[Audio] Foreign Boy’s ‘Desperately Broken’

Foreign Boy

Time for some synthetic BedroomPop now from Londoner Foreign Boy. Ex-Tommy And The Thieves, Foreign Boy latest demo goes by the name of Desperately Broken and, yes, it is as melancholy as the title suggests, but with a injection of musical optimism.

Gentle toytown beats and reedy synths come together to form Foreign Boy’s sound. Incorporating elements of classic SynthPop, Lo-Fi and quirky minimal Pop, Desperately Broken tells a tale on loneliness set to a soundtrack of pulsating keys and abrasive sound effects used in a raw, human way. Get drawn into the robotic, yet emotional, world of Foreign Boy, just make sure you take a hanky.

[Audio] Grum’s reMix of The Other Tribe’s ‘My Girl’

the-other-tribe_thumb1

We’ve been waiting for this one for a while. We’re big fans of both Bristol Indie-Elector rabble rousers The Other Tribe and Grum, who been one of our favourite producers for the past few years, so when we heard Grum was reMixing The Other Tribe’s new single, My Girl, we were eager to get our ears round it. The track was premièred by B Traits on Friday on BBC Radio 1 with us excitedly listening.

And we weren’t disappointed. Grum mixes up a little of his old style retro Dreamwave with his new big-room grooves on this one, which works nicely with the vocals. A collision of tough beats and piercing, infectious, melodies that drill into your brain, Grum’s reMix is one of those that’s that is going to give you goosebumps whenever it is dropped, just let the uplifting synths wash over you.. Dancefloor euphoria mixed with a catchy song, what more could you ask for?

[Audio] Little Boots reMixes Pet Shop Boys’ ‘Love Is A Bourgeois Construct’

Pet Shop Boys

Are you ready for some seriously cosmic Moog Funk? You’d better be. This week the new single from Pet Shop Boys’ excellent Electric album was released, and Love Is A Bourgeois Construct comes with a whole host of reMixes, including this groover from Little BootsLittle Boots Discothèque side of things.

Boots takes these SynthPop legends and drags them straight to the dancefloor, easing them onto it with some lush galactic synths and retro futuristic zaps, before bringing in an absolutely massive, infection, Funk bassline that warbles it’s way through the entire track. It;s really that bassline that pins down the song, the combination of that plus Neil’s vocals might seem like strange bedfellows, but Boots makes it work perfectly. This tune is surprisingly authentic sounding early Disco, all mirrorballs and spangley suits, which somehow plays to the track itself. Addictive listening.

[MP3] Box Of Wolves’ ‘Two Of Us’

Box Of Wolves

Late last week, that Canadian purveyor of all things DreamPop Box Of Wolves served up a brand new tune. We know of some quite exciting thing approaching in Box Of Wolves pipeline, but until then this kind of gloriously breezy ElectroPop is just the ticket to tide us over.

Two Of Us is a swirling, synthesizer fantasy. A reverb drenched symphony of ghostly sounds and twinkling melodies with the ghostly fragments of a voice we believe we recognise drifting in and out of the soundscape. Box Of Wolves captures a nostalgic innocence in all his music, but it’s particularly shown off here, the music equivalent of warm summer evenings.  We’ll be bring you another stunning Box Of Wolves single on electronic rumours (the label) in the coming months, keep an eye out for it, it’s a corker!

[Audio] Hot Natured & Róisín Murphy’s ‘Alternate State’

Róisín Murphy

London/LA House collective, featuring Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, Luca C, and Ali Love, Hot Natured are dropping their début album this week and have been teasing fans with hints of what to expect for the past month. One of the track we were most excited to hear was this one, Alternate State. We were excited because it features one of our favourite female vocalists, the wonderful Róisín Murphy. Check it out.

It’s a deep, dreamy, groove that flows through Alternate State. Both the bass heavy music, and Róisín’s husky, sultry, drawl, slide out of the speakers like silk. Delicate beats, ghostly synths and a classic House vibe make this a smokey track with a solid core. Hot Natured album, Different Sides Of The Sun, will also feature guest turns from Egyptian Lover, Anabel Englund, Kenny Glashow, and S.Y.F.. It should be a good one.

[MP3] Justin Faust reMixes The Knocks’ & Treasure Fingers’ ‘My Body’

The Knocks

If we’re absolutely honest, we found the collaboration between New York DiscoPop duo The Knocks and Atlanta floorfiller Treasure Fingers, two artists we really dig, a little disappointing. My Body just didn’t really do it for us, it felt like these two were trying to  do something, rather than just feeling it. Anyway, have no fear, Germany’s finest, Justin Faust, is here to save the day with this storming reMix.

After his awesome reMix of Night Drive’s Sea Of Light, Faust goes for a seriously pounding warehouse groove on this one, replete with shuffling hi-hats and utterly infectious 90s House hook. Faust build and build an a hypnotic tip, the kind of thing perfectly suited to long nights under the strobe light, preferable in a disused building somewhere, lost in music. A definite improvement over the original, when the beat kick back in after the breakdown, you’ll be grinning like a loon.

[Audio] MØ & Diplo’s ‘XXX 88’

MØ

Danish ElectroPop enigma Karen Marie Ørsted, better know as , has got together with Bass superstar Diplo for her new single, XXX 88. The track is due for a proper release in October as part of her forthcoming brand new EP. We wouldn’t have immediately put MØ’s moody SynthPop with Diplo’s jump-up beats, but sometimes strange bedfellows work out, and in this case they really do.

MØ’s quirky vocals croon out over an interesting, and pleasing, mixture of icy synths and warm beats. Diplo adds some robust horns and the odd bit of shouting to the mix, in fact the whole some revolves around the vocals and the horn hook, with intertwine together to create something genuinely compelling, all driven on by a relentless Dancehall beat. Exciting stuff!

[MP3] Strangers cover Arctic Monkey’s ‘Why’d You Only Call Me When Your High?’

strangers_thumb

London’s finest SynthPoppers Strangers continue their quest to bring you a free track every month between now and X-mas. Having previously brought you Sense Of Liberty for July and No Longer Lost in August, and early entry for September delivers a cover of Arctic MonkeysWhy’d You Only Call Me When Your High?. Can you imagine it? Well, you don;t have to, ‘cos here it is.

This is how you make a song your own. We’re not overly familiar with the original, but we’re pretty sure it wasn’t built out of ominous bass synths and shuffling, clicking machine beats. The whole track here sounds like it’s layered with an air of danger, from the growling synths to the frantic Drum & Bass finale, the track breathes out a nervous tension that makes the song itself, expertly delivered by David, sound slightly menacing. Three months down.Three to go..

[Video] Chromeo & Oliver’s reMix of Donna Summer’s ‘Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)’

Love Is In Control Finger On The Trigger Chromeo O... YouTube

A while back we served up the amazing team-up of Chromeo & Oliver reMixing Donna Summer’s Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger), taken from the forthcoming reMix tribute album, Love To Love You Donna. Now check out the official video for this astoundingly good slab of synth Funk.

The video riffs off the original, but adds a load of stock footage and colourful effects. A reMix of the original video for a reMix of the track, you might say.

[MP3] Free Johan Agebjörn/Sally Shapiro reMix album, ‘Sweetened’

johan-agebjorn

Never one to sit around on his arse, prolific ElectroPop producer Johan Agebjörn having already released the new Sally Shapiro album and it’s associated collection of reMixes, the man is keeping himself busy by releasing this free compilation of his reMix work, both as himself and as part of Sally Shapiro. Sweetened pulls together some pretty big names that Agebjörn has gifted with his production skills, featuring the likes of Little Boots, Jam & Spoon, Glass Candy, Lindstrøm, CFCF, Wolfram and Holy Ghost! and Hercules And Love Affair, and more.

It’s hard to pick favourites from this sweet collection, the releases here span a couple of years and showcase every side to Agebjörn’s production. From the blistering ElectroPop to the growling Italo, Johan always injects his music with an emotional energy, often mirroring the mood of the vocals, rising and falling with the sentiment of the track. Expect an album’s worth of punchy dance beats and starlight synthesizers that whirl around your head. At times the album show’s off Agebjörn deeper, groovier, more experimental side, but on the whole you’re treated to 13 tracks from one of the best ElectroPop producers in the world working today. Did we mention it was free?

Little Boots – Crescendo (Sally Shapiro Diminuendo reMix)
