[MP3] Bestrack reMixes M.I.A.

M.I.A.

This is pretty epic. reMixes of M.I.A. tend to miss the mark a lot, but when they are done right they really work. This one works better than most. It’s the new one from French synth Disco producer Bestrack, who’s turned his attention to M.I.A.’s Bad Girls single of last year for this majestic unofficial reMix.

Bestrack goes big, and cinematic, with this take on the tune. Build on a core of shuffling beats and growling synth bass, the track heaps on layer after layer of resounding science fiction chords and pads. rising and rising throughout the song, flowing with M.I.A.’s vocals, the keys elevate the reMix to almost euphonic highs as frantic strings support the swelling. Never distracting from the compelling beat, this ceremonious take on a grimy song is certainly different. Give it a chance, you’ll love it.

Also, M.I.A. reMixes make us feel like it’s 2007 again.

Shook reMixes M.I.A.

Dutch Disco producer Shook recently reMixed M.I.A.’s ‘Internet Connection’.

Shook brings some really nice cut-up Nu-Disco to the table as he drops awesome synth bass solos and Funk riffs. With some wicked key tinkling and nice Funk-Pop sensibilities it’s no wonder this track took The Hype Machine by storm.

Shook’s ‘Glow’ EP is out now and can be picked up here, ‘Internet Connection’ is taken from M.I.A.’s ‘/\/\ /\ Y /\’ album:

M.I.A.’s ‘XXXO’ video

M.I.A. has premiered the video for ‘XXXO’ over on her YouTube channel.

‘XXXO’ is one of the best tracks on her recent ‘/\/\ /\ Y /\’ album and has been out as a single for a while now so it’s nice to see a proper video for it.

‘XXXO’ and ‘/\/\ /\ Y /\’ are both available now.

M.I.A.’s ‘Born Free’ video

Just in case you haven’t already seen the controversial video for M.I.A.’s ‘Born Free’ that dropped yesterday.

You probably have though.

Directed by Roman Gavras (he who directed Justice’s equally controversial ‘Stress’ video) I’m sure it has a great sociological message, but passing commentary by replacing an oppressed minority with gingers is just funny.

In it’s defence it is stunningly well made, amazingly shot and stark at just the right beats. YouTube have already banned it and are pulling the videos as fast as they are uploaded, so watch it while it’s there!

It’s a cool song too, with more than a passing nod to Suicide’s ‘Ghost Rider’.

New M.I.A. track!

M.I.A. just dropped some brand new material, in the form of this video titled ‘There’s Space For Ol Dat I See‘, via Twitter.

Not much is known, even whether that is the title, but more than likely it’s a track from her long awaited follow up to 2007’s  Kala, which is being recorded right now, produced by Blaqstarr. I would say that this is a teaser in the form of raw session material, but it’s actually a really nice track. If the album come out anytime this summer then this laidback electro Hip-Hop could be the soundtrack to chilled summer afternoons!

M.I.A. new song-ish

mia2

Well, not really a new song.

Death To The Throne, last seen reMixing Lykke Li have put together this grinding Electro Dubstep Mash-Up/reMix of M.I.A.‘s ‘Bucky Dun Gun’, ‘Pull Up To The People’ and ‘Jimmy’.

Sounds great actually, and new tunes is new tunes!

M.I.A. – New Song (Death To The Throne reMix) (zShare) (MediaFire)

It’s called ‘New Song’ because, in Death To The Throne’s own words:

1. It’s made up of small bite-sized chunks of 3 different M.I.A. acapellas; therefore would be far too difficult to write “Bucky Dun Gun” + “Pull Up To The People” + “Jimmy (Death To The Throne Remix)…aka “Bucky Dun Pulled Up The Gun On Jimmy” or something.

2. (God forbid) that if M.I.A. were to ever die, her record label would probably pump out regurgitated crap like this all day long i.e. Tupac, Biggie, etc..

3. It’ll be funny seeing people go ape shit over a post containing the words “New M.I.A. Song.”

Fair enough.

Click, click, ker-ching!

M.I.A. at The Oscars!

mia

So, the Oscar nominations are in.

Heath’s Joker for Best supporting Actor…”check”!

‘The Dark Knight’, ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Hellboy II’ getting nods in the special effects and make-up categories… a pleasantly surprising “check”!

No love for ‘The Dark Knight’ in best picture or best director categories…an disappointingly unsurprising “check”!

Best original song is an interesting one though:

WALL-E – ‘Down To Earth’ – Peter Gabriel & Thomas Newman

Slumdog Millionaire – ‘Jai Ho’ – A.R. Rahman

Slumdog Millionaire – ‘O Saya’ – A. R. Rahman & M.I.A.

That’s right, British/Sri-Lanken Electro MC M.I.A. being recognised by the Academy…nice!!! The Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack was also released on M.I.A.’s N.E.E.T. label.

The Oscars  roll around 22nd February.

Yes…’Paper Planes’ is also on the soundtrack 😉 , ‘Paper Planes’ seems like so long ago!

M.I.A. has already made it clear she wants to take your money, so you may as well comply.
