The Tapeaters’ new single

The Tapeaters

One of our favourite Russian ElectroPop acts, The Tapeaters, have just unleashed a brand new single, not only new, but also free! Are you ready for summery retro Pop?

‘Waiting For A Sign’ is pure ‘80’s Pop, of the smooth variety. The kind quaffed haired young dudes in flecked suit jackets would perform on Top Of The Pops around the middle of the decade. It’s a fun, catchy tune with enough groove to get you moving on the dancefloor and enough crooned vocals to be radio friendly. The ‘Luncay Mix’ keeps the ‘80’s feel but chunks up the synths a big, it’s a bit rougher, a bit thicker with a lovely analog lead line. Poetic Disorders’ reMix is euphoric SynthPop, with a rugged synth bassline and a hands-in-the-air House arpeggio. The EP plays out on the Herzinberg mix, which leaves you with a slice of Electro Funk, this is the one on the EP with that space Disco groove we are so tuned into. The reMix is spiced up with some nice Dubby qualities that give it an unusual edge. ‘Waiting For A Sign’ is such a quality EP to be giving away for free, we’ll have to put The Tapeaters on our X-Mas card list.

Graph Gonzales’ ‘Eyes In The Dark’ video

Here’s the new video for Graph Gonzales’ wonderfully ‘80’s ‘Eyes In The Dark’, which we featured last year.

Jason Bowers directs this slick Pop clip. We’re still finding the tune pretty addictive, it;s the big retro chorus that Graph pull off so well!

‘Eyes In The Dark’ is out now.

Goldroom X Citizens!

citizens

Once more Josh Legg has knocked it out of the park with his latest Goldroom reMix. I would say the constant quality is getting tedious if it wasn’t for the fact that his reMixes rock.

this time around it’s Kitsuné’s Citizens! turn for a ride on the Goldroom train as their ‘Reptile’ gets and almost Italo workout. Check out those bright, shimmering synths, like something straight out of an optimistic ‘80’s Sci-Fi movie, a new feature to Goldroom’s arsenal, but one that slips in effortlessly with the laidback funk we’ve come to love. Mixing that with Citizens! track actually results in the most ‘80’s Goldroom track to date, an interesting, but not in the slightest unwelcome, development.

‘Reptile’ is released 19th March with reMixes from remixes by ATTAR!, Cosmic Kids & Tony Adams, Matthias Zimmermann and ColeCo.

Michael Senna & Peter Zohdy

Michael Senna & Peter Zohdy

Michael Senna & Peter Zohdy are a pair of Danish producers who are gearing up for the release of their new single, ‘All In Vain’.

It’s a big room ElectroPop/House track with retro Disco edge. It’s the bassline that does it, the bassline and the icy synth hits, both are pure ‘80’s sounds that have been folded into a peak time House track to give it a New Wavey flavour. Add to that some floaty deadpan vocals and our beloved synth toms and you have this strange mixture of euphoric House and late night analog Disco. the B-Side, ‘Dirty Talk’ continues the vintage sound theme into almost Bleep House territory for a truly retro slice of dance music. The EP also comes with a Techno’d up mix from Blonde:Ish.

Moon Boots’ new tune

moon boots

French Express’ Moon Boots, despite having bills to pay himself, has gone and thrown caution to the wind and dropped his latest big Nu-Disco tune for free!

‘Bills To Pay’ is pretty cosmic and pretty beach party, in terms of it’s Disco standing. So maybe like a beach party on Jupiter or something. With a big soul vocal sampled hook and a creeping funk bassline the track just inspires the boogie. If fact, even though it had the big diva refrain and some seriously strong House piano, it is that bassline, subtly but funky in a Quincy Jones way, that makes this tune so infectious.

Figure Of 8’s new single

figure of 8

I’ve been dying to write about this for a while now, the new single from Figure Of 8, ‘No One Cries For Me’, out next week on On The Fruit Records.

Belfast’s purveyor of all things Pop and House enlisted the help of Bright Light Bright Light and Our Krypton Son and the sublime vocals of Sophie Galpin to create a deep , soulful slice of ElectroPop that will stay with you all day after just one listen. The track has a Balearic, sunrise feel to it, but without all the associated cheese, there’s also a strong streak of late ‘80’s dance, such as The Beloved, DNA in ‘No One Cries For Me’. The more I listen to it, the more I feel like this is a classic dance track, and one you will definitely be hearing a lot more of. An intensely emotional track, both vocally and musically you can’t help but be haunted by the memory of it.

‘No One Cries For Me’ is released 13th February.

Substatic’s ‘Opened Up’

substatic

If you happen to be in London town this Friday I’m sure you will be attending the launch party for our ‘electronic rumors Volume 1’ compilation CD, amongst the acts appearing on the album and playing live that night will be Bristol’s almighty Substatic. The, now, two peice will be showcasing some brand new material and as a little taste they have released their latest tune on their SoundCloud page.

The first thing I noticed about ‘Opened Up’ is how accessible it is, Substatic have always been able to turn a tune, to deliver catchy, memorable songs, but ‘Opened Up’ is a whole new level of 21st century alternative ElectroPop. Keeping one foot in a Dubsteppy, Deep House arena Substatic squarely plant their other boot in radio play’s sandpit and kicks things around. I could easily imagine Annie Mac or Zane Lowe spinning this tune. There’s an electronic Indie vibe going on here, similar to CHEW LiPS, but with more of a heavy bassed dancefloor leaning. Can’t wait to hear what else they have in store for us on Friday!

Alpha Boy & Jowie Schulner

Ooooo, an Alpha Boy and Jowie Schulner collaboration! That’s the kind of get together worth of an issue of Marvel Team-Up! Two of the most talented players in on the SynthWave scene getting together is like a meeting of retro-minds. You know how in the ‘70’s when two acclaimed Prog Rock guitarists met on the battlefield of the stage, you just know it’s going to be a technical solo extravaganza, well that’s what this is like, with synths.

And it’s totally epic, retro synth work with a musicality of the highest order. The solos are stratospheric and completely allowed to shine by a stripped down Italo backing. I like to thing Jowie and Alpha Boy took turns with the solos, kinda’ like a soaring synth lead battle. Can you imagine this performed live on keytars? That’d be awesome!
