Citizens! reMixed by Kitsuné’s Gildas

Citizens!

Fresh from premièring the video for the forthcoming re-release of London ElectroPop outfit Citizens!True Romance, we are treated to on of the reMixes of the track. This one comes from Kitsuné Music main man Gildas.

Despite the title, it was actually Cassian’s Torpical reMix of this track that featured on Gildas Kitsuné Club Night Mix #2 album. But whatever the title, this is one of the best mixes of the track we’ve heard so far. Gildas adds some really nice punchy bass and a thick dance beat. It works so well, and one of those track that builds and builds into a cosmic collision of Citizens!’ eclectic instrumentation and Gildas’ dancefloor nouse. Citizens! début album, Here We Are, drops later this year.

Goin’ Old School: Heaven 17, The Human League & Thompson Twins

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

Today we are Goin’ Old School, and goin’ Sheffield. Kicking off with Heaven 17’s Influential, and charged  Lets All Make A Bomb from 1981’s Penthouse & Pavement.

We can’t got to Sheffield without slipping in some of my beloved The Human League. Here’s ‘that’ The Human League moment in The Sound Of The Crowd from 1981.

Sheffield’s unsung ElectroPop heroes Thompson Twins with a TOTP performance of 1983’s Love On Your Side.

Olivaw’s ‘Tonight We’ll Rewind The Tape With Pencil’

Olivaw

One of Russia’s finest exports, purveyor of all things SynthWavey, Dreamwavey and Nu-Discoy, Olivaw has just released his début album, the amazingly titled Tonight We’ll Rewind The Tape With Pencil. It compiles his work over the last year or so, and just goes to show why Russia is taking manky retro synth producers to school these days. We’ve features this resident of Arkhangelsk in northern Russia before, so we’re pretty excited about this eleven track collection.

And it lives up to our expectations too. It’s a sprawling, rich palette of synthesizer textures, each track carrying it’s own nostalgic emotional resonance. The first three tracks on the album, Teenage Feelings, The City And The Sea and The Guardians Of Time set up the record, letting you know what to expect. Teenage Feelings introducing the reminiscent, optimistic SynthWave vibe, The City And The Sea bringing a more Nu-Disco dancefloor sound and The Guardians Of Time displaying Olivaw’s  smooth retro soundtrack side. Most of the record’s song fall into one of these niches and the album does a pretty slick job of easing the listener from one mood to the next. Olivaw’s skill really lies in complex layering of melody, many of his tracks feature intertwining lead lines played out on shimmering synth sounds. whilst Olivaw had both feet firmly planted in the SynthWave world, he come across as having a better grasp of the vintage dance sounds of Nu-Disco than many of his contemporaries, The August Sky for example, is a soaring outrun tune but has a serious Disco groove to it, as does Sleepless Nights. Whilst elsewhere Olivaw goes dark Italo for Like In The Movies and full-on dance in City Slickers. Tonight We’ll Rewind The Tape With Pencil is a confident début, and one we heartily recommend.

Tesla Boy + Satin Jackets + KLar&PF = The Socialites

The Socialites

Just like Hannibal, we love it when a plan comes together, so do Glam Jam who have put together an unbelievable trio of talent for their latest release. What happens when you put Russia’s Tesla Boy, one of the greatest DiscoPop acts in the world, fellow St. Petersburg based producers KLar&PF and Glam Jam’s own German smooth Disco king Satin Jackets together? The Socialites.

The result is Only This Moment, a track of which their are two versions, Satin Jackets mix and KLar&PF’s take. Both tracks are pinned down by the vocals of Tesla Boy’s Antonionni Sevidov, here doing his best Michael McDonald voice (we don’t think we’ve ever heard him croon so much). Satin Jackets delivers a slick Yacht like mix of the track.. A laidback funk bass and warm organ chords provide a real nautical Disco vibe, sounding like an instant classic. It’s a slow and sexy track that really works it’s groove. KLar&PF’s Only This Moment injects the track with more of an uplifting mood, whilst retaining the chilled Disco sound, it works in some euphoric lead lines and a smooth beach Disco outlook. Glam Jam are on to a late night winner right here.

She’s The Queen’s ‘Talk To Me’

Today sees the long awaited release of New York ElectroPop duo She’s The Queen’s ‘Talk To Me’. It’s released by me, and frankly that makes me feel a little weird about writing about it, so I’m just going to copy and past the press release…also by me. Suffice to say it’s fucking awesome, if it wasn’t I wouldn’t have devoted the last few months of my life to it.

This September New York ElectroPop Duo She’s The Queen release their fresh new single, Talk To Me.
Upbeat and catchy, Talk To Me sees Drew Kuryloski and Emily White bring together the best in soulful Pop and energetic Dance-Pop, seeped in a love of Nu-Disco and Dreamwave.
Drew’s flawless production sheen compliments Emily’s huge Motown-esque vocals perfectly as the two produce a sure-fire summer favourite. Unique amongst ElectroPop, but classic sounding, the dance beats and bluesy vocals that make up Talk To Me are instantly infectious.
Backed with reMixes raging from Big Room House, to smooth Nu-Disco from the likes of Lightwaves, digitalfoxglove, ODahl and Silenx the Talk To Me single contains something for every dancefloor.

Talk To Me is out today on electronic rumors. That’s right bitches, we’re a label!

Worship’s ‘Horizon’ reMix EP

It’s that time again! Today ‘the ever-awesome Holographic People’ are putting out their next release, the long awaited collection of reMixes from the Swiss SynthWave producer Worship’s Horizon EP, and man have they brought together some serious talent for this package.

The reMix release kicks off with electronic wizard Steve Moore’s version of the original EP’s lead track Spiral End, which features the vocals of Ricco Vitali  from Cavaliers Of Fun. Moore takes the bares bones from the vocal track and whips them up into a deep warehouse groove. A hypnotic synth pulse that you could get totally lost in on the dancefloor. Freak You also tackles Spiral End, the Frenchman’s take on the track travels a different road. Freak You builds the tune into a powerful, driving SynthWave tune with piano House overtones and a creamy ElectroPop topping. The king of ‘80’s electronica, Mitch Murder, delivers his version of Horizon, taking his time with the track and working his synthesizer magic. He brings a smooth retro soundtrack vibe to the EP with shimmering melodies and roomy drum fills, layering the track with dramatic tones until bursting into a solo fuelled finale. Elsewhere on the EP you’ll find Finnish big room masters Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver get funky with Miles Inside, combining a low down House groove with lush emotive piano and abrasive, Acidic, synth lines for full on dancefloor intoxication. The EP also comes equipped with Tanz/Tanz’s dark club take on Spiral End. Another amazing release from both Worship and Holographic People.

Jupiter’s ‘Juicy Lucy (Needs A Boogieman)’, with Little Boots, Punks Jump Up and Zimmer

Jupiter

Juicy Lucy (Needs A Boogieman), the title track from awesome French ElectroPop duo Jupiter’s début album is getting s single release this week, in all it’s Moog Funk glory. It’s accompanied by an absolutely stunning reMix package.

It;s hard to say Juicy Lucy (Needs A Boogieman) was one of the standouts of the album, when the album contained nearly one-hundred percent killer tracks, but it certainly was one of the tracks that sticks in your head, with it’s twisted P-Funk bassline and infectiously catchy chorus. It’s the prefect mix of sweet ElectroPop and warm French Disco. Our girl Little Boots delivers a majestic reMix that mixes up a deep 90s House vibe with a few Cosmic elements. Vicky brings a hypnotic dancefloor groove, layered with and uplifting piano hook and some great robo-vocoding. Punks Jump Up go down the warped Disco route with their reMix, the funky squelch bass powering the track along and commanding you to dance amidst the piercing synth stabs. Belgian angled Disco-meister Zimmer takes us down a Kraftwerk meets Moroder road with his take on the track. A deep electronic, at times Acidic pulse, that belies some seriously beautiful melodies.
