Mitch Murder’s ‘Phobos Gun Run’

mitch murder

The undisputed king of SynthWave, Mitch Murder, dropped another new track over the weekend, proving he’s still on top form, still an innovator and still light-years ahead of most of the pack in teams of musical ability and pure flair for, and understanding of, retro synth music.

Obviously for someone so influenced by electronic ‘80’s movie soundtracks this was bound to crop up sooner or later, but this is probably the most Vince DiCola-esque peice that I have ever heard Mr. Murder produce. Drawing from DiColoa’s trademark mixture of both arpeggiated & sliding digital slap bass and staccato orchestral hits with big powerful progressions, Mitch Murder adds this to his own repertoire of urgent vintage synth lines and Moroder grooves. The synth solo in the track is simply stunning, it takes synth shredding to a whole new level and lifts the track up to stratospheric heights. Mitch Murder had produced another huge slice of otherworldly, nostalgic, synthesizer brilliance, and with amazingly clean, subtle production highlighted just how much work the much of the SynthWave scene has to do to be on his level.

Casio Social Club’s ‘Nordic Nights’

casiosocialclub11

Here we have the new single from Justin Winks, A.K.A. Casio Social Club. This time not on his own (and pretty awesome) Mullet Records imprint but as part of the first in a series of double A-side released from Eskimo Recordings. CSC shares this release with Djuma Soundsystem Vs. Kolombo, who’s downtempo Disco has got a good groove, but unsurprisingly Casio steals the show.

Mr. Winks has been quietly dropping a sting of ace tunes recently, ‘Rock The Discotheque’ is still regularly played round electronic rumors towers. ‘Nordic Nights’, Casio Social Clubs contribution to the double A-side, is a nice pumping, but quite deep, dancefloor tune that draws on both Disco and House influences and wraps them up in Casio Social Clubs‘ nostalgic Electro Boogie. Riding on a deep synthetic bassline and bright, shimmering, chords ‘Nordic Nights’ does seem to capture a bit of a Scandinavian flavour alongside keeping it retro with big electro tom rolls and even bringing a beach part vibe with some Tropical percussion. Casio Social Club has dropped yet another track destined to move the dancefloor with his rolling retro sound.

Grum reMixes Mary Epworth

Mary Epworth

After a period or relative quite,  Grum is back in the game. hot on the heels of his reMix from Lonsdale Boys Club a couple of weeks ago he’s keeping the momentum going with this new reMix for British singer/songwriter Mary Epworth. Epworth has already been reMixed by a host of awesome names and getting Grum in on the game, one of the pioneers of the Dreamwavey end of Nu-Disco, is the icing on the cake.

Grum’s reMix of ‘Long Game’ sees him continue to walk the part toward the a big room sound, not that he wasn’t always a purveyor of huge, uplifting tunes. If fact, I would go so far as to say this new sound Grum is flirting with is Nu-Disco in a Euphoric Trance mould, it basically has the arrangement of a hands-in-the-air Trance track but with more of a Disco groove, just a little bit more. Because really this is a big Trance track, and a really good one too, perfect for a peak time moment and Mary Epworth’s vocals play right into that. Grum is going huge, the future is his.

Final DJs reMix Kris Menace

kris-menace

Germany’s Final DJs are at it again, dropping another awesome slice of blissed out SynthWave, just in time for the weekend. This time it’s in the form if a brand new reMix of Kris Menace’s Kiki Twins featuring ‘We Are’.

Final DJs bring their smooth night-drive synthesizer love to the tune, an early entry in the ‘We Are’ reMix competition. I’m sure we’re going to see a flood of ‘We Are’ reMixes but I seriously doubt that many will top Final DJs quality. The tune is loaded with subtle influences, a slight Italo feel, a gently French Touch sheen, all folded into FDJs Synthy goodness. It’s a big diva vocal track, and FDJs never make it compete with the music, the laid back urban Electro acting as a compliment, working in harmony with the vocals to create a deep late-nights-in-the-city groove. They couldn’t resist adding one of their trademark solo in there too, this one is particularity buzzin’.

Oxford’s new tune

Oxford

The Frenchman has does it again. Oxford, who weirdly keeps quite a low profile despite being one of the most talented producers on the Nu-Disco and Dreamwave scene, has dropped another bombshell summer jam. This is pure synthesized good times.

‘Flashlight’ is exactly that, a light in the dark. A rolling Funk bassline pulsates it’s way through the track, deep and low, while lush, sidechaned, synths create a nice nostalgic mood. But it’s the soloing that really makes this track fly. First up, in the breakdown, we’re treated to a lovely piano interlude which soon seugeways into a wicked synth funk solo before bringing us back to the groove. Oxford really needs to release an EP soon, we demand it!

New track from Silenx

Silenx

Our favourite Portuguese producer off all things Funky and SynthWavey, Silenx, is back with a brand new tune, ‘Sun Express’. And it does exactly what it says on the tin. You want a smooth, feel good track loaded with retch synths and delicate piano?

‘Sun Express’ really is a sunrise in musical form. Silenx has captured the calm majesty, the understated awesomeness of a sunrise and reflected that in his synth work. Lush sounds played with gentle precision, echoing around the track lending a slightly magical quality to this Funky retro SynthWave track. There’s enough Disco in here to keep most people happy, but the track’s real strengths lie in it’s relaxed, Balearic groove, it’s synth nostalgia and it’s carefree vibe.

seipä’s new tune

sepia

We’ve been keeping out eye on Norway’s seipä for a while now, and his new tune ‘Sunset Highway’ is just one more if his full on SynthWave monsters.

‘Sunset Highway’ has all the right elements in the right places. a sprawling , majestic track with a B-Boy beat. Loaded with thick, lush synths that flow over an rapid fire Italo bassline. This track is like a juggernaut, relentless in it’s synthetic assault. Frantic it may be, but harsh it is not, the soloing that rides the track is slick as hell, and with a solid groove. When the synth horns kick in for the finale you are so swept up in the track it just carries you away. The playing off of the aggressive bassline against the emotional leads is what makes this track. ‘Sunset Highway’ is a two headed creature, and works both those two elements perfectly.

Cusax’s new track

cusax

Cusax is, of course, 80’s Stallone’s Chris Stallone  and Chris Faccone from Savage House who, last year, dropped their very impressive Poppy SynthWave ‘Got That Feeling’ EP. The duo are back together for more soundtrack inspired goodness in the form of the perfectly titled ‘Crash’.

With a name like that, it’s hard to imagine how the track can be anything less than prefect. Luckily the track more than lives up to the lofty expectations bestowed by it’s moniker. ‘Crash’ is a beautiful mid-tempo builder. Full of lush synths, rife with an emotion prescience and Cusax combine a burbling Italo bassline with layers of rich pads and chords, rising and falling, carving out a mood. Sprinkled, liberally, with shimmering, echoey leads ‘Crash’ takes us through a nostalgic, introspective electronic journey. More please!

A couple of new tunes from 80s Stallone

80s Stallone

Prolific London based SynthWave artist 80s Stallone has released a couple of new track in the past week. We’ve seen an increase in output from 80s Stallone in the past few months, and each one has been a synthesizer gem. check out his new two.

‘Electric Nights’ is an awesome track, possible 80’s Stallone’s best to date, and that’s really saying something. There’s something just so involving about ‘Electric Nights’ thick layers of synths and it’s resonant, haunting lead. It’s SynthWave, optimistic style, moving slightly away from the soundtrack influenced sound into something more Poppy, more catchy, yet still just as atmospheric and mood inducing. ‘Cobretti’ see’s him back in Stallone movie mode with a driving peice of sledgehammer Italo action move score. Moody and pounding, ‘Cobretti’ sets an ominous tone tempered with a cutting lead line. With all the recent releases we get the feeling 80s Stallone is gearing up for something, fingers crosses it’s an album.

Oliver reMix Foster The People

Foster The People

L.A. Oliver themed production duo Oliver’s reMix of ‘Dont Stop’, the new single from Foster The People has been knocking around a while now, but now it has dropped through official channels the goodness is there  for all to hear.

Oliver are right up there, the double act of Oliver ‘Oligee’ Goldstein and Vaughn ‘U-Tern’ Oliver, are easily in the top tier of Dreamwave producers, and perfectly positioned to combine L.A. Dreamwave with funker Nu-Disco sounds to become the epitome of the sound. their reMix of ‘Don’t Stop’ comes hot on the hells of their amazing contribution to Punks Jump Up and Dave 1’s ‘Mr. Overtime’ single, where they stole the show mere days later they drop another Disco bomb. Liberally applying vocdocer to the vocals and a bouncy Moogy bass, Oliver take the track to big uplifting places. It’s all about the ass shaking bass and huge synth stabs. Six minutes of dancefloor gold that never wavers and keeps the energy of the Indie-Electro original.
