[Audio] Hot Natured’s ‘Off World Lover’

Hot-Natured

2013’s Different Sides Of The Sun, by robotic House supergroup Hot Natured is still one of our favourite albums of the decade so far. The outfit, consisting of London SynthPop turned synthetic House master Ali Love, Chicago DJ superstar Lee Foss, Wales’ fines Jamie Jones and CazalsLuca C delivered an instant classic in their début full length record. Sounding unlike anything else around at the time, the album grabbed house and took it down a decidedly 80s Electro alleyway for a good seeing to. Ali Love’s futuristic, Sci-Fi themed vocal performances, paired with a host of quality guests, and an array of stripped down & groovy, analog dance tracks made Different Sides Of The Sun something both compelling and unique. It’s an album that still in heavy rotation round these parts.

It’s been eighteen months since the last new tune from this foursome. We’ve had reMix singles in the meantime (including the amazing Luxry mix of Benediction) but new in terms of original track. Well the wait was finally over with the announcement of Off World Lover. The single is due out in September, as a prelude to the group’s sophomore album that is slated for a 2016 release and will feature a remix from Bristolian producer Will Clarke.

Appropriately released on Jones and Foss’s Emerald City label, Off World Lover continues deeper along their visionary House journey. From a title that brings BladeRunner to mind, to Ali’s interplanetary lyrics, to the otherworldly lead lines this is definitely SynthPop and House music for futurists.

Hot Natured have this knack of making raw, analog sounds sound rich and full. Like most Hot Natured tunes, Off World Lover is quite minimal in it’s arrangement, but never feels like it. In lesser producers hands this synthetic orchestra might sound lacking, but these four maestros can eschew flashy, cheap, modern production tricks and still sound as bombastic as any of today’s big, overproduced, dance tunes. With a growling, rumbling bass undulating over a skippy House beat the foundations are laid for this galactic opus. Synthesizers bleep, sounding like the alerts of a spaceship’s computer while electronic strings zip past like starlight and an otherworldly hook plays in the distance like a half-heard Theremin. Over this Ali’s passionately delivers his long-distance lament, calling out between the planets to his long lost love. Howe Hot Natured manage to sound like this, and never once stop being unbelievably funky is a mystery. But they do, and we’re all thankful for that.

Ali Love’s P.U.M.P. album is amongst our favourite LPs of the year. Oof the record’s arresting highlights, Picture Perfect, with it’s Sci-Fi analog Rave vibes, has been given a striking video treatment.

Matilda Finn directed the clip, a dizzying and glamorous hazy nightclub fantasy.

SecondCity

Newcomer House hero SecondCity is set to drop his sophomore solo single, and he’s brought another House hero along for the ride. With Ali Love in tow, SecondCity releases What Can I Do? at some unspecified time in the future via Ministry Of Sound. Premiered on Annie Mac’s show this past weekend, What Can I Do? is poised to be the underground hit of the summer.

A bit piano House monster, What Can I Do? rolls on a slick, pumping beat and some hands-in-the-air hooks. A cheeky Nu-Disco guitar lick weaves in and out of the track, adding a little funk, while warping synth bass and giant piano dominates proceedings. Ali’s instantly recognisable vocals drift over the track, lending it an soulful charm and introducing the final piece of the puzzle. The end result is dancefloor greatness. Expect to hear this a lot over the coming months.

[Audio] Ali Love’s ‘Deep Into The Night’

Ali Love

House, Disco and ElectroPop chameleon Ali Love has just announced his brand new album. Released this summer on Crosstown Rebels his third LP is to be titled P.U.M.P. and sees the Hot Natured member moving further and further into Deep House territory. Ahead of the album release comes this new single, Deep Into The Night.

Ali has performed and produced all twelve track on the new album himself, and this is shown of perfectly on Deep Into The Night. An intricate and complex arrangement with a smooth production sheen that makes for an infectious and warm track. The shuffling House beat and the right and deep bassline create the dancefloor core of the track, underpinning multiple layers of samples and synth flourishes. Ali’s vocals sound as soulful as ever, with some slick harmonies, as he entices the listener into his funky Deep House world. The album should be a corker.

We featured Ali Love’s new single, Another, a couple of weeks ago. It’s a deep, Chicago-y House tune with a little ElectroPop going on too. Check out the brand new video for the track.

It’s all very Cyberpunk, featuring cobbled together technology and virtual reality fighting. It’s nicely shot and the laser smoky swirl is a nice effect for the VR world.

Ali Love’s Another is released today.

Ali Love’s forthcoming new single for Crosstown Rebels is released later this month. He;s apparently not burnt himself out working with Hot Natured and is ready to deliver his next batch of solo material. Back to the soulful ElectroPop, he’s bring with him some Hot Creations flavours House vibe too. Another follow Ali’s last single, March’s Emperor and precedes a forthcoming album early next year.

Another rolls along of a shuffling House beat, growling deep tones and a Chicago-esque melody. A brooding and infectiously danceable backing for Ali’s lament. His heartfelt croon gliding across the strobe light dance track like silk. The single comes loaded with reMixes from the likes of Tuff City Kids (aka Gerd Janson & Phillip Laur) and the inimitable Felix Da Housecat, it looks like this tune could be a big one for the winter months.

[Audio] Hot Natured & Róisín Murphy’s ‘Alternate State’

Róisín Murphy

London/LA House collective, featuring Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, Luca C, and Ali Love, Hot Natured are dropping their début album this week and have been teasing fans with hints of what to expect for the past month. One of the track we were most excited to hear was this one, Alternate State. We were excited because it features one of our favourite female vocalists, the wonderful Róisín Murphy. Check it out.

It’s a deep, dreamy, groove that flows through Alternate State. Both the bass heavy music, and Róisín’s husky, sultry, drawl, slide out of the speakers like silk. Delicate beats, ghostly synths and a classic House vibe make this a smokey track with a solid core. Hot Natured album, Different Sides Of The Sun, will also feature guest turns from Egyptian Lover, Anabel Englund, Kenny Glashow, and S.Y.F.. It should be a good one.

Justice. Ali Love. Civilization.

I was debating posting this, by now it’s, literally, everywhere…but, hell, it’s too awesome not to!
I don’t mind admitting that I was worried about the forthcoming Justice album. Could they top, or even just follow ‘†’? Would the new album just follow what they now know is a successful ‘Justice formula’?

There was no reason for me to worry. ‘Civilization’, featuring vocal duties from ElectroPop badass Ali Love, is jaw droopingly good. It’s got all the balls of Justice’s most powerful tunes and all the funkiness of their more Disco leaning tracks, wrapped up in one sweet package. It’s catchy as hell to, for a Justice song, and is driven throughout by some of the best mixed piano I’ve heard in ages.

If I were you I’d get used to hearing this:

More of Ali Love’s ‘Moscow Girl’ reMixes

Various reMixes, and the video, of Ali Love’s funky ElectroPop opus ‘Moscow Girl’ have been knocking around for a while now but, now finally, the single sees it’s proper release next week.

The reMix package will include these to versions from Lee Foss and Jacques Renault. I’m really diggin’ the Lee Foss mix, it’s got a really early 80’s vibe with wide vintage synths, Simmonds tom rolls and some hardcore vocoder work. It sounds like the emotional montage tune from an 80’s ‘Moscow Girl’ movie. Mr. Renault turns in a Garage-y House mix to round off the single.

‘Moscow Girl’ is released 17th January on Back Yard Recordings and is recommended.
