Honom reMixed by Black Magic Disco

Honom

Released yesterday was the new reMix EP from Swedish outfit Honom. Collecting a whole bunch of top notch mixes together on one EP, Pole Position Recordings have dropped one of the Boogie EPs of the year.

Sebastian’s Birthday is a gliding track that is loaded with dancefloor promise. It’s a futuristic Disco track that combines Sci-Fi soundscapes with low down groove. Give that a slight Balearic flavour and your have a sunrise tune for the 23rd century. The standout of the reMix package, for us, have to be offerings from Black Magic Disco.  Black Magic Disco puts together a supremely funky deep Disco mix that rewards you with twisting Moog squelches and and infectious, and haunting, melody. There is no way you can listen to this tune and not move to the pounding synthetic bass.

Show Your Shoe reMixes Freedom Fry

Freedom Fry

Show Your Shoe is back! After some time away from music with a flooded studio Nico has got his Disco groove back and whist there are some special tracks waiting in the wings he is announcing his return to the party with this reMix of New York Indie-Electro duo Freedom Fry’s Summer In the City.

The Swiss wonder has always has game above that of many of his contemporaries, he has an ability to make musical connection, and find unique grooves that leaves many others in the dust. His reMix of Summer In the City is a Tropical House mash-up with quirky melodies and intricate percussion. Nico brings a feel-good beach vibe to the track and once again, his use of percussion as a melodic instrument adds an added euphoric funk. The whole island groove is give a House kick with a slick piano line and a thumping beat, the perfect sunshine combination. Show Your Shoe has been quite far too long, we’re so glad he’s back!

Casio Social Club’s Discokicks

casio-social-club

Mullet Records main man Casio Social Club is at it again, giving a fresh Boogie reMix to a dance classic, in this case Pamela Fernandez’ Kickin’ In The Beat. This early ‘90’s piano House monster was ripe for a mix for today’s retro-funkier floors and CSC rises to the challenge with a supreme track.

Discokicks, as the track is now named, was released earlier this month and as a thank you to everyone who legitimately purchased the single, as opposed to pirating it like an asshole, Mullet have dropped the Radio Edit of the track as a freebie. So, if you haven’t already checked it out, treat yourself to four and a half minutes of wicked Disco licks, smooth Boogie basslines and a rising Disco House vibe. Then go buy the reMix package.

BeatauCue reMix Two Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club

Hot on the heels of the release of their new album, Beacon, reMixes of Bangor Indie-Dance stars Two Door Cinema Club’s Sleep Along are coming in thick and fast. The single was released earlier this month and features reMixes from the likes of BeNi and The Knocks. Right here, though, we have a reworking from French noisy Disco merchants BeatauCue.

BeatauCue set you up with the original tune before dropping you right into a rockin’ Disco assault. Big speaker destroying beats and thick, thick synths dominate the track, yet it still manages to encompass the gentleness of the vocals. Chopping up the vocals in places, layering a darkly groovy bassline, buzzsaw synth and that fat French sound serves as a nice counterpoint to the track itself. Huge stuff from Alexis and Mederic!

Ruben & Ra reMix Roxy Music

bryan_ferry

Kings of the retro edit Ruben & Ra are at it again. These guys have a knack of taking sections of tracks and making them sound like they were recorded yesterday. they certainly turn up the heat on Roxy Music’s Don’t Stop The Dance and make it stand shoulder-to-shoulder with this summer’s Tropical hits.

The song is pretty groovy to begin with, but Ruben & Ra add a punchy drum track and  focus all their attention onto, what now becomes, the prefect beach Disco riff. In Ruben & Ra’s hands a dreamy mid-‘80’s Pop track becomes the perfect accompaniment to lounging by the pool. It’s all about the good times. Of course, the is a downside, and that is that Don’t Stop The Dance is actually a Bryan Ferry song, not a Roxy Music song, but at this relaxed point it’s just semantics.

Zimmer reworks Chic

Chic

Vertical Disco? What the hell is Vertical Disco? Here’s me just coming to terms with Horizontal Disco when one of our favourite Frenchmen Zimmer, Horizontal Disco king, goes all 90° on us and drops a big chunk of upright boogie.

A long time staple of his DJ sets, Zimmer has unleashed his edit of Chic‘s absolute classic Everybody Dance. Sucking the hook right out of the track and emphasising it to it’s fullest effect, Zimmer truly gets the art of the Edit right. Taking the immediately recognisable groove and tweaking it to dancefloor perfection. It’s an Reworking that would have made the disco pioneers of the Edit proud. Now, I think, it’s time we prepare for Diagonal Disco. Y’know, just so we aren’t taken by surprise.

Figure Of 8’s new single, with The Penelopes and digitalfoxglove

Figure Of 8

We first featured Bittersweet, from prolific Irish dance producer Figure Of 8, earlier this year. Now the track has been given a full singe release, with a cracking B-Side and a whole host of ace reMixes. Dermot is one of Belfast finest exports and always delivers the best slick dance music.

Bittersweet, which features the heartfelt folky vocals of fellow Irishman Jonny Nutt rolls it own with a bit of Dub, a bit of SynthPop, a bit of  Rave and a nice easy going 90s feel. Fjordland one of the single’s two B-Sides (alongside The Difference Between Finite And Infinite) is a pleasing retro rave jam and once again make me feel Orbital are a big influence on Figure Of 8, it’s got that kind of dance music feel you don’t get so much of these days, really complex interactions between elements in a densely layered track. Fjordland  is a meticulously crafted slice of summery House. Amongst the reMixes of Bittersweet come a couple of tracks from two of our favourites these days. London based French ElectroPoppers The Penelopes and Germany’s finest Nu-Disco genius digitalfoxglove. The Penelopes take Bittersweet up a gear, mutating the laidback introspection into a Disco tinged SynthPop floorfiller. And if you need to chill after than, digitalfoxglove takes the track and does what he does best, blends it with his sweet poolside grooves. Bass heavy and sexy, digitalfoxglove’s reMix is a real late night jam.

Final DJs’ ‘No More Youth’

final_djs

No More Youth is the latest monster to come from the minds of Germany’s top SynthWave duo Final DJs. Spinning a little French Touch and Italo into the mix on this track, they’ve cooked up the prefect end to the summer.

No More Youth is shot though with a sense of slight sadness, and nostalgic longing, but that in no-way stops it from being a huge party tune. Final DJs work their synthesizer love to it’s fullest with lush retro chords, sparking melodies and an overall atmosphere of electronic bliss. Part beach, part galactic, Final DJs sound is now the epitome of the post-SynthWave Nu-Disco scene. Funkier than SnythWave, but more beautifully retro than Nu-Disco. They exist in just the right spot in-between.
