Little Boots’ ‘Headphones’

Little Boots

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to hear five or six new tracks from our reigning ElectroPop princess Little Boots’ forthcoming new album, and believe me they were all strong contenders for single material. At a guess though, I would say this track, ‘Headphones’ will be next up for single treatment, being premiered on Radio1 is a big of a giveaway.

Produced with New York’s Disco duo The Knocks, when she played it live Victoria explained that the song was about going to a disco only to find out the music is shit, sticking your headphones on and having a boogie in your own little world (which leads to awkward moments when the disco music stops). To be honest, after a couple of amazing, but pretty underground singles, this is the track that is going to propel Boots back into the public consciousness. Classic DiscoPop and just shows victoria;’s talent for straddling the underground dance/shiny Pop line with ease, something now many can accomplish. This summer she’ll have us all singling!

‘Headphones’ will, we presume, be out soon. It’ll be interesting to see who is up for reMix duties.

Dizkopolis reMixes Pastel Lite

pastel lite

Our favourite Malaysian Disco Dudes, Dizkopolis, are getting their big room sound back-on for this new reMix for fellow Kuala Lumpur based ElectroPop duo Pastel Lite’s ‘Assassin’. It’s only been a couple of month since we last heard from Dizkopolis, but it always leaves us eager for more.

The duo’s take on ‘Assassin’ brings their big retro synths and Nu-Disco grooves to the track. The original is a catchy, slightly musically abrasive noisy ElectroPop track and Dizkopolis smooth it out a little. Keeping Eff Hakim’s sultry, jazzy vocal intact and applying it to liberal helpings of lush, nostalgic synth work and digital slap bass. Dizkopolis have a knack for melding the sweet vintage sounds of SynthWave with the more broken dancefloor vibe of cut-up Nu-Disco and with the reMix they marry the two perfectly with a really emotive voice.

Van She reMixed by Hervé

vanshe

Van She’s ‘Idea Of Happiness’ was finally released this week and alongside the awesome original and the kicking SebastiAn reMixes we’ve already heard sits this Rave monster from Hervé. A surprising standout on the single, the reMix is bally, Acidic, in-you-face and bass bass bass heavy.

‘Idea Of Happiness’ looks set to become the anthem of the summer, an amazing comeback for Van She, and between the Indie-ElectroPop of the  original, the French Disco of SebastiAn’s mix and now Hervé’s big Bass track there is a reMix for every occasion. Hervé has dropped a tune that will be dominating festivals and big parties in the coming months. Keeping most of the track intact for the into, he then goes Rave crazy once the track kicks in with Acidic riffs and booming basses in a track that seems to constantly build.

The single is out now and features additional reMixes from SebastiAn, Jonti, Hervé, and What So Not. Van She’s new album will be out this 6th July on Modular Recordings.

Johan Agebjörn & Le Prix reMix Lindbergh Palace

Lindbergh Palace

Wow, we haven’t featured Brooklyn based ElectroPoppers Lindbergh Palace! Over a year in-fact, and coincidentally, the last time we wrote about the was about Fear of Tigers reMix of their track ‘Day’s Don’t Fade’, that was November 2010! That track is finally seeing release as part of the ‘Day’s Don’t Fade’ single alongside this storming mix from Sweden’s top-dogs Johan Agebjörn and Le Prix.

Johan and Le Prix’s version of the track is massive, big room, undulating mix. the duo lays thick that wonderful mixture of post-Italo groove, retro SynthWave and Sweden’s knack for perfect ElectroPop all rolled into one huge tune. Lush is the best word to describe this track, roomy, cosmic synths fill the track on top of the relentless Italo bassline, up[lifting the introspective SynthPop of the original into a fully fledged Dance classic. This is a reMix in return for Lindbergh Palace’s version of Johan Agebjörn & Le Prix’s ‘Watch The World Go By’, we’re really not sure who got the better end of the deal, maybe everyone’s a winner, especially us!

Hunt In Pairs’ ‘Prayers’ video

‘Prayers’ is the second track from Minimal Synth act Hunt In Pairs, it;s a moody, introspective, Indie-tinged electronic track with a suitably avant-garde video.

Put together by the band themselves and is simple but effective. Haunting and always visually interesting and works beautifully in synchronisation with the track.

Goin’ Old School: Cabaret Voltaire, Pet Shop Boys & Duran Duran

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

Up first today, the mighty Cabaret Voltaire with 1980’ ‘Nag Nag Nag’, laying foundation for all electronic music that came after it.

Late ‘80’s Pet Shop Boys now with ‘Domino Dancing’ from 1988, with that post-Italo NRG bassline.

Oh, go on then. Duran Duran’s ‘Rio’ from 1982.

Emeron & Fox’s début single

Emeron & Fox

‘Dopecity’ is the forthcoming new, and début, single from the awesome Emeron & Fox. Released via Silhouette Music later in the month. We’ve been keeping an eye on these guys for the last few months even since they came onto our radar so we definitely agree that it’s about time for this Brooklyn based duo to start properly releasing stuff and I can’t think of a better partnership that with Silhouette.

‘So what can we expect from ‘Dopecity’? It’s a pretty classic SynthPop track with slight Nu-Disco overtones. Based in bass, the track revolves around it’s undulating and buzzing bassline. Layered on top are some rich retro synths and some haunting female vocals that despite being layered and quite ethereal end up being surprisingly catchy. The track is a nice mix of retro and contemporary and a nice premiere single. reMixes come from The Legendary 1970 Orchestra, L’Equipe Du Son & Follow Me. L’Equipe Du Son’s take on the track  is a deep Disco groove with some nice House topping. Rocking the ring modulator L’Equipe Du Son created a humming synthetic Disco tune with slowly moves along it’s hypnotic vibe to a multi-layered finale. Follow Me’s mix is a sweet, light, SynthWave track that is uplifting and infectious. Full of Funk and sweeping retro synths I think this version is the standout for us.

Age Of Consent’s new video

London based retro ElectroPop outfit Age Of Consent’s new single ‘Heartbreak’ was released this week on their Bandcamp page for the cheap price of ‘whatever you want’.

It’s a stomping, powerful classic SynthPop track, check the video directed by Gareth Phillips for some retro video visual to go with that Depeche Mode/Nitzer Ebb pounding.

Aimes’ new single

Aimes

Yesterday Brooklyn based Indie-SynthWave artist Aimes released his new single ‘Step Away’. A slick Indie-Disco affair with reMix duties from  Chordashian.

‘Step Away’ is a nice mix of Indie and Disco with Aimes’ Chillwave leaning dreamy sheen. Funking slap bass and slick Disco licks play about amongst the lush retro synths with a restudy that it;s hard not to move to. Over the top of this is some surprising Bryan Ferry-esque vocals, sung with weird emphasis but perfectly fitting for the groove of the track. It’s one for lazy days in the city, in the sun. Chordashian’s reMix picks up the pace a little and aims the song squarely at late night dancefloors with a candy coating of the smoothest Disco, thick with cosmic sounds and vocoders a-plenty. The single is like the day and night of cool, this’ll be on repeat for a long time.

Soldout’s ‘Wazabi’

Slinky Belgian ElectroPop duo Soldout have just released their new single ‘Wazabi’. It’s a abrasive but catchy synthetic Pop track that was put together with some input from Richard 23, which kinda’ explains things.

Here’s the video, directed by Soldout, Amandine Klee and Frederic Lefevre, featuring distorted neon visuals. Distorted neon nicely sums up Soldout’s sound actually!

‘Wazabi’ is out now.
