, in and out of the tune. Mostly centred around the rhythmic bass and Kivel’s heartfelt vocal, the track manages to be both infectiously catchy and completely relaxing. We’re really looking forward to the album, I think it’s going to surprise a lot of people.

[Release] Box Of Wolves & Christa Vi – Boy

02-box-of-wolves-christa-vi-boy-single-cover

Out today! This very morning! Is the new single from Canadian Chillwave future-star and  Box Of Wolves and the London singer/songwriter who’s name is on everybody’s lips Christa Vi. electronic rumors’ latest release is one we can definitely be very proud of, these guys are insanely talented and exude an effortless cool. Here’s some of the press release, which as we have now established, is fine for me to copy & paste because I wrote the thing in the first place.

Combining Box Of Wolves’ hazy synthesizer DreamPop sound with Christa Vi’s smokey voice, as she delivers an emotional and relatable refrain, was a stroke of genius. Bringing together the worlds of nostalgic analog synth music and thoughtful IndiePop with fantastic results. With a lead track destined for the radio and reMixes that will be packing dancefloors in the coming months, ‘Boy’ is sure to be many music fans’ soundtrack to the summer. Backed with a storming, Funk fuelled, Nu-Disco reMix from Toronto’s Cyclist and an ethereal slow-House workout from Tongan producer Summer Occasion, the ‘Boy’ single offers a catchy soundtrack to any mood.

I’d get used to this one, you’re going to be hearing a lot more of it in the coming months.
