[Audio] Jensen Sportag reMix Kisses

kisses_thumb_thumb

Nashville’s Chilly Electro Funk exports Jensen Sportag’s album should be out soon-ish. They are currently holed up in the studio putting the finished touches to the record. In the meantime you can tide yourself over with this reMix of awesome LA SynthPop duo Kisses track The Hardest Part, which is taken from their equally awesome forthcoming second album Kids In LA.

The Sportags bring a lush summer beach vibe to the track and instantly remind us of why we’re looking forward to their album so much. It’s nice mixture of playfulness and seriousness. With a tight cool-beans groove, loaded with synth Funk, underpinning the track, Kisses vocals are complimented by layers and layers of airy melodies and the smoothest of solos. The is late nights in the city music, a hot smokey atmosphere that is probably accompanied by some block typography and geometric graphic design.

[MP3] Earl Gray’s début EP (+ Thrillionaire reMix)

Earl Grey

I never know whether to spell grey, grey or gray. Is there a difference? I mention this purely so you’ll forgive me if I spell it wrong at any point in this post, as Danny Ashenden, better know as one half of The C90s, has chosen to spell it grey in the moniker of his new solo project, Earl Grey. We’ve already heard a few of his reMixes in the months just gone, but it’s high time we turned out attention to his début EP, released next week on La Belle, which we have been rocking to in the past couple of weeks.

The EP’s titled Not Everyone’s Cup Of Tea, which may be referencing Earl Grey’s departure from The C90s upbeat Disco sound into something a bit deeper, more thoughtful and, dare I say it, a little more avant-garde. But as you know this is a departure that is right up our street, so as Danny busts out the brooding space Italo and synthesizer prog. The EP kicks off with, we would say, it’s strongest track, Through The City. A track that blends SynthWave with the mood of Moroder’s more introspective material, vocoders and analog warblings blend together with rich chords to create an imposing, yet familiar, mood that flows into Jus Clap, a track with more House in it’s DNA. Jus Clap takes an intoxicating warehouse vibe to the extreme, slowing down the Chicago vibe until it’s utterly hypnotic. Regent’s Park’s blend of Tropical percussion and live electronics is nicely intersected with the occasional B-Boy beat in a track that calls to mind the freestyle synthesizer experimentalism of the early 80s. The EP plays out with it’s most accessible, and probably the most DJ friendly, tune Pong. Pong is an undulating slice of Cosmic Disco with hints on Minimal Synth and a sprinkling of House. Delivering a sound not dissimilar to Scandinavian Nu-Disco in it’s perfect blend of the galactic, and the very human. Pong balances icy tones with quirky, playful melodies creating something for your mind and your feet. Not Everyone’s Cup Of Tea is definitely worth investigation for pretty much anyone with an interest in electronic music.

While you’re here check out Earl Grey’s new reMix for LA’s Thrillionaire, and their single of last year, Wie Gehts? (a title that can’t help but remind us of GCSE German), for more of Danny’s warm, enveloping electronics. Folding the gently vocals into the track as another instrument, this reMix wraps the listener in waves of swirling, surprising, sounds.

Earlier this month we has a listen to the MiGHty mOUse reMix of the new single from Keljet featuring X Ambassadors. Now with a release date of the start of next month, via On The Fruit Records, it’s time to get our ears around the original version of the track, Love Of A Life.

Be prepared, because Love Of A Life is a huge slice of Tropical ElectroPop that’s so upbeat and energetic it’ll likely catch you off-guard. The Dutch Disco duo have whipped up one of the biggest sounding singles of the year so far. Loaded with pounding drums, a buzzsaw bassline and layers of floaty, almost Trance, leads, all topped off with some Balearic percussion and an anthemic vocal. This is a large sweeping track that is sure to take certain clubs by storm this summer.

[Audio] Final DJs’ new single

final-djs_thumb_thumb

Moonshine, from Germany’s finest Final DJs, is a track of theirs from last year which is now getting a full release this week courtesy of Pole Position Recordings out of Cardiff. You’ve read all about the smooth synth funk of the original before, so lets peep our beady eyes on a couple of the awesome reMixes that come bundled with Moonshine.

First up is the Dutch king of the Analog groove, Auxiliary Tha Masterfader. Aux delivers one of his trademark phat bassed jams. Big squelchy synths and vintage Disco grooves drive the track along until Aux is just about ready to drop some twisting solos on us. Playing with the originals solos Aux conjures up new melodic rhythms. Phunktastike’s contribution to the single takes the track down a more Disco-tinged House route. It’s feel good summery vibes all the way with this one, drop in a little laid back vocodering Like an updated Dreamwave vibe, this track merges a west coast nostalgic groove with a little Chicago feel. The single also comes equipped with a third reMix from Cram, it’s a package well worth picking up for some sunshine, or moonshine, vibes.

[Audio] Monsieur Adi reMixes Say Lou Lou

Say Lou Lou

We’ve been looking forward to this one. We twigged a few weeks ago that the amazing Monsieur Adi was reMixing the new single from Australian/Swedish sisters Say Lou Lou new single Julian. It’s a deep, emotional song, just the kind of thing that we imagined Adi could really get his teeth into, and he did, and here it is.

It’s actually quite old school Adi. A warm Dreamwavey Nu-Disco track, loaded with ElectroPop affectations. A big French Touch floorfiller, Adi plays with the mood of the track perfectly, giving it a dancey boost without loosing and if the tune’s inherent romanticism. Pulsing synthetic bass, effecting stabs and big airy pads mingle together and wisp around the vocals like smoke. Adi the producer of the moment, and in high demand, and this reMix shows just why. This is how you reMix for the dancefloor and stay classy.
