Edwin Van Cleef reMixes The Knocks

the knocks

It’s like The Knocks fortnight! Not only have they recently dropped their amazing reMix of Haim’s Forever and the release of their The Feeling EP, complete with a multitude of reMixes. One of the one we were most looking forward to was the work of Edwin Van Cleef, who whips up the title track into a deep and funky retro House track.

If you like you’re basslines Chicago flavoured and your dace tracks loaded with catchy refrains then you are in luck right here. Cleef delivers the EPs standout mix. Using the original’s anthemic vocal to it’s sing-a-long fullest this reMix pushes a severe level of energy and feel-good part vibes. It’s just a pity that the weather is starting to turn nasty, and this reMix is a month or so too late, to fully appreciate it’s summery charms.

Alex Metric & Punks Jump Up reMix St. Lucia

st-lucia_thumb

Hot on the heels of his reMix of Ellie Goulding’s new single Alex Metric drops yet another big floorfiller in the form of his take on Brooklyn ElectroPopper St. Lucia’s long awaited new single September. Also along for the ride is another reMix outfit of the moment, not sure when Punks Jump Up have time to sleep, but sometimes we are glad they don’t

More restrained than his Goulding reMix, Metric’s version of September is less dancefloor chaos, more easy-going party track. A squelchy, insanely infectious bass hook makes this track as a synthetic Disco heavyweight. whereas the Goulding mix was all about strobe light madness, here we get the groovier side of Metric. Even when it presents you with a big Rave build, it drops you right back in the robotic funk. Punks Jump Up inject a little bouncy fun into the track with their appropriately titled Funhouse mix. They have complimented their backing with a horn section providing a groovy little hook while big warp bass and Punks Jump Up’s trademark Acid building, burble away underneath select snatches of St. Lucia’s vocal.

The Presets’ ‘Pacifica’

The Presets

2007/08 was pretty much soundtracked by Australian ElectroPop duo The Presets. 2005’s Beams was impressive as hell, but with 2008’s Apocalypso they really hit their stride, both capturing and defining the mood at the time. Club dancefloors filled within the first couple of bars of a The Presets song and their live show what something really special. It’s been four years since Apocalypso. Music has moved on, the mood has moved on. Four years is a long time for their crown to be passed around. Now, with very little promotion (handled quite badly if you ask us) The Presets’ new album, Pacifica, is here and, despite mis-management of what should have been one of the electronic music events of the year, it’s everything we could have wished for and so much we couldn’t have imagined.

The first two single from the new album, Youth In Trouble, and Ghosts were surprising and unexpected. Youth In Trouble pounds onward with an ominous, Underworld-like, Acid groove and Ghosts has divided opinion with it’s Electro-sea-shanty call-to-arms. We loved both singles, but they weren’t The Presets most people were expecting. They are also the first two tracks on the album, and once you hit track three, Promises, all fears of an hour of introspective navel-gazing are laid to rest with a huge, very ‘80’s sounding ElectroPop tune, with an infectious chorus, that, basically, sees The Presets picking back up their crown going “oh, did I leave this here?”. From there on in Pacifica soars. No-one can mix musical experimentation and integrity, lyrical intelligence and poetry, and damn catchy Pop hooks quite like The Presets. The album effortlessly swings from the abrasive robo-Techno of the likes of Push and Fast Seconds to slick DiscoPop in the likes of Fall and the ‘90’s vocal House of Surrender. It;s on Adult’s Only that you really feel like you are back in the world of The Presets, a six minutes dark epic, deep and tribal with that evil The Presets sense of humour. We will admit to being worried about The Presets comeback, we didn’t need to be. Two of the best songwriters in the world are working in the field of eclectic, smart, electronic music. We should be really thankful for that. Essential.

Citizens! reMixed by Kitsuné’s Gildas

Citizens!

Fresh from premièring the video for the forthcoming re-release of London ElectroPop outfit Citizens!True Romance, we are treated to on of the reMixes of the track. This one comes from Kitsuné Music main man Gildas.

Despite the title, it was actually Cassian’s Torpical reMix of this track that featured on Gildas Kitsuné Club Night Mix #2 album. But whatever the title, this is one of the best mixes of the track we’ve heard so far. Gildas adds some really nice punchy bass and a thick dance beat. It works so well, and one of those track that builds and builds into a cosmic collision of Citizens!’ eclectic instrumentation and Gildas’ dancefloor nouse. Citizens! début album, Here We Are, drops later this year.

Worship’s ‘Horizon’ reMix EP

It’s that time again! Today ‘the ever-awesome Holographic People’ are putting out their next release, the long awaited collection of reMixes from the Swiss SynthWave producer Worship’s Horizon EP, and man have they brought together some serious talent for this package.

The reMix release kicks off with electronic wizard Steve Moore’s version of the original EP’s lead track Spiral End, which features the vocals of Ricco Vitali  from Cavaliers Of Fun. Moore takes the bares bones from the vocal track and whips them up into a deep warehouse groove. A hypnotic synth pulse that you could get totally lost in on the dancefloor. Freak You also tackles Spiral End, the Frenchman’s take on the track travels a different road. Freak You builds the tune into a powerful, driving SynthWave tune with piano House overtones and a creamy ElectroPop topping. The king of ‘80’s electronica, Mitch Murder, delivers his version of Horizon, taking his time with the track and working his synthesizer magic. He brings a smooth retro soundtrack vibe to the EP with shimmering melodies and roomy drum fills, layering the track with dramatic tones until bursting into a solo fuelled finale. Elsewhere on the EP you’ll find Finnish big room masters Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver get funky with Miles Inside, combining a low down House groove with lush emotive piano and abrasive, Acidic, synth lines for full on dancefloor intoxication. The EP also comes equipped with Tanz/Tanz’s dark club take on Spiral End. Another amazing release from both Worship and Holographic People.
