Lightwaves & Channel Swimmer reMix Mausi

Mausi

Remember a few weeks ago we posted about the new single from Newcastle IndiePop act Mausi, ‘Sol.’? Well, not the reMixes have hit, and they’re pretty special.

Ex-Yes Giantess main man Jan’s, under his new Lightwaves moniker, turns in an unsurprisingly awesome ElectroPop mix aimed straight at the dancefloor. Loaded with perfect synth melodies playing against a House piano riff and some big room beats, this is the second dancefloor destroying mix Lightwaves has dropped in as many weeks, looks like it’s going to be his year.  UK producer Channel Swimmer takes the tracks in a totally different direction with some smooth Funk influenced Chillwavey, reverb washed, niceness that soon evolves into a laid back summer Indie hit.

Miike Snow & Lykke Li

Miike Snow

Do you get the feeling that Miike Snow are pulling a Baby Monster and streaming the whole new album in the weeks running up to it’s release? Three tracks in two weeks?

Anyway, this ones a bit different, ‘Black Tin Box’ features Lykke Li, who you know we love a bit of, and it’s not a upbeat Indie-Electro track. What it is though, is a pretty powerful, brooding slice of dark ElectroPop with hints of The Knife. Although Lykke is painfully underused ‘Black Tin Box’ is a nice example of icy Scandinavian Pop.

Miike Snow’s new album, ‘Happy To You’, is due for release in March 2012.

Flashlights’ new single

Flashlights

Fresh from their critically acclaimed ‘Hidden Behind Trees’ EP for Binary, Denver Synth outfit Flashlights are back with a new single, ‘Fireworks’.

Injecting a little more ElectroPop into their dreamtime synth sound with ‘Fireworks’, Flashlights combine an ‘80’s Indie vocal with layers of crisp electronics for a sound more inclined to the upbeat and catchy, as we first heard with “’New Hampshire II’. It’s a nice direction for Flashlights to be going in, with something about it that recalls mid-‘80’s British Indie as well as the melodic ElectroPop at it’s core. It’s catchy as hell too!

‘Fireworks’ is taken from the  EP ‘So Close To Midnight’, released soon.

Goldroom’s ‘Angeles’

Goldroom

Yesterday Goldroom, known to the rest of us as one of Binary’s head-honchos Josh Legg, released his début EP.

Leading the EP is new track ‘Angels’, a supremely laid back track with a tropical Disco feel. The percussion alone is something to make you sit up. Making some brave sonic moves within Disco, Josh makes each one of them pay off by creating a chilled beach-party groove with a live quality that’s not so easy for an electronic musician to capture. Layer that with Josh’s vocals, which he always layers thick to create really sweeping harmonies, and you’ve got a track which I imagine, completely personifies the ideal of it’s subject matter.

Metronomy Vs. Le Crayon & Oxford

metronomy

Le Crayon & Oxford, two top quality Nu-Disco producers in their own right, join forces to take on the Indie-Electro powerhouse that is Metronomy. The results are funking good.

This twosome lay down an easy groove which gives the , now instantly recognisable, tune a new spin. With sidechaned pumping French House and slick Disco licks set to a relaxed tempo Le Crayon & Oxford deliver a song to allow you to take a step back from all your stresses. You thought ‘Heartbreaker’ was played out? here’s a new lease of life.

I Am Noxious’ new single

iamnoxious

It’s been ages since we’ve heard from Bedroom Pop artist I Am Noxious, like seriously years.

But he;s back with a new single, a re-recorded and produced track you may have heard before (we first posted it about this time last year). The new production and professional polish has, thankfully, not stripped Mr. T of his quirky introspective sound. ‘Stranded On Love’ is a cute, catchy tune that sounds pretty slick whist keeping to I Am Noxious’s Bedroom Pop roots. Despite the undercurrent of melancholy, I Am Noxious’ tracks always manage to cheer us up, so ‘Stranded On Love’ is a welcome start to a long week.

Work Drugs reMixed by Selebrities & Southern Shores

Basic RGB

Cascine, doing it again! This time they present Work Drugs’ Ice Warf’ a song that joins the growing list of songs in the last three years written about places I used to live just around the corner from, in this case the Ice Warf in Camden. Not sure why you’d want to write a song about a Wetherspoon’s, but the track is generally about getting drunk in Camden and mentions a few other places anyway. No Dublin Castle though?

Anyhoo, Cascine have got two of their finest acts on reMix duties. Kicking off with Selebrities who’s lush ‘80’s Pop version is the stand out for me. Their dreamy synths and raw beats capture my interpretation of the song perfectly. Southern Shores go in a slightly more Balearic direction with an ‘90’s House meets Chillwave sound.

Kids On Bridges’ ‘Check Your Head’

kids on bridges

February sees the release of, North West of England based, Kids On Bridges’ new double A-side single ‘This Is Widescreen’/’Check Your Head’.

The first track ‘This Is Widescreen’, is a little bland and uninspired. The flip side, however, ‘Check Your Head’ is awesome! A bombastic chunk of filtered DiscoPop that draws from everything from Indie-Electro to French Touch and really works those Disco strings to their fullest effect. Part Electro-Rock part Nu-Disco, it’s a heady combination that also has a raw, live, anthemic quality to it. Hopefully the guys will push themselves with this side of the single.
