‘Futurecop! The Movie’ approaches release

Futurecop!

As the release of Futurecop!’s new album ‘Futurecop! The Movie’ draws close, the guys have dropped another taste of what to expect.

The album is made up of mostly epic instrumentals, some new, some versions of Futurecop! tracks we all know and love. The new versions of existing tracks sound a bit beefed up and the album, across the board, sees Futurecop! expressing their Nu-Disco and Electro-House side. In contract to their recent ElectroPop singles and the amazingly Poppy, Japan only, album ‘It’s Forever, Kids’, this is classic Futurecop!, the meeting of dirty Electro and those ‘80’s soundtrack peices the hit you with a rush of emotion. Whether you look at this album as the soundtrack to the movie in Futurecop!’s head, or (finally!) a collection of Futurecop!’s works from the last few years, ‘Futurecop! The Movie’ just shows what a force of nature these two have been in retro synth music since 2008.

Futurecop! – Super Saiyan

‘Futurecop! The Movie’ is released 23rd January at futurecop.co.uk and everywhere else on the 24th via Keiz Beats.

We Are Russians!

WeAreRussians

We just commented last week about how much good stuff there is coming out of Russia these days, and to prove it website/label/community WeAreRussians have released a free compilation of Russian electronic artists.

The whole eighteen track album is top quality, practically every track is a winner and whilst the collection keeps quite a retro synth feel is spans quite a few styles. Lovinsky, represented here both alone and partnered with Quasars and Sohight are all artists we’ve featured before, highlighting their slick Dreamwave and Nu-Disco sounds and they sit on the album alongside new-to-us acts like Ziroberto and Valotihkuu who bring a more Funky side and some soundtrack atmospheres respectively. From these SynthWave sounds to epic Electro-House and introspective Indie-Electro WeAreRussians volume one just reinforces out opinion that Russia is definitely one of the places to look to for the next big synth acts.

Lovinsky – Dreamcatcher

Quasars And Lovinsky – Made In The 80’s

Sohight – Boys (Original Mix)

Ziroberto – The Future

Valotihkuu – Travelling

You can download the whole album on WeAreRussians’ SoundCloud.

Young Empires reMixed by ¡borracho!

Young Empires ‘Exit Through The Sun’ is the tune to reMix of the moment, so your version has to be something special to stand out from the crowd. ¡borracho! new mix does just that.

Rocking an amazingly infectious digital slap bassline at it’s core, this reMix is a melting pot of melodies and riffs that might not have worked together, but in ¡borracho! skilful hands the whole track flows together effortlessly. It’s quite an abrasive track, which is odd considering the tunefulness of it’s composite parts, but this just adds to the driving energy of the tune. This is a track for late night darkened dancefloors.

Oliver’s new EP

oliver

Oliver (A.K.A.  Oliver ‘Oligee’ Goldstein and Vaughn ‘U-Tern’ Oliver are back, fresh from their placing in our top reMixes of the year with a brand new EP for Kitsuné Music.

The move to Kitsuné sees them, appropriately, mixing a little dirty Euro House into their Nu-Disco and Dreamwave sound to produce a massive club anthem that is sure to explode this month. reMixes come from Punks Jump Up with a synthetic Funk mix full of robotic synths and mechanical beats and Kris Menace’s Black Van project, who turn in an unsurprisingly big room version led by a twisting bright lead line. The other original track on the EP, ‘Walk With Me’ closes the record with Oliver’s LA Disco roots in full effect and a summertime vibe.

The electronic rumors Awards: BEST REMIX – electronic rumors’ top 20 reMixes of 2011!!!

2011Best Remix

Let’s kick things off with one of the biggies. Best reMix.

Compiling 03-20 was tough, this year has been amazing for reMixes, it seems like every release in 2011 came loaded with quality versions. There were so many singles released this year that it was nearly impossible to choose your favourite mix off of. As ever, I’m sure there are tracks we have forgotten, and tracks we will be kicking ourselves for not including when they are pointed out to us, and tracks we will remember tomorrow.

The winner though, and the runner up, were always destined for the top slots from the moment they dropped. In the first half of 2011 I would have said that Ride The Universe’s reMix of Chromeo’s ‘Hot Mess’ was definitely going to be number one, and that was only very closely snatched away when Madonna Of The Midlands™ Ronika released ‘Only Only’ complete with Fear Of Tigers take on the track. Both mixes are jaw-droopingly good, light years ahead of the competition, with Fear Of Tigers just taking the top spot with nostalgia points for weaving elements of late ‘80’s Dance Music into it’s Electro tapestry and making us go all glassy eyed. Combining a Bomb The Bass vibe with contemporary ElectroPop and Nu-Disco, Fear Of Tigers created a vibrant, exciting, make-you-jump-out-of-your-seat track for Ronika’s get-down vocals, it’s the prefect package. While Ride The Universe’s talk-box Funk was my hottest track for most of the year. Innovative and fresh, their reMix of ‘Hot Mess’ is easily the best out there.

Little Boots’ ‘I Wish’

Little-Boots

More new Little Boots! Débuting on Radio 1 last week this track from her forthcoming new album see her teaming up with Electro-House producer Michael Woods.

‘I Wish’ is probably the closest thing to a ‘bang0r’ that Boots has ever done. this is a track aimed purely at peak time, big room dancefloors rather than the charts.  Pumping Ibiza stings and Victoria’s anthemic sing-along chorus  in combination make this a sure fire summer hit for 2012/ Rousing and uplifting, with just the slightest hint of melancholy to the vocals, this is one to drop when the floor is full.

Overthrill’s ‘Disco Music’

overthrill

German dancefloor rocker Overthrill has dropped something a bit special to keep you moving during the holidays.

‘Disco Music’, pull in DNA from the high points of Daft Punk and Justice’s careers and wraps them up in Overthrill’s own unique take on Electro and Nu-Disco. Driven by a juggernaut funk bassline and sweet melodic vocoding ‘Disco Music’ maybe the spiritual successor to ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger’ but Overthrill has created a tune to keep the dancefloor jumping on it’s own merit.

M83 reMixed by Who Killed JR?

m83

A brief glance at SoundCloud will reveal that the world is flooded with shitty reMixes of M83’s ‘Midnight City’ that’s don’t really do anything and are just uninspired ‘producers’ trying to latch onto the latest buzz track. …Who Killed JR?, however, totally nail it!

The South African producer adds just the right amount of dancefloor energy into the tune, keeping enough of the original to make it recognisable but cutting and pasting it in interesting ways and adding his own layer of melody, finding the prefect balance between the original and making it his own. This mix would go down a storm at peak time, with the instantly identifiable riff of the original and a whole new level of groove.

The Good Natured reMixed by Adrian Lux

goodnatured2

Almost as a companion peice to Adrian Lux’s ‘Alive’ featuring The Good Natured, here he is reMixing The Good Natured’s new single ‘Video Voyeur’.

It’s got all the elements we loved about ‘Alive’, Sarah’s unique vocals seeming to add a new dimension to Lux’s Electro-House sounds, which would normally come across full of cheese. Here he get’s even more full-on Ibiza, and whilst not quite ad good as their previous collaboration, Lux’s rEMix of ‘Video Voyeur’ is still a big, confusing but wonderful, peak time tune.
