Clancy reMixes Little Dragon

Little Dragon

Break out the big synths, Clancy is back with a brand new, and deep as hell, reMix of Little Dragon’s Little Man. Rich has been working on it for a few months now, constantly tweaking like a mad musical professor, and now he’s ready to share it with the world. We’re definitely likes the progression Clancy is making as he glides from big beach-party Dreamwave tunes, to something a bit deeper, a bit more ‘90’s, as he hasn’t left behind his retro synth stylings, just folded them into a different sound, and the result is always rad.

This mix of Little Dragon rides on a deep hypnotic groove and mood setting organs. Yukimi’s vocals sound so much more soulful in Clancy’s hands, I’d even go so far as to say the beginning to take on an almost Gospel tone,  as he creates a gently building track, full of subtly increasing layers washing over a thick synth bassline. It’s a true rapturous House track.

L’Equipe Du Son’s new EP

L’Equipe Du Son

Dutch master of all things retro Electro, L’Equipe Du Son releases a new EP this week. It’s a collection of tracks from earlier in the year and serves to tide us over while we wait for the man’s second album, The Odyssey Project, to be released in December.

Indian Laserdisco is the title track of the EP, and it’s a massive mixture of early ‘90’s House and ‘80’s Electro Boogie. With an infectious hook and some huge, piecing synths, Indian Laserdisco places a House beat next to Electro Funk percussion and bassline with a House riff and choppy samples that will stick in your head. Magic Johnstien keeps the House vibe going with a relentless piano riff that revolves around the track and it’s Disco samples until it burns itself onto your brain. All-in-all more Housy than we are used to from L’Equipe Du Son, but additively funky nonetheless.

The New Sins’ ‘Don’t Break My Heart’

The New Sins

London outfit The New Sins newest release is dropped last month on Tigersushi, it’s a slick 80s DiscoPop tune that sees the duo of New Young Pony Club’s Lou Hayter and Nick Phillips taking on a UB40 classic and giving it a 303 based Boogie going over.

The New Sins’ version of Don’t Break My Heart glides out of the speakers like liquid audio. With a laid back, vintage, beat and a burbling Acid bassline underpinning the track, the silky pads and Lou’s sultry vocal shimmy across the tune with an effortless cool. Quite Minimal, but never sounding like it, this is smooth ElectroPop at it’s best. Add a few nice Dubby touched, a nod to UB40’s Reggae version and you’ve got a winner, even more so with the Dubbed out B-side version. Alongside finishing up The New Sins’ album, Lou has also embarked on another project, teaming up with AIR’s JB Dunckel called Tomorrow’s World, which should produce some exciting results.

Cordova’s ‘Paradigm’ released!

Cordova

Well, this kinda’ slipped out without telling anyone. I sort of think the label missed a trick here. One of the best loved Dreamwave tracks of recent years, Cordova’s Paradigm, has finally got an official release, with a bunch of reMixes in tow too, where was the fanfares? Where was the spotlight? Where was any promotion at all? It’s a pity, as Paradigm is a killer track !

Even by the time it hit the internet mid-last year it was already a year old, now over twelve months later it’s out , and sounding fresher than ever. Cordova is the meeting of U-Tern (Vaughn Oliver, making massive waves this year as one half of Oliver themed double act Oliver) and his buddy AJK, with Roxy on vocals, and Paradigm is so good it made it into the top five in our twenty best songs of 2011 and in our post on the track we used the words “fucking awesome”.  It’s a massive slice of Dreamwave boogie with husky vocals and Sci-Fi vocoding. Nearly two years after it’s creation it hold up and kicks it’s contemporaries arses! And now there’s reMixes too! Broke One gets a look in with a shuffling House mix that mixes a Chicago vibe with an almost UK Garage feel, keeping it smooth. British DJ Fingerman whips up something a little more synth Disco with his mix, pacing choppy synths against Tropical percussion for a funky, airy, groove. All that’s left to say is how glad we are that this if finally out, and how bewildered we are that the label decided not to tell anyone about it.

Russ Chimes reMixes Bastille

Bastille

The sounds of London based ElelectroPopper Bastille are making some serious waves, majestic and dramatic, yet pretty introspective they are the perfect fit for this post-TEED world. However, things get really interesting when you add a little of  Russ Chimes in the mix.

Flaws is Bastille’s signature tune, and it’s about to get re-released complete with reMix package. Headlining this is Mr. Chimes with a full-on Chicago House created from that dense production styles that we love about him so much. Rather than frantically throwing out whatever track they can knock together, every week, like most producers seem to have been bullied into doing these days, Chime’s tracks are few and far between. But you can see why, each tune is a labour of love, and obviously something that he has taken an immense amount of time and care over. The production alone, with so much going on, yet everything having room to breathe, must have taken ages. Let along the composition itself, a hyper House workout with an infectious bassline hook and complex intertwining melodies. just the right snatches of Bastille’s vocal have been used to give the track an anthemic quality. this one will be packing dancefloors for months to come.

Knightlife’s ‘Without Love’

knightlife

One of Australia’s most prolific Disco DJs Knightlife is about to drop his new single, once again on Cut Copy’s Cutters Records imprint. The brand new single, Without Love, is just the precursor to a new album, due next year, but does the job of getting us in the mood for more.

Italo and disco meet head-on on Without Love, with just a hint of early Acid House. Hitting both the soulful and electronic high points. An S’Express style roving Acid bassline underpins the track, proving that Acid is still funky, and provides a rock solid groove for the track to lay down it’s expansive, thick, DiscoPop sounds atop. With an infectious vocal hook, Without Love is easy to get drawn into, it’s Moroder-esque arpeggios and diva refrain in danger of becoming a modern dancefloor classic.

Fire Flowerz & NAPT

Fire Flowerz

Italian pedal-to-the-metal Disco duo Fire Flowerz are bringing their particular brand of abrasive, addictive, Electro Funk to MofoHIFI with the release of this collaboration with London’s own NAPT. Connect was release last week and is already gaining some serious plays.

Connect is for those who like their groove a little harder and their Disco a little more jackhammer than smooth. Fire Flowerz and NAPT handle the heavy hitting Funk with ease and never loose sight of the underlying boogie, always remembering to work slick synth solos and infectious Disco hooks into their full-on dancefloor madness. This is one to drop when the night is peaking, watch it fly!

Goin’ Old School: Electronic, Mantronix & Electribe 101

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

From 1989, Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr’s Electronic project, here’s featruing Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant with Getting Away With It….

Pretty much Mantronix’s best tune, 1987’s Who Is It? Here on The Tube, as there’s no video.

Here’s Electribe 101 & Bille Ray Martin’s 1988 début, Talking With Myself.
