Miike Snow’s ‘Paddling Out’

miike-snow

Miike Snow have given us a second taste of what to expect from their forthcoming new album.

‘Paddling Out’ is rough and ready sing-a-long, piano led ElectroPop. It’s like ElectroPop got drunk and lost it’s inhibitions at an early ‘90’s House club. I’m feeling this one a lot more than the Swedish trio’s previous new track, ‘Devil’s Work’. Catchy as hell, ‘Paddling Out’ just makes you want to jump up.

MNDR’s ‘#1 In Heaven’; the video

We posted MNDR’s new single, ‘#1 In Heaven’, on Tuesday when it dropped and it’s been on repeat ever since.

It’s already got itself a video that sees Amanda is full on ‘80’s Pop star mode, sans giant glasses!

‘#1 In Heaven’ is out now with MNDR’s full length album due out this summer, both on Ultra.

MNDR’s ‘#1 In Heaven’

mndr

MNDR’s new single is really good! No two ways about it!

Released today, ‘#1 In Heaven’ is catchy, rousing, SynthPop with MNRD’s unique Indie-Electro edge. It’s like a fine wine that hits you with different elements. When I listen to it I get hits of mid-‘80’s Depeche Mode, late ‘80’s Indie songwriting and contemporary Electro, all packaged up with Amanda Warner and Peter Wade’s particular sound. It’s got both classic anthemic quality and a rough ‘n’ ready rawness to it that will have it sticking in your head. We really liked MNDR anyway, but this track has us gagging for the album.

New Order edited by Mirror People

New Order

New Order’s ‘5 8 6 ’, form 1983,  was a prime example of the bands early experiments with synths being at the forefront of their music. Having just discovered Disco many of the tracks on the ‘Power, Corruption & Lies’ album have a dance groove, but not all of them would stand up on todays dancefloors, including ‘5 8 6’…Mirror People thought he’d see to that.

Mirror People’s edit of ‘5 8 6’ gives the track a new burst of raw energy. Emphasising the kick and some of the synths, and adding a few stabs here and there, the changes are quite subtle, but make all the difference in the mix.

New Order – 5 8 6 (Mirror People Edit)

‘5 8 6’ is taken from New Order’s 1983 album, ‘Power, Corruption & Lies’.

Mausi

Mausi

Mausi are a Newcastle based four peice who are about to release their début single. The Disco tinged IndiePop of ‘Sol.’.

The tracks been around for a while now but has just been picked up for release in February. It’s got a nice summery Pop feel that owes much to the likes of Passion Pit but with more of a beach party Disco vibe to it. It’s probably the most straight-up Indie thing we’ve featured in a while but they’ve got enough of a French Indie-Electro groove going on that some of you might be into it, we are.

Mausi – Sol.

‘Sol.’ is released 20th February.

Miami Horror reMixed by Lenno & Jesse Oliver

miami-horror

producer Lenno is fast becoming a name to watch with a string of amazing reMixes. This time he’s teamed up with Jesse Oliver to rework Miami Horror’s hit of last year, ‘Holidays’.

It’s a rapid fire bassline that keeps this tune pumping. Bright retro synths stab away at the tune but the machine bass never falters from it’s course and lends the tune a slight Italo flavour. Leno and Jesse Oliver have crafter a really nice Dreamwavey update to the song, keeping the Indie-Electro feel to the vocals but bringing them straight to an electronic dancefloor.

Charleston

Charleston

Charleston are a London based three-peice who are drawing in a range of eclectic influences for their moody début single, released next month.

If ‘Peice By Peice’ is an introduction to Charleston’s sound, then they will definitely be a group to keep an ear on in the coming year. Initial comparisons, both musically and vocally, would be to Portishead, but there is something more contemporary going on here too. ‘Peice By Peice’ is a deep, soulful tune that has it’s roots in Trip-Hop but displays a more experimental attitude, even including elements of Dubstep and ChipTune in the mix to create something that, despite it’s low groove, is pretty majestic sounding. The smokey, sultry vocals don’t hurt either.

‘Piece By Piece’ is released 6th February via Good Bait.

New EP from Pinemarten

pinemarten

Hot on the heels of his début album, ‘If You Thought There Was Any Doubt’, Derbyshire based producer Pinemarten has dropped another EP of mellow synth jams,

The ‘Here It Is’ EP contains three tracks of dreamlike electronic soundscapes and distant, hazy vocals. Pinemarten conjures up feelings of sunsets and lazy summer nights as he skilfully layers shimmering synths. Three prefect chilled tunes for the morning after.

We Are Russians!

WeAreRussians

We just commented last week about how much good stuff there is coming out of Russia these days, and to prove it website/label/community WeAreRussians have released a free compilation of Russian electronic artists.

The whole eighteen track album is top quality, practically every track is a winner and whilst the collection keeps quite a retro synth feel is spans quite a few styles. Lovinsky, represented here both alone and partnered with Quasars and Sohight are all artists we’ve featured before, highlighting their slick Dreamwave and Nu-Disco sounds and they sit on the album alongside new-to-us acts like Ziroberto and Valotihkuu who bring a more Funky side and some soundtrack atmospheres respectively. From these SynthWave sounds to epic Electro-House and introspective Indie-Electro WeAreRussians volume one just reinforces out opinion that Russia is definitely one of the places to look to for the next big synth acts.

Lovinsky – Dreamcatcher

Quasars And Lovinsky – Made In The 80’s

Sohight – Boys (Original Mix)

Ziroberto – The Future

Valotihkuu – Travelling

You can download the whole album on WeAreRussians’ SoundCloud.

Young Empires reMixed by ¡borracho!

Young Empires ‘Exit Through The Sun’ is the tune to reMix of the moment, so your version has to be something special to stand out from the crowd. ¡borracho! new mix does just that.

Rocking an amazingly infectious digital slap bassline at it’s core, this reMix is a melting pot of melodies and riffs that might not have worked together, but in ¡borracho! skilful hands the whole track flows together effortlessly. It’s quite an abrasive track, which is odd considering the tunefulness of it’s composite parts, but this just adds to the driving energy of the tune. This is a track for late night darkened dancefloors.
