[Audio] Katy B’s ‘5am’ reMixed by Route94

There’s was a lot is speculation as to just who Route94 is. It was apparently a well known Dubstep producer’s House alter-ego, names like Skream and Boddika were tossed around in the past twelve months until it turned out to be Dream, now gone full time as Route94. His latest tune is this storming reMix of Katy B’s infectious new single, 5am.

Reining the energy levels in a little, Route94 takes the tune in a deep and hypnotic direction. With a smooth UK House groove and a shuffling Garage-y beat at it’s core, the track serves up playful synths and ominous basslines as a new futuristic, dystopian, backing for Katy B instantly catchy vocals. We were a bit worried about reMixes of this track not being able to live up to the original, but Route94 has put our fears to rest.

[Video] Little Boots’ ‘Shake’

It never really occurred to us that Little Boots’ first post-Hands single, Shake (nearly two years old now) never had a video. Well, better late than never, and now that the awesome Nocturnes album is out in the wild it makes sense to draw attention to one of it;s finest tracks.

The clip is part dance audition, part Robot Wars, and robots make anything at least 80% better.

[Audio] Bright Light Bright Light’s ‘In Your Care’

Phase two Bright Light Bright Light material is coming thick and fast now. Only recently we were treated to An Open Heart, taken from the SynthPop rising star’s first post-début album EP, In Your Care. Now we can have a listen to the EP’s title track, due out next month. This might be our favourite track from the EP so far.

Co-produced by The Invisible Men, In Your Care is both a classy and classic slice of ElectroPop goodness. Resonant with an emotional heart, In Your Care layers an anthemic, passionate vocal performance over a solid dancefloor core. There’s been a piano version of this tune knocking around for a while now, but paired up with warping synths and a relentless kick, In Your Care released a whole new energy. [Audio] Tom Aspaul’s ‘Indiana’

This is Tom Aspaul. According to his bio he’s a singer, songwriter, Virgo and in London. Now you’re well acquainted we can let you know that that Tom Aspaul’s Indiana is the inaugural release on Little Boots’ On Repeat Records. The track was produced by R&B tinged House producer MENK and was released today alongside a reMix from FTSE.

Indiana is a pretty classy slice of soulful Electronic Pop. Rolling on a dance beat with a healthy sing to it, the track is thick with arpeggios and vocal harmonies. The bright clean synth sound doesn’t cling to any particular genre, more delivering a classic slab of ElectroPop that will no doubt prove to be timeless. Slight hints of a Tropical vibe, alongside Aspaul’s optimistic vocals, lend the tune a summery feel. All-in-all it’s a might fine piece of SynthPop, a confident début both for Aspaul and for On Repeat Records. There’s only one tiny problem with this otherwise excellent slice of Pop. The vocals are a little too AutoTuned. Either Mr. Aspaul has got serious vocal correction needs or the vocal producer doesn’t really get how to use AutoTune, either as a studio tool or an effect. It’s a small issue though and no where near annoying enough to dilute enjoyment of the track.

[Download] Shit Hot SoundSystem edits Madonna’s ‘Material Girl’

London based Nu-Disco producer Shit Hot SoundSystem has been pumping out a truck load of awesome edits recently. Proper edits too, not reMixes titled as edits but not virtually unchanged tracks either. SHS’s edits stay true to the concept of an edit; remaining true to the original track but cutting the dead wood and enhancing what works on the dancefloor, from a DJs perspective. In this spirit his latest work, an edit of Madonna’s 1985 classic Material Girl, does the job superbly.

Material Girl has got enough powerful hook and riffs to keep any DJ happy, and Shit Hot SoundSystem uses them to their fullest. Doubling down on the bass and drums, the track rumbles along in heavy style with the bassline and chorus lead riff, both instantly recognisable, taking centre stage. There’s enough vocals in here too for the sing-a-long crowd. It’s another quality edit from Shit Hot SoundSystem and a real middle-of-your-set secret weapon.

[Audio] I Am Noxious’ ‘Watch My Ship Go Down’

It’s been absolutely ages since we heard anything from Danish artist I Am Noxious. We honestly didn’t;t know is he was still in the business or not. His deeply introspective brand of Bedroom Pop has been with us almost since out inception, beck when Bedroom Pop was a recognized ‘thing’. So, it was a surprise to us when he delivered a brand new tune into our inbox, Watch My Ship Go Down. A tune with proves he’s lost none of his reflective flair, but adds a little bombast to the mix.

Listening to Watch My Ship Go Down you can quite easily slip back into the I Am Noxious groove. That comfortable, personal vibe given off by his music is still present in these new recordings. It’s a pensive track, resting on a combination of toytown beats and gently piano supported by swirls of vintage sounding synths. T’s vocals convey an intimate quality, as with the best Bedroom Pop, but Watch My Ship Go Down also has a surprisingly euphoric chorus up it’s sleeve. A great Monday morning track.

[Audio] David Bowie’s ‘Love Is Lost’ reMixed by LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy

Earlier this year David Bowie stunned and excited fans by releasing his first studio album in ten years. The Next Day dropped with no warning to immediate critical acclaim and Bowie fans worldwide going a little weak at the knees. Next month sees the release of The Next Day Extra, a three disc special edition of the album loaded with unreleased tracks and fresh reMixes. Included amongst the reMixes is this ten minute epic from DFA and LCD Soundsystem head honcho James Murphy.

Phased layers handclaps create the backing rhythm for this impressive musical journey. Very much a DFA track, yet still retaining a quintessential Bowie-ness, this reMix reminds us of how amazing Bowie songs can be when he is paired with something more electronic and experimental musically. Given it;s length, it;s no sunrise that that tune has room to breather, taking it’s time building it’s Cosmic, New York Disco, vibe. even taking time to side-line into Ashes To Ashes briefly.

[MP3] Pr0files’ ‘Call Yourself A Lover’

Pr0files is the new solo project from Baby Monster’s Danny Sternbaum. Baby Monster have been a fixture on electronic rumors since our beginning, despite their releases being a little too few and far between for our liking. Pr0files sees Sternbaum collaborating with long-time friend singer/keyboardist Lauren Pardini to produce some lush, swirling Dreampop. The two have worked together before in an outfit called The Boy Traveller, which featured Danny, Lauren and Skrillex (yup, apparently that was a thing that happened).

Their première track, Call Yourself A Lover, is a hazy, yet bombastic, slice of ElectroPop. With a orchestrated feel, builds itself around layers of luxurious synths that curl in and out of the track like smoke, washing the Trance-like apreggios and ElectroPop bassline in surges of dreamlike noise. Lauren’s vocal balances between ethereal and IndiePop cool, giving the track some grounding. This is one for the headphones, let it sweep you away.

[Audio] Keljet & AVAN LAVA’s ‘Together’

The new single from Dutch duo Keljet, still riding high on the waves of their Love Of A Life single, sees the Disco dons teaming up with Brooklyn band AVAN LAVA for some seriously epic big room vibes. Released at the end of the month on Can You Feel It? Records, Together looks set to become a club anthem alongside reMixes from Oliver Nelson and René Amesz.

This one is all about the prefect harmony of Keljet’s big, thumping, beats and AVAN LAVA’s rousing vocals. Definitely bringing a hands-in-the-air quality to the track, the vocals are pure sing-a-long, fist pumping, fodder while Keljet’s slightly Cosmic main room Disco sound is as huge as ever. A quality combination of both acts going large and doing what they do best.
