ATTAR!’s début single

It’s weird to think that Folivora Parade is Belgian Nu-Disco guru ATTAR!’s début single. Coming equipped with the credentials of being one half of excellent analog Disco duo Mustang, ATTAR! has been wowing is for the past year with a succession of well-received mixtapes and some of the best reMixes of the past twelve months. Adamski, The Gossip, Citizens! and Appaloosa can all count themselves amongst those who have been graced with ATTAR!’s smooth electronic grooves.

But now the time has come for the man to unleash his first original release on the world. We’ve heard snippets of Folivora Parade before, and now it;s out in all it’s glory. For free too. It’s a laid back, Tropical jam that drops some nice late ‘80’s House elements into the mix. Adding some steel drum like leads and 727 sounding percussion to the tune brings the island feel, but that’s held on a European House base alongside some mysterious synth tones in the background. All this results in a track with real depth and an interesting opening salvo.

Fenech-Soler’s ‘All I Know’ video

All I Know is the new single from the amazing Fenech-Soler, After a trying year or so for the band it’s a welcome return, and is everything we’d have hoped for from the Indie-Electro four piece’s return.

Elliot Sanders directs this clip, which pulses with natural imagery along with the pulsing synth bass.

Futurecop! drop an albums worth of free tunes

UK SynthWave superheroes Futurecop! have spent the last couple of months busying away in the studio, cooking up a selection of tracks that they have been giving away for free on their SoundCloud page. Now, with the release of their latest tune, a tribute to the late, legendary, John Hughes, these almost an album;s worth of material out there. So, Futurecop! have collected it into a SoundCloud set for you listening pleasure.

There’s seven tracks in the collection so far, but here’s our pick of the breezy synth tunes on offer. The most recent track Futurecop! have unleashed is John Hughes (Teenage Love), obviously a homage to the greatest teen movie director to have ever lived, and it’s a track that could fit right into the soundtrack of any Hughes movie. Thick with Futurecop!’s trademark nostalgia, John Hughes (Teenage Love) is an upbeat party tune that takes you back in time whilst moving your feet. Dictionary has a more 80s British Pop feel to it thanks to the plucked guitar sound and rolling bassline. It’s a sprawling SynthWave tune that’s full of atmosphere. Taking a more traditional Futurecop! route is The Sun Is Mine, all driving arpeggios and soaring leads that perfectly mixes a retro sound and modern arrangement. ‘Till Eternity (I Miss You) is the collections reflective piece, a shimmering wall of snyths and gentle piano, set to a laid back beat, they captures and exemplifies Futurecop!’s dreamy outlook on life. the whole collection is free to download and at seven new tracks, should tide you over ‘till Futurecop!’s next album.

Michoacan’s ‘Disco Sucks so Good’ reMixes

Michoacan’s Disco Sucks So Good, or D.S.S.G was originally the B-side for his 2006 Lectroluv 12” Basshead. It seems the track made such an impression on those at Eskimo Recordings that six years later they are about to present the track, and a ton of remixes, fresh for 2012.

Disco Sucks So Good is a wicked crossover track Indie-Disco in a LCD Soundsystem or The Faint vein with an added injection of heavy Dub. A haunting raucous electronic workout that somehow manages to keep a groove while post-punk vocals wail over the top. The reMix package has been expertly chosen. Kasper Bjørke delivers our favourite as he holds on to the space Dub feel of the original, but mixed it deftly with some hypnotic Disco and Italo (maybe ‘Italo Dub’ is a thing after all?). Making Vito Areoplane’s monthly mix tape this month is Martin Dubka’s take on the track, who brings an explosive Moroder Disco style to the tune and takes the spaced-out Dub effects into Cosmic Funk territory. Also on the release you’ll find an Acid Funking mix from tiger Stripes.

Fire Flowerz & Birdee

For the second time this month, Italian Disco grinders Fire Flowerz are on the team up tip. This time hopping over to MofoHiFi’s sister label Heavy Disco for a huge new double A-side single with Birdee. We hope you like irresistible grooves and filtering, things are going to get a bit awkward if you don’t.

Fire Flowerz & Birdee’s Nocturne EP [sic] (I say [sic] there, ‘cos two tracks does not make an EP, but anyway…) contains two tracks of beefy French inspired Disco. Kicking of with In The Night, these two tracks take no prisoners on the dancefloor. In The Night is a classic peak time Disco House tune, just the right amount of the catchy vocal sample, just the right amount of filtered builds, and just the right mix of hard hitting and funky. A workhorse Disco tune. When The Evening Comes breaks a more soulful ground, keeping the tempo up but rocking a 70s Disco flavour. Two shining Disco starts right here.

80s Stallone’s ‘Hotline’ album

London based SynthWave producer 80s Stallone has always been at the top of the scene. Having been around since the scenes early days, back on MySpace, he could be considered an OG of Outrun. and also a staple on these pages. One of the unsung heroes of 80s synth music, Stallone today releases his new album, Hotline, which is twelve tracks of robotic, romantic, retro awesomeness.

Hotline is a collection of a few tracks we’ve heard before, but mostly new material, that perfectly displays why 80s Stallone is so revered amongst fans of SynthWave. Driven kicks the album off, it;s a pumping track we’ve heard before and although being a high energy opener it’s an odd choice for track one, it doesn’t really represent the rest of the album, being almost Psy-Trance in places. Daylight follows, now this is more like it. Daylight is a slick retro synth track with some haunting, but infectious vocoded vocals and a bright, reverby lead line, that lends itself to the nostalgic contemplation that this album so expounds. Summer Lovers is another well played Dreamwave track that was on repeat round these parts when it first broke ground which gets you in a comfortable beach vibe before smacking you in the face with the Electro Funk of Work Your Body, which rocks B-Boy Beats and robo vocals against warm, emotional melodies. unfortunately, Quantum Leap isn’t 80s Stallone’s cover of the TV show them tune, but what it is though is a post-Italo Boogie bassline-fest. The albums highlights come thick and fast, Smoke & Mirrors dreamy Sci-Fi atmosphere nicely follows Super Pursuit Mode’s futuristic dystopian vibe. Radioactive brings a deep 80s Funk while Pictures begins the albums trail out with big Italo fashion with soaring solo work and hypnotic vocoding. Expectation powers the album toward it;s collusion with pulsating, moody snyths, before the album sees itself out with Time, an slick combination of machine beats, sparkling leads and classic SynthPop vocoded vocals. For lovers of synthesizer music, of all kinds, 80s Stallone’s Hotline can be considered pretty essential, an intelligent excursion into vintage synth music with a modern take.

Alphabeat’s free reMix collection

Danish ElectroPop champions Alphabeat’s last single Love Sea was an enormous saccharin slice of catchy Pop. Like someone shining very bright, colourful, lights in your eyes whilst spoon-feeding you cake icing. We would expect no less from Alphabeat really, it’s part of their charm. Now the six-piece have release a reMix package for the single, it contains some serious talent, and it;s all free.

So, first up Mr. Frankmusik takes a crack at the tune. The man delivers a storming Housy mix, complete with hypnotic piano and a hands-in-the-air vibe. Using just the right amount of the originals vocals, Frankmusik creates a party mood and keeps the deep bass rumbling. The Sound Of Arrows inject the track with some of their slick ElectroPop sounds making the track sound every bit as epic and majestic as one of their own. Kastra kick off with a You Got The Love arpeggio before lifting Love Sea up into a big anthemic main room House tune with all the big room House elements you’d expect, cut up vocals, stabbing synths, and sing-a-long vocals. there four other reMixes on the release, covering a range of dancefloor moods, for free it’s a total winner.

Holy Ghost!’s new single!

We were teased it the other day, but now here it is in full. It’s the long awaited new single from New York Indie-Disco Holy Ghost!! That deserved two exclamation marks, one for Holy Ghost!’s name and one…well…just to exclaim.

It Gets Dark is the first taste we have of the duo’s forthcoming second album. After the greatness that was Holy Ghost!’s début record, 2011’s self titled album, we were pretty nervous about new material, all out fears have been cast aside though, as It Get Dark doesn’t disappoint. Raw synths, a slick Indie vibe with a slightly Housey chorus and that live New York disco sound that DFA are so known for. This is what we wanted from Holy Ghost!, full of vintage synth burbling and an anthemic chorus. The new album can;t come fast enough.
