Silenx goes lunar

Portuguese Synthwave producer Silenx creates something truly otherworldly with his latest track, ‘Lunar Landing’.

An atmospheric, ambient peice which is an ode to, and a soundtrack to, the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing. Silenx  crafts a mood with is both Sci-Fi-esque and majestic, capturing not only the technological achievement but also a moment that made history with big sweeping chords that play against echoing arpeggios that conjure a feeling of loneliness. Silenx really bring the moment alive, musically.

Topless’ EP

A few months back we introduced you to Dutch funky ElectroPop duo Topless and their track ‘Say you Love Me’, and awesome slice of with a nice ‘80’s electronic Soul feel to it.

The track is now getting a proper release as part of the ‘Topless EP’, sitting it’s retro dance alongside tracks like ‘Saint Tropez’, a track that mixes the bands Italo core with a groovy ‘80’s Pop feel that starts to sound uncannily like Curiosity Killed the Cat meeting Heaven 17. ‘Vamos A Bailar’ is more pure Italo, in face it’s the kind of pure vintage sounding Italo that we haven’t heard the likes of since Heartbreak. This kind of old school DiscoPop we could do with a lot more of in the world. ‘We Both Know’ dials down the tempo a bit for a slick and soulful electronic ballad, before ending the EP on a high energy ‘Trouble Girl’. The whole EP is perfect material for Italo fans looking for something fresh or retro ElectroPop fans.

Ladyhawke reMixed by Punks Jump Up

We’re still in two minds about what we’ve heard of Ladyhawke’s forthcoming new album, some of what we’ve heard is amazing, some of it too rocky for our tastes. I guess we’re just wishing for the good old days of 2008 New Wave Ladyhawke. Take the new single, ‘Black, White & Blue’ it sounds like catchy Ladyhawke, but all those standard rock guitars kinda’ grate on our ears. Enter Punks Jump Up to save the day.

Their reMix of ‘Black, White & Blue’ is exactly what I wanted to hear for the single. I love Pip’s voice so much, so that combined with Punks Jump Up’s bouncy FM bassline is pure gold. Full of hits, stabs and other retro dance tropes this track is gonna’ be so much fun to drop on a dancefloor.

Countach

So, what does pumped up SynthWave champion Jordan F do with his downtime form making epic action movie soundtracks? Apparently, he writes the smoothest love jams for those quite moments in his imaginary ‘80’s blockbusters’ under the name Countach.

This track, ‘Love Theme’, is (to continue the move theme) visually, blue light, white sheets, venetian blinds and beads of sweat. You get the idea. It’s all ‘80’s R&B rimshots and the vibe from LL Cool J’s ‘I Need Love’ creating the mood. and the that sax come in and… Well, that’s how we did things in the ‘80’s!

Starsmith reMixes St. Lucia

Hey! What’s Starsmith been up to? Probably bust producing someone famous, or holed up with Ellie writing her next album? It’s been too long since he treated us to a track though. So it is with great excitement that we hear Fin’s reMix of St. Lucia’s ‘We Got It Wrong’.

Taken from St. Lucia’s forthcoming Neon Gold Records EP, released in March with a an album following later in the year, ‘We Got It Wrong’ is to have a reMix 12” all of it’s own in the lead up to the EP’s release, and that’s where the might talents of Starsmith come into play. Slick and silky Dreamwavey ElectroPop is the man’s forté, no-one does it quite like him, and with his rework of ‘We Got It Wrong’ he crafts a warm, immediately familiar feeling, Nu-Disco tune loaded with bright synths and lush pads. This is one I definitely can’t wait to play out, the kind of track that’ll make the dancefloor move as one. Also, around the 1m32m mark it’s got that sumptuous Starsmith drop that makes you instantly lost in the tune. The reMix 12” also includes work from a current favourite of ours,Lenno, and Xaphoon Jones, it’s gonna’ be well worth a look.

Mitch Murder’s ‘Heading South’

Mitch Murder is just on a roll, ever since the release of his ‘Current Event’s album (number two in our best albums of 2011!) he’s been delivering awesome new track after track, and basically taking the whole retro synth scene to school (which, I imagine, would be kinda’ like the detention in The Breakfast Club).

This week’s fresh cut is ‘Heading South’, which sees old Mitch going right to his outrun core. A SynthWave narrative of a race to the boarder, but Mr. Murder opts for a laid back groove to get him there. The synths shimmer, the beat drive, the tale is told. Right now you can’t expect a finer SynthWave track than one of Mitch Murder’s productions, you know what to expect, he constantly impresses with both his production and his musical talent. This is the soundtrack to our Saturday.

Neon Indian’s ‘Fallout’ video

So, [adult swim] went after Neon Indian to convince him to let them make a video for him, I don’t think he needed much convincing, and the result is this clip for ‘Fallout’.

Lilfuchs directed this ‘80’s cartoon homage that works so well with Neon Indian’s chilled Dreamwave. Although I don’t remember so many boobs in M.A.S.K. or Pole Position.

Lamb reMixed by Figure Of 8

Figure Of 8 continues his winning streak of reMixes with a new version of Lamb’s track of last year, ‘Butterfly Effect’. The Belfast based producer does something completely different with the track and shows us how a reMix should be done.

If you’re not familiar with Lamb or the original track, Lamb are a left-field, post-Trip-Hop eclectic ElectroPop outfit who’s downtempo beats and atmospheric soundscapes make for excellent chill out listening. ‘Butterfly Effect’ is an almost ethereal slice of Sci-Fi ambiance with icy, distant vocals. Figure Of 8 obviously thought ‘you know what this needs? some retro SynthPop boogie!’, and made it so. The track now resides on dark dancefloors in seedy Soho clubs, driven by a pulsating vintage synth bass and razor sharp lead lines. There’s a few surprising thrown into the mix too, some dubby echo, some great, frantic percussion and the occasional Acid burbling. Figure Of 8 has kept the eclectic feel of a Lamb track, but made it able to rock a dancefloor too.
