Vincenzo Salvia’s new EP

Italian SynthWave newcomer Vincenzo Salvia offers up the latest release on Future City Records. A new four track EP of some of the finest ‘80’s inspired synth that captured the very essence of the SynthWave scene yet manages to carve out a unique sound all of it’s own.

The Voyage EP kicks off with Midnight Breeze, a rockin’ slice of pounding Italo. The backing of this track is borderline Industrial EBM, marching machine gun beats and a relentless arpeggiated bassline power the track ever forward. But it’s not all hard hitting, this robot army backing track is tempered with some seriously beautiful playing. Salvia’s fingers must be a blur as he crafts, shimmering leads and soaring solos. Ocean Drive brings us closer to the rich ‘80’s movie soundtrack territory as Salvia lays down layer after layer of emotion synth work and melodies that ring out against sweeping cosmic pads. Seaside Cruise is, for us, the EP’s standout, and the track where Vincenzo Salvia indulges his Dreamwave side. Packed with feeling, this track really makes the synth come alive. It’s carefree, summery, nostalgic bliss. And not to be missed. The EP closes on it’s title track, Voyage. A perfect finale of ‘80’s synths, funky beats and uplifting melodies. We’ll definitely be keeping out eye on Mr. Salvia from now on.

The Sound Of Arrows’ free reMix album

Well this is an awesome mid-week treat! Sweedish, London based, ElectroPop superstars The Sound Of Arrows are giving away an entire albums worth of reMixes, for free. The eleven track collection covered reMixes and edits, some you’ll have heard before, some brand new, there’s even the Wonders B-side, Longest Ever Daydream, thrown in for good measure too.

The album covers the duo past few years of single, featuring work from the likes of Visitor, Tiësto and Gold Dust on reMix duties but our picks have to be The Knocks version of the single Wonders, which takes a glitchy Disco approach to the tune which soon descends into full-on Electro-House dancefloor power. The amazing Mille and his now legendary reMix of The Sound Of Arrows’ breakthrough hit Into The Clouds, to which he lands all of his emotional, ChipTune Dreamwave charm in the perfect combination of ElectroPop and synthetic dancefloor nostalgia and Chad Valley’s deep, atmospheric take on M.A.G.I.C.. Chad bring a sparse Chillwave flavour to the track, supplying one of the albums deeper moments as it slips into House territory. It’s a rad collection, and generous of the guys to give it away like this, being packed with class tunes.

Visitor’s ‘Coming Home’

It was only this time last week that we first got our ears ‘round one of the tracks from London based ElectroPop outfit Visitor’s long awaited new double A-side single Coming Home/RNB. Now, having had seven days to digest the awesome RNB, we are treated to the flip side, Coming Home.

Instantly recognisable to anyone who’s seen Visitor live as that big anthemic bit in their set, or any one who’s heard Lifelike’s reMix in his June 2011 mixtape or in the June 2011 edition of Fear Of Tigers’ The Guestlist. Coming Home kinda of sums up what we’re all waiting for in new Visitor material, and why anyone who knows Visitor is this excited about the new material. It’s big, heartfelt ElectroPop, with a nice splash of New Wave guitar and Diamond Cuts impeccable Dreamwave production. It that kind of rousing track that you can’t help but sing-a-long to. Inspirational and uplifting, there is a reason when you see Visitor live it’s this track that sticks in your mind. In a weird way it reminds us a bit of Shiny Toy Guns, before they were a Rock band, Visitor have captured that epic, majestic, uplifting wall of sound perfectly. reMixes on the single comes from Lifelike, Viceroy, FM Attack, Bestrack, SymbolOne, Vanguard, Easy D and more.

Electric Youth’s ‘The Best Thing’

 

One of the greatest exports to come out of Canada ever, Electric Youth’s new single came out this week. the duo are still riding high on the wave of being featured on the soundtrack to 2011 underground hit movie Drive, milking it for all it’s worth, they’re even currently on a ‘Drive’ tour with fellow Drivers Collage. The release of this new single, The Best Thing, is probably the best thing to happen to Electric Youth, probably best to move on from the whole Drive thing now.

And as a step into a post Drive world for Electric Youth The Best Thing is excellent. Blissful retro Pop, more chilled than Right Back To You and more sophisticated than their Valerie early days, The Best Thing displays a more mature Electric Youth, maybe even a more confident one. Both musically and vocally, The Best Thing is heavy with passion as rich pads and piercing leads dance around the track while Bronwyn delivers a flawless, intimate performance. Proving there are more layers to Electric Youth than we have yet seen, The Best Thing leaves us eager for more of their nostalgic Pop. We hear Mr. Vince Clarke had a hand in it too.

Diamond Cut reMixes Harts

The enigmatic Diamond Cut is easily one of the best producers in the world. As well dropping some of the best reMixes of the past few years, on top of one or two (too few) original tracks, he’s also had a hand in so much of the music we love. Everyone from Queen Of Hearts to Visitor have been graced with this Dreamwave guru’s talent. Producing other artists aside, Diamond Cut has been quite quite on recent months when it comes to his own work. Now he’s breaking radio silence with this new reMix of Australian Indie Rocker Harts début single, All Too Real.

Diamond Cut turns it into a slick dance track. Creating a smooth hybrid of Dreamwave and 90’s House, DC whips up the best of both worlds in this mix. Using the originals guitar riff in a way reminiscant of a bit of Daft Punk brings a little Disco touch to the tune. The result of this melting pot of styles is a cool, deep, groove with a retro synth sheen topped off with some impassioned Indie vocals. Hopefully this will see a return to a more active (in the release arena at least) Diamond Cut, more of these late night summer jams please. Diamond Cut leading the pack once more. The reMix will be released on limited edition 7” via Far Land.

The Louder The Better’s ‘Voices’

The Louder The Better

The Louder The Better is the musical pseudonym of Andrew De La Fuente, La Dreamwave producer. He’s been getting a fair bit of hype in the last few months, deservedly too. His tunes perfectly capture the laid back LA groove, especially his latest jam, Voices.

With an undulating, rich bassline complimented bit little Disco licks, Voices is a perfectly balanced production. Capturing that mood of what everyone who doesn’t live in LA thinks LA is like, or at least the do if they listen to enough Dreamwave and Nu-Disco. This is a soulful slice of synthetic Disco, designed for partying in the sun, warm and inviting and ringing out with smooth melodies. The Louder The Better indeed!

Quixotic’s ‘Golden Boy’

Hungarian Dreamwave producer Quixotic has once again rolled a whole heap if influences into one dancefloor groover. This time it’s not galactic Funk that dominates his work it’s a cool summery vibe.

Golden Boy rocks in the Italo and SynthWave direction you’d expect from this guy, but rolls in a little Tropical sheen, we’d go so far as saying there’s a little of the Balearic to this tune. Particularly in the percussion, which brings a smooth island flavour to the track. Atop all this is a thumping digital House bassline and some space piano mixing it up with with the Dreamwave synths and the rousing 80’s lead line. It’s about SynthWave embraces the summer!

Clancy’s new tune

Rich Clancy is the cream of the crop when to comes to UK Dreamwave producers. I don’t think he’s  ever put out a track he haven’t loved, and although his tunes are too few and far between, when they come around it always brightens out day. He just dropped a new tune, Make Up, for free, so consider our day brightened.

Make Up is probably the most House thing Clancy has done to date. Rolling a deep 90’s House sound into his lush synthed Nu-Disco Clancy pulls off a hot, sweaty, late night vibe that draws you in with it’s digital bass grove and lifts you up on bright leads. The main hook is punctuated with a thick retro sound that gives the track a classic dance tune feel while, with the space use of the vocal sample and laid back Balearic percussion added to the mix, Make Up is pretty timeless dance music. Classy as hell.

Lazerhawk’s new tune

We haven’t heard much from SynthWave master Lazerhawk in a while, not really since his stunning Visitors album. The Austin based synth guru has just unleashed a new tune, it’s a collaboration with artist Dave Rapoza for a coming he’s creating called Skull And Shark, and it’s a moody affair.

Simply titled Skull And Shark, this theme is full of dramatic tension. Falling sparely in the Horror side of SynthWave Lazerhawk plays with haunting melodies and spine tingling lead lines. Amidst the distant sound of thunder and rain, baroque synths juxtapose with grinding riffs and alien keys atop a pounding Italo backing. Pure Halloween synthetics.
