[Audio] Paulie’s ‘Spread Love’

Paulie

Next week sees the release of the début solo record from Paulie. Paul Sidoli is one half of London-based Cosmic Disco pilots Cosmonauts and ever since he’s been sneaking out mixtapes under his own name we’ve been pretty eagerly awaiting the fruits of his solitary labour. Wrapping up both Cosmonauts space age style and a deep London club groove, Paulie presents his première record, Spread Love.

Spread Love certainly makes it’s mark, and is a confident début for Paulie. It’s a track that’s hard to ignore with it’s deep and compelling House bassline commanding the tune alongside a House/Disco hybrid beat. Spread Love takes it’s time to build up a solid groove, dropping little hints of Paulie’s galactic past into the House mix with popping Electro Toms and shuffling purcussion, all the while repeating the hypnotic Chicago style vocal hook. The track slowly whips the listeners up into a frenzy before dropping the goods about the halfway point and unleashing mesmerising dancefloor euphoria. This is one the coolest kids will be swaying to in the darkest corners of the hippest venues this summer. The single comes correct with two reMixes, a deep groove from Rambla Boys and a shockingly good, upbeat, New York Disco style version from Bath’s finest Holmes Price. Check it out next week.

[Audio] Xinobi’s ‘Puma’

Xinobi_Discotexa_9690 copy_low

The mighty Discotexas are gearing up for the release of the new single from label staple and Nu-Disco legend Xinobi. Hitting the spot for s summer club hit, Puma, and it’s B-Side Woods, seem to be pretty sure-fire weapons for festivals and dimly lit dancing holes over the coming months.

Puma is a deep deep House tune that revolves around a transfixing organ hook. Adding a dubby influence to proceedings, Xinobi litters the House grove with spacey piano stabs and and an enigmatic vocal sample. This is definitely a tune to get wrapped up in, all encompassing, Puma delivers mainlined clubbing gold. It’s B-Side, Woods, is a bit more funky, with a bit more of that classic Xinobi swing. Built around an undulating synth bass riff, Woods draws you in to it’s atmospheric tribal ritual with a succession of ethereal tones and samples. Expect to be hearing these two on the dancefloor soon.

[MP3] Bestrack reMixes M.I.A.

M.I.A.

This is pretty epic. reMixes of M.I.A. tend to miss the mark a lot, but when they are done right they really work. This one works better than most. It’s the new one from French synth Disco producer Bestrack, who’s turned his attention to M.I.A.’s Bad Girls single of last year for this majestic unofficial reMix.

Bestrack goes big, and cinematic, with this take on the tune. Build on a core of shuffling beats and growling synth bass, the track heaps on layer after layer of resounding science fiction chords and pads. rising and rising throughout the song, flowing with M.I.A.’s vocals, the keys elevate the reMix to almost euphonic highs as frantic strings support the swelling. Never distracting from the compelling beat, this ceremonious take on a grimy song is certainly different. Give it a chance, you’ll love it.

Also, M.I.A. reMixes make us feel like it’s 2007 again.

[MP3] Strangers reMixed by No Ceremony

The forthcoming new single from London SynthPop trio Strangers, Something New, has been given a moody electronic workout by enigmatic Manchester based outfit No Ceremony. Something New is due for release later this month backed with another new track Never Enough on Strangers own label, Just Off Pop.

No Ceremony take thing deeper and darker with their haunting electronics. Like Minimal Synth, but with more groove, this reMix plays around with vintage drum machine sounds and space synths against brilliant chimes and running hi-hats. It’s like certain elements of the track were honed to pinpoint accuracy and weaved into a tapestry of Post-Punk, House and Experimental Electronics. A welcome addition to the single.

[Audio] Viceroy & French Horn Rebellion reMixes

viceroy-french-horn-rebellion_thumb

A few weeks ago we introduced you to the new collaborative single from Viceroy and French Horn Rebellion, who have teamed up to deliver the awesome Friday Nights. You can read all about that here, but now the single is out it’s time to get your ears around the reMix package, the highlights of which come from the Disco name on everybody’s lips, Bronx, and big room producer Jessie Andrews.

First up is Bronx, who whips the tracks up into a warm, rounded House tune with a big Chicago hook. With both feet firmly planted in the warehouse, Bronx breaks out the 909 beats, organ basslines and piano riffs, which bring a new, enigmatic, edge to the tune. This one’s not so much about chilling with your peeps on Friday Night, as in the original, as dancing ‘til morning in some darkened venue. Jessie Andrews mix also heads straight to the dancefloor, but in this case it’s in the main room at peak time as growling synths and big Disco hooks mash together to create a driving tune with a big euphoric breakdown. The EP also comes equipped with work from Rush Midnight and is a sweet package.

[Audio] L’Equipe Du Son reMixed by Moustache Machine and Final DJs

L’Equipe Du Son

Dutch Disco don L’Equipe Du Son, still riding high on his recently released Transmissions album, is gearing up for the release of that records first single featuring the tracks Le Rocker and Snowballing and a whole host of reMixes. We already hit you with Emeron & Fox’s take in Le Rocker last month, so let’s check out two of the single’s other highlights featuring work from one of our favourite Parisian producers Moustache Machine and Germany’s finest, Final DJs.

Moustache Machine works his slick French groove on Le Rocker and morphs the track from a rough Electro stomper into an enticing robo-Disco floorfiller. Powered in equal parts by a driving, arpeggiated Italo bassline and a twisting Continental synth Funk hook. Working each element perfectly, Moustache Machine whips up a cyborg Disco storm that just keeps assaulting you with layers of intertwining melodies. Final DJs take on Snowballing and bring their synth love to the table on full effect. The SynthWave duo keep it steady and deliver waves of lush, warm synths and irresistible vintage beats. It;s a packed reMix package, six tracks, that makes a great compliment to the album.

[MP3] The Presets reMixed by Tomas Barfod

The Presets

Fall is the next single to be taken from Australian ElectroPop duo The Presets’ award winning (well, electronic rumors award, anyway) Pacifica album. The single, one of the bigger tunes on the album, comes equipped with a reMix package featuring the likes of Alan Braxe, SymbolOne, Hook ‘N’ Sling, Erick Rincon, Ta-Ku and this mix from, LA based, Danish producer Tomas Barfod.

Barfood cooks up a warm, enveloping, deep dance version of the tune. Folding in a slight House vibe and loads of big, progressive, sounds. Delivering a track that could work either as a hands-in-the-air sunrise tune or something more groovy and intimate, Barfood works a classic dancefloor sound and keeps the emotional content at the fore. While you’re here, check out Erick Rincon mix too, taking a different route, Rincon mashed the song to a jump-up beat and some tribal House electronics.
