Casio Social Club’s Discokicks

casio-social-club

Mullet Records main man Casio Social Club is at it again, giving a fresh Boogie reMix to a dance classic, in this case Pamela Fernandez’ Kickin’ In The Beat. This early ‘90’s piano House monster was ripe for a mix for today’s retro-funkier floors and CSC rises to the challenge with a supreme track.

Discokicks, as the track is now named, was released earlier this month and as a thank you to everyone who legitimately purchased the single, as opposed to pirating it like an asshole, Mullet have dropped the Radio Edit of the track as a freebie. So, if you haven’t already checked it out, treat yourself to four and a half minutes of wicked Disco licks, smooth Boogie basslines and a rising Disco House vibe. Then go buy the reMix package.

Ruben & Ra reMix Roxy Music

bryan_ferry

Kings of the retro edit Ruben & Ra are at it again. These guys have a knack of taking sections of tracks and making them sound like they were recorded yesterday. they certainly turn up the heat on Roxy Music’s Don’t Stop The Dance and make it stand shoulder-to-shoulder with this summer’s Tropical hits.

The song is pretty groovy to begin with, but Ruben & Ra add a punchy drum track and  focus all their attention onto, what now becomes, the prefect beach Disco riff. In Ruben & Ra’s hands a dreamy mid-‘80’s Pop track becomes the perfect accompaniment to lounging by the pool. It’s all about the good times. Of course, the is a downside, and that is that Don’t Stop The Dance is actually a Bryan Ferry song, not a Roxy Music song, but at this relaxed point it’s just semantics.

Zimmer reworks Chic

Chic

Vertical Disco? What the hell is Vertical Disco? Here’s me just coming to terms with Horizontal Disco when one of our favourite Frenchmen Zimmer, Horizontal Disco king, goes all 90° on us and drops a big chunk of upright boogie.

A long time staple of his DJ sets, Zimmer has unleashed his edit of Chic‘s absolute classic Everybody Dance. Sucking the hook right out of the track and emphasising it to it’s fullest effect, Zimmer truly gets the art of the Edit right. Taking the immediately recognisable groove and tweaking it to dancefloor perfection. It’s an Reworking that would have made the disco pioneers of the Edit proud. Now, I think, it’s time we prepare for Diagonal Disco. Y’know, just so we aren’t taken by surprise.

Quinten 909’s ‘Closer To Me’

Quinten 909

Out this week is the new monster from Dutch Nu-Disco producer Quinten 909. Bringing on-board American funkster Mayhem for a talkbox groove workout, Quinten drops Closer To Me on On The Fruit Records just in time for the warn evening of the end of the summer. Because these are pure evening jams. Time to get sexy.

You should definitely take the time (or the whole afternoon) to check out every version of Closer To Me, but for us the highlights are the Classic Mix, a soaring synth, warbling talkbox, Disco basslined juggernaut of laid back funk. Infectious and impossible not to move to, Closer To Me brings together all the elements of the groove into one giant groove machine. So what can be better than that? Three little words. Ride The Universe. The four Dreamwave warriors add a little Dub sound to their slick as all hell synthetic Disco, and with the talkbox vocals in tow it’s an unbeatable combination that just goes to prove why Ride the Universe are the top of their game.

Christa Vi & Cosmonaut Grechko

Christa Vi

London based singer/songwriter Christa Vi is at it again, once more is she not showing off her own considerable musical talent, but also her knack for picking the best reMixers. her new single, Small Way Through, is a taster of what to expect from her forthcoming début album and comes backed with a reMix from Russia’s finest, Cosmonaut Grechko.

The original version of the tune sees Christa at her finest. From the school of Saint Etienne ElectroPop Christa’s music appeals because it seems so down to earth, so relatable. As she serenades, appearing effortlessly cool, over toy town drum machine beats, it’s hard not to be drawn into her musical world. Grechko rewinds to the ‘70’s with his reMix. Pure Lounge Disco bliss, complete with slowed down Tropical rhythms and and some of the smoothest electric piano you will ever hear in your entire life, turning Christa’s introspective song into a vintage holiday soundtrack. Christa Vi’s album is definitely something we are keeping out eyes out for, it’s due early next year/

Just some of those Barry Manilow reMixes

barry-manilow

Right then, by now I think you all know our opinion of reMix contests. They aren’t good for anyone. But we’re not going to go on about it again, but like we said we’re only going to do round-ups of reMix competition entries from now on, because, don;t get us wrong, reMix competitions do churn out some absolutely wicked tracks. This week’s tiresome competition comes in the surprising form of legendary smoothster Barry Manilow in a transparently lame attempt to seem relevant, or something. The upside of this is it’s given some very talented producers access to that unmistakable croon.

So here’s the first batch of reMixes of Manilow’s new single, Everything’s Gonna’ Be Alright. These guys are way ahead of the pack right now. American Disco producer Blue Satellite comes out of hiding to drop an absolutely massive Nu-Disco mix of the track. Seriously, this one is huge. Loading the track with bright synths and a solid Disco groove was exactly the way to go with this track, and Blue Satellite nailed it. Waling a different path if Ireland’s Figure Of 8, who gets a little Techy, a little Electro and a little Experimental with his all-too-short, atmospheric, reMix. His pulsating synth sounds and robotic beats shine a light on a whole new dimension for the song. Greetings Program plays around with Disco and SynthWave for his reMix, injecting the track with a little Electro Boogie. This probably isn’t the last Manilow round-up we’ll do, we are hearing whispers of some huge entries incoming. But this will do for now.
