MiGHty mOUse reMixes Madonna

Madonna

We’ve been waiting for this one ever since MiGHty mOUse hinted about it on Twitter last week. The man has turned his not inconsiderable talent to reworking Madonna’s 1984 classic Like A Virgin. Remix Madonna’s 80s output tends to be a bit hit or miss, but we’ve had high hopes for MM’s take on the track, and we haven’t been disappointed.

What we are treated to is an upbeat slice of cosmic House. MiGHty mOUse works this staccato electric piano riff throughout the track that really is the tunes core. Playing off the bassline, this hook brings a total party vibe, with a hint of 90s nostalgia, and seems to work perfectly with Madge’s vocals. the track itself follows MiGHty mOUse’s evolution from spacey Disco into something a bit more Housey and complex, there’s a blissed out synth bridge about two thirds along that you could get lost in.  Drop this on unexciting revellers and watch it tear up the dancefloor. I think I’ve found a replacement for MiGHty mOUse’s Kate Bush reMix!

Cassette Club’s ‘Flash’ reMixes

cassette club

London ElectroPop duo’s Cassette Club recent Flash single, out now on Modal, is still riding high on various music outlets sales charts. The guys have been in a giving mood recently, with their free EP of unreleased material, and that giving mood continues with two brand new reMixes of Flash for the noting-at-all-really- price of £1.

First up to have their way with Flash is LA based Dreamwave duo D.A.R.E. whose Disco influended sunshine ElectroPop melds perfectly into Cassette Clubs’ sound turning Flash into a laid back beach-party jam that has a gentle melody that washed the track like waves lapping at your toes. But D.A.R.E.’s smooth LA Funk influenced groove is only one half of this package. On the flip-side the amazingly named The Found New Hardware Wizard bring an almost late 90s Trance vibe to the table. Their reMix of Flash is full-on hands-in-the-air stuff and whilst the big Trance leads sound a little dated the tracks huge lead line more than makes up for it. We’re so glad that Cassette Club seem to be on a roll these days. Bring on the CC juggernaut!

Sally Shapiro’s new single

Sally Shapiro

Well this has slipped out a bit unnoticed. We would have though their received, or deserved, a bit more fanfare but it appears to just be ‘there’. It;s the forthcoming new single from amazing Swedish ElectroPop act Sally Shapiro. The titular Sally and Mr. Johan Agebjörn have been doing their studio thing again and come up with a dreamy piece of Pop gold.

What Can I Do? has a distinctly 60s feel to it, mixed up in Agebjörn’s ElectroPop and a little Indie guitar. It’s a sound we weren’t expecting from these two, but it’s both refreshing and very easy on the ears. Shapiro’s understated vocal performance is just a pleasure to listen to, and the whole thing ends up sounding a bit Saint Etienne, bit slightly more contemporary. This is our pleasant surprise of the week.

Aeroplane

Aeroplane is shifting things into full steam ahead mode with his new label AeroPop. Finally, this week, the imprints inguinal release dropped, it’s a tune from Vito himself with Chicago House legend Jamie Principle on vocal duties.

In Her Eyes is perfect DiscoPop, loaded to bursting point with funky basslines, twisting leads and a smooth, catchy vocal. Amongst a star studded reMix package featuring an inescapable amazing Disco tinged House mix  from Tiger & Woods and work from Chopstick & Johnjon, sits this storming version from Mr. Louis La Roché. Probably the single’s standout reMix, Louis delivers a gritty Electro Disco with a soulful synth melody that soars above the track. Definitely the most uplifting tune of the package. In addition AeroPop are giving away this mix of the tune from Aussie Housemeister BeNi, who offers up a full-on House stompfest. Deep and irresistible.

Moullinex reMixes Sohight & Cheevy

sohight-cheevy_thumb

We introduced you last week to Russian funketeers Sohight & Cheevy’s new single, Travel Anthem. Well it was released yesterday on On The Fruit Records and came loaded with this hypnotic reMix from Nu-Disco genius Moullinex.

Moullinex’s take on Travel Anthem rides on an infectious bassline that is just funky enough to stick in your head but not so frantic that it overpowers the tune. Using an catchy piano riff and interesting use of the vocals Moullinex has crafted a track that you can loose yourself in. the rest of the tune is made up of Moullinex’s quirky Disco sense of humour, all plopping and pinging percussion. More cowbell anyone?

Flight Facilities’ ‘Clair De Lune’

flight-facilities

Aussie DiscoPop duo Flight Facilities really do take their time over their releases, and this is a good thing. Unlike many of their contemporaries who are happy to drop release after release, these guys put stuff out when they are good and ready, when things are perfect for them. So here’s their new single, Clair De Lune, featuring Brooklyn based singer Christine Hoberg on vocals, and you can tell they certainly took their time on it.

A departure from their usual vintage sampling Disco, Clair De Lune is a rich slice of Folktronica. A beautiful soundscape that clocks in at just under eight minutes. The track balances an ominous, enigmatic backing, thick with pulsating synths with playful acoustic guitar and Christine Hoberg’s introspective vocal. Not exactly what you were expecting from Flight Facilities? Maybe not, but definitely a direction we;’d like to see them exploring more.

Cinnamon Chasers’ ‘Dreams & Machines’ album

Cinnamon Chasers

To those in the know, those who really follow Dreamwave, or Nu-Disco, or SynthWave, or whatever we are calling it this month, London’s Cinnamon Chasers has long been a name associated with some of the best synth music around. After he released his amazing début A Million Miles From Home in 2009 he came to most people attention with the massive Luv Deluxe (alongside a slick video from Francis Pollara who went on to direct Russ Chimes’ Midnight Club trilogy). Luv Deluxe was huge, and set the stage for Cinnamon Chasers second album, Science, which cemented Russ Davies reputation for emotional and beautiful synth music with all the groove of Nu-Disco and all the emotional resonance of Jean Michel-Jarre or Vangelis.

So here we are as Cinnamon Chasers is gearing up for the release of his third full length record later this month. Dreams & Machines its the logical next step for CC, it’s got that spacey, cosmic Disco feel alongside the blissful Balearic keys that so encapsulate Cinnamon Chasers sound, but here there’s an underlying current of early 90s House, a warehouse Rave feeling that pushed Davies’ music one step further. The album kicks off with the title track (which we heard a couple of months ago), and Dreams & Machines sums it, and the whole release, up nicely. The meeting of pounding Disco beats and hazy synths & vocoded vocals leys the groundwork for the rest of the record. As we go into Watch The World Burn we start to pick up on some of those House influences with a stabbing organ line set against the warping galactic synths. Throughout the album the tracks maintain that perfect balance of infectious dancefloor grooves and transcendent smokey synths. highlights, for us, have to include the 21st century BladeRunner Italo-Electro of Hyperwaves, Flash Gun’s introspective Vocoder-Pop and Retrocop, which consummately appeals to our love of Italo and B-Boy Electro, it’s an instant Boogie classic with a Piano House twist. Dreams & Machines is yet another almost flawless release from Cinnamon Chasers, the textbook album for lovers of either retro Disco music or synthesizer tunes in general. Not many capture the emotionality of electronic music without sacrificing and of it;s dancefloor dive, but Cinnamon Chasers has done it again.

Goldroom reMixed by Final DJs

Goldroom

LA smoothmeister Goldroom’s single before his last single, the Chella featuring Fifteen, was a reMixers dream. Chella’s nostalgic, passionate vocal is like a gift to a talented producer. So, unaspiringly the track has been reMixed by everyone under the sun. Is there room for one more? Well, there is if it is Germany’s Final DJs taking you on a slow-mo SynthWave oddessy. Eight minutes of synth bliss to follow.

Yes, we said eight minutes! Final DJs reMix is a epic tune that reins in the tempo compared to their usual output allowing the song to breathe. Pinned on an head nodding digital slap bassline, the track takes it’s great length to evolve throughout.  Starting off with a relaxed beach vibe, Final DJs slowly add more and more elements associated with their traditional SynthWave tunes, playing off and around that Tropical Disco vibe to create something greater than the sum of tis parts. Just let yourself sink into the groove.

Chordashian reMixes Touch Tone

We knew it was only a matter of time before we started to hear some reMixes of Dreamwave Original Gangster Touch Tone awesome Make Believe. Make Believe is Touch Tone’s second single under this new moniker and both his track have been in demand for reMixers, once you’ve heard his big, anthemic, DiscoPop you’ll understand why. So, stepping up this time is a duo who have been around for a while, but recently joined the Binary fold, Chordashian.

The Brooklyn duo whip up a nice mix of beach Disco and piano House for their taken on the tune. Alex from LexiconDon’s vocals sound comfortable amidst the stuttering snares and late night House vibe. Chordashian have managed to deliver a reMix that is both extremely dancefloor friendly, but quite musically interesting too, and retaining all the the originals soul.
