[Audio] Cyclist reMixes Rogue Vogue & Patrick Baker’s ‘Until The Dawn’

We’ve already heard both the original, and the slick reMix from Bronx, of Chicago’s Chicago House master Rogue Vogue’s Until The Dawn. Now the Patrick Baker featuring anthem has been given a stunning workout by Canadian synth Disco guru Cyclist. Prepare for the clean House sounds of Rogue Vogue to be transformed into some dirty, raw, Disco grooves.

Thick synth bass and squelchy keys drift through the track, dragging the tune with them on a journey of slick retro dancefloor sounds meets analog funk. Patrick’s vocals feel right at home among the warm vintage sound pallet. There’s tons of Boogie in this track too, the 80s Pop bassline and snappy purcussion see to that, and it gives the track a nostalgic flavour, like a half remembered tune from your youth, and a compelling call-to-dance. [Audio] Tesla Boy & Tyson’s ‘Broken Doll’ reMixed by Pioneerball

Unsurprisingly, the next single from Russian ElectroPoppers Tesla Boy’s amazing current album, The Universe Made Of Darkness, will is Broken Doll. This tune, featuring some vocal work from Tyson, is prime single material. Frequent Tesla Boy reMixers Pioneerball once again contribute to the single reMix package with this thick slice of Boogie.

This one is all about that heavy, heavy, synth Fun bassline. Popping and bubbling away in the background, the irresistible bass serves as a groovy core for Pioneerball’s arsenal of retro synth shimmers. Keeping things mid-paced and solid, Pioneerball serves up a rich vintage DiscoPop powerhouse that perfectly compliments Tesla Boy’s Anton’s vocals. The single also includes a Dub version by Tesla Boy themselves and a reMix of Invisible from Sportloto.

[Audio] Chvrches’ ‘Lies’ reMixed by Ikonika

OK, stop what you;re dong and listen to this right now, ‘cos it’s bloody brilliant. Glaswegian ElectroPop apparitions Chvrches’ début track, Lies, is re-released with a full reMix package next month. We already posted the not-bad Tourist reMix, which, frankly, pales in comparison from this huge slice of Boogie coming from sometime experimentalist and obvious retro sounds lover Ikonika.

Ikonika delivers her very finest 80s synths and stabs on this one. Frantic B-boy beats and a pulsating synth bass keep the energy levels so far up, choppy samples of the vocals and massive 80s chord hits just adding to the nostalgic dance party that is this reMix. The song itself is left, wisely, intact, but give a whole new twist with hints of electronic Soul retro Pop. There even a lush string section to instil little emotional connection, on and a phone ringing off the hook, which kinda’ works, lyrically. Anyway, it’s, frankly, amazing, and a definite contender for reMix of the year.

[Download] Perseus’ ‘Shadow Of The Beast’

It’s been quite a while sine we last heard from French Express main man Perseus. Over a year in fact since his last rash of releases, the acclaimed Seychelles and Love In Zanzibar. From out of nowhere, this week saw the man dropping a brand new track, and possible his best to-date. We can’t stop listening to this one!

With a title like Shadow Of The Beast, and the eerie intro, you’d be forgiven for expecting some dark, a bit experimental, atmospheric piece. But no, Shadow Of The Beast almost instantly becomes on of the most infectious slices of Boogie you’ll hear this year. Given it’s first airing on Perseus’ Boiler Room set earlier int he month, Shadow Of The Beast rolls together a little Ashanti vocals, an rubbery bassline and a whip-crack snare with some lush 80s synths to create a Disco tinged, House leaning, R&B fuelled, retro dancefloor mover. That chime melody’ll send shivers up your spine.

Taken from his forthcoming EP for Modal Recordings, Make Me Feel is the new tune from Cassette Club’s Ben Macklin. Featuring Rowan Arnold from The Dukes on a vocal turn, Make Me Feel has seriously got us in the mood for the rest of the EP with it’s laid back Tropical take on Electro-Funk-Pop.

Loaded to bursting point with Boogie, Make Me Feel channels 80s electronic Soul as it builds it’s walking groove to toward a chorus the injects a little of the Balearic into the mix. A stuttering, bubbling, synth bassline give the tune it’s charm, coupled with a B-boy beat it gives the track a gruff, nostalgic, feel, before the Island Disco and Arnold’s smooth vocal take care of the tracks easy going poolside elements. Head nodding, pensive, stuff.

[Audio] Crayon reMixes Is Tropical’s ‘Lover’s Cave’

This week saw the release of the new single from Kitsuné Music dance-rockers Is Tropical and sat amongst the reMixes is this shining star from one of our favourite producers, ex-Le Crayon, now just Crayon. The track, Lover’s Cave boasts a whole host of sweet reMixes from the likes of the amazing tesla Boy, Dombrace K-X-P and Jonjo Jury, but we think Crayon’s just takes the prize.

You’ll realise why this reMix is our pick of the release the second that warm, thick, 80s synth funk bassline kicks in. It’s pure Boogie, who’s Boogieness is only compounded by the rolling modulated synths and spaced-out delayed vocals snatches. It’s an utterly compelling track, revelling in nostalgia and vintage groove, but with both feet planted firmly in the present. Play out all this over a poppin’ B-Boy beat and Crayon has done it again. Frankly, this reMix is far too good for the mediocre original.

[Audio] Shook’s début album

If you’ve ever read any of our myriad articles about Dutch Disco producer Shook stretching back the past three years you’ll have noticed a constant running through our commentary on his career. We haven’t shut up about what an amazing musician he is. Shook isn’t hunched over a laptop hammering Ableton’s ‘key lock’ and hoping for the best, this guy is a extremely talented multi-instrumentalist and that has always shone though in his music. From his glorious key playing to the complex arrangements, Shook really is a ‘musician’s’ Disco producer, and this week he dropped his long, long, awaited début full length record delivering just under an hour of smooth Moog Funk and vintage robotic Disco sounds.

The self-titled album kicks holds a few tracks we’re already familiar with, kicking off with the excellent Tonight, a vocoder fuelled slice of Boogie that will instantly lift your mood with it’s emotional chorus, setting you up for the rest of the album. Keys Of Light, the first of our brand new treats, mixes rich, twisted, synth Funk bass with a solid Disco groove before giving way to Changing Wind, a hypnotic retro tune that mixes in a slight House vibe amongst the slap bassing and rousing strings to become your new default soundtrack for long journeys. Walking To The Sun brings back vocals into Shook’s world, resulting in a lazy and playful sunset tune that retains it’s funk in the fact of pulled back tempos and a blissful combination of flute and electric piano. Possibly a tribute to the synth of the same name, Wasp is all squelchy, borderline Acidic riffs the collide with a 70s groove that blends seamlessly into Cloud Symphony, the albums mid-point and a multi layered concert of synths that lets Shook’s hands dance across the keys as only he can. The B-Side to Shook’s Ronika featuring Distorted Love, Love For You is up next with it’s Yacht vibe and hazy vocals, followed by the smooth and romantic low tones of Her Eyes and it’s barroom piano refrain. It’s Alright, another bass slapping, Moog funking, head nodder signifies the albums home stretch, as the tempos increases, the grooves become more irresistible and we keep dancing. Garota ’92 sees Shook playing with a little Tropical sound, showing when he turns his hand to Beach Disco, Shook is up there with the best when it comes to laid back summery vibes. Summer Heat, Shook’s most recent tune is saves for almost last, as with most ‘best’ things, as it’s one of the highlights of an album full of highlights before the album play out with Shook doing what Shook does beast, deeply emotional, spacy, electronic Disco with musical ability at the fore. This is a pretty amazing record, and one that should keep you going for the rest of the summer. Reverential of the history of Disco while also knowing what is wanted on Summer dancefloors, this is the album Random Access Memories should have been,

[Audio] Ali Jamieson’s ‘Undisclosed’

Next week sees the new release from a man who is rapidly becoming one of the more prolific producers around right now. Ali Jamieson’s release schedule is becoming something to be admired, or decried, depending on your viewpoint, but let us assure you, quality control isn’t about to slip just yet as his latest release, for Noenized, will prove to you.

His new single is called Undisclosed, it’s a shuffling Italo beast that exchanges Jamieson’s usual left-field Funk for some good old-fashioned Boogie. But don’t worry, in amongst the whip-cracking digital bassline sits Ali’s ecclectic vintage Disco stylings as the track soon descends into an epic solo-fest with electric piano, synths and bass all vying for attention. The B-side, Pepper, is actually our favourite of the two tracks. A relaxed slice of Robo-Disco with elements of Moog Funk, Italo, Cosmic Disco and even a little Torpical all coming together with a philosophically mind-blowing vocoder line to create a slice of synthetic relaxation that’s right up our street. The single also comes correct with a reMix od Pepper from French Discomeister Moustache Machine.

Turning his attention to fellow Irishmen, DFA’s Shit Robot and their single of earlier this year, Feels Good, Figure Of 8 takes the spaced out New York Disco of the original and injects it with a little Boogie, perfect for hot summer nights.

The instant thing about this reMix is the combination of the beat and the bassline, that emphasis the bassline puts on certain kicks really powers the tune along and also makes it irresistibly compelling. The grumbling synth bassline is like a relentless Boogie juggernaut, dominating you listening experience, but providing a rump shaking backing for Shit Robots falsetto croon. A brilliant return to the Funk from Figure Of 8.
