Released next month is Australian singer Owl Eyes’ Nightmixes EP. As part of the collection fellow Australian and purveyor of all thing Funky and Housey Cassian has taken Owl Eyes’ Hurricane and turned it into a poolside Disco monster. Enjoy,

There’s so much space in this track. It’s just six minutes of laid back, carefree Nu-Disco and classic House with loads of room for it to breathe. Spread out over the six minutes are punchy digital basslines with a Chicago feel, twisted up vocal snatches, slightly Tropical leads, lush pads and an overall adherence to a lazy groove. Cassian never fails to deliver, and this floorfilling reMix is no different. One for hot summer nights.

[Video] Charli XCX’s ‘SuperLove’

There’s a brand new Charli XCX song! This is something to rejoice. Coming so soon after her amazing début (proper) album True Romance, SuperLove gives us our first taste to Charli’s next phase. Surprisingly it’s got a bit of a New York Disco groove to it, it almost sounds like an XCX Pop version of the DFA sound. Totally addictive.

Directed by Ryan Andrews, the video is fun as hell. Well, it’s filmed in Tokyo, so you’d expect it would be.

[MP3] 2CV’s ‘Fievre’

While they are busy working on their next proper release, not-French Frenchmen 2CV have decided to give away two tracks to tide us over. Fievre is the first. Both the track come straight from 2CV’s live set and have never been available before. This one is not so much “living room Disco” as kitchen Electro-House.

Interplaying between solid Disco licks, grinding Electro-House riffs and bouncy ElectroPop leads, Fievre hits you with a mesmeric hook that keeps on going and doesn’t let up. Once you’re drawn in there’s all manner of sweeping synths and stabbing melodies in a track the never gets boring. With so much going on, 2CV still manage to keep the groove levels up, and keep your head nodding. We’re looking forward to track number two.

[Audio] L-SEDITION’s ‘You Pay’

Sadly, our favourite Minimal Synth duo Violet Tremors are no more. While Jessica continues to explore dark minimalism with noNViolet, Lorene is taking an altogether more epic approach with her new outfit L-SEDITION. What we’ve heard so far we’d probably call something like Cryptic Cinematic Techno, if we wanted to call it something, which we don’t, so just ignore that bit.

L-SEDITION’s first tune is called You Pay, and it’s a sprawling six minutes of Sci-Fi synthetics. Layered with burbling arpeggios and growling synths, You Pay carries the listener along on a hypnotic journey, occasionally interchanging the chainsaw stabs with lush, rousing strings. Complex and intricate rhythms hail the robotic march of the tracks groove as the whole delivers something that is both machine like and very human. A good start we think.

[Audio] Blende’s ‘Rikki’

Here is the storming, and we really mean storming, new single from London based Nu-Disco guru Blende. His second release for Eskimo Recordings, Rikki is a track we’ve sat with for twenty four hours and it has still not lost any of it’s wow factor. I’d keep an eye on this one, it’s gonna; do big things.

With one foot well and truly in the ElectroPop arena, the Swedish born funk master teamed-up with X Ambassadors’ Sam Harris for one of the catchiest, most infectious slices of DiscoPop you will hear this year. The tune is the tale of “a robot named Rikki” an is a huge combination of stabbing retro synths, solid Disco grooves and big sing-a-long vocals. Everything you need for dancefloor gold. Taking in a little big of everything, front the warbling 80s digital bass to the 70s funk Moogy twists, Rikki is like an electronic music nexus, all influences meet here and get Popified into the prefect DiscoPop tune.

[Audio] Plastic Plates reMixes Nile Delta’s ‘Aztec’

The man that is Plastic Plates, Felix Bloxsom, has had an awesome music year. Or, actually, we should say we’ve had an awesome musical year being on the receiving end of is amazing output in 2013. Well, the year isn’t over yet, and next on Plastic Plates Italo chopping block is the new single from Nile Delta. You’ll know by now that Nile Delta is Joel Dickson, formerly of the amazing Riot In Belgium and one half of Voltage and released the Aztec single this week on Cut Copy’s Cutters Records imprint.

Plastic Plates mix of Aztec bounces along on a intricate popping melody that slowly builds into a full-blown, hands-in-the-air piano hook. With an array of analog synths weaving in and out of the track, a enticing vintage vibe is maintained while the original’s vocals flow from hushed to epic along with the track’s rise. More amazingly solid work from Plastic Plates

[MP3] Chvrches’ ‘The Mother We Share’ reMixed by Moon Boots

OK, we’ll be honest, we weren’t really feeling this reMix on first listen. Which was odd as we adore Chvrches, and The Mother We Share is our favourite Chvrches tune. We’re also huge fans of American Nu-Disco don Moon Boots, and are normally all over his reMixes. It kinda’ felt like Moon Boots didn’t really ‘get’ the song and just tried to shoehorn it into a standard Nu-Disco track, but on reflection we don’t think it’s his fault. The Mother We Share, lyrically and vocally, just isn’t a song that lends it’s self to laid-back poolside disco. Once we stopped worrying about the vocals fitting we we’re actually able to enjoy the track a lot more. So we decided to write about it after all.

Just taking the track on it’s own merits, it’s another excellent Moon Boots production. utterly infectious bass, sparse and mood building piano, little funky synth riffs, it’s got everything you;d ask for in a slick slice of synthetic Disco. We can’t really fault the actual track at all, it’s a really good tune. Chvrches’ The Mother We Share is an amazing song, and Moon Boots production on this track is superb, we just can’t help but feel the two shouldn’t have met. It’s an awesome five minutes of future funk, it would probably be better with less vocals though, and that’s something we never say!

[Audio] Mitch Murder reMixes Gossip Culture’s ‘Waiting’

This tune is pure bliss. A last month we previewed Estate’s reMix of the new single from LA ChillPopster Gossip Culture. The Quincy McCrary featuring Waiting was released in August, but now there’s a brand spanking new reMix from none other than SynthWave deity Mitch Murder. And, yes, it is as good as you’d think.

We do love to hear a Mitch Murder track with vocals, it’s a rare thing, but when it happens it’s always something special. Right here Mitch uses McCrary’s soulful voice to paint a Synth Funk masterpiece. Carried along on a wave of bouncy digital bass and lush soundtrack-esque pads, the reMix sees Mr. Murder dabbling in all the elements of electronic Soul from the 80s that made it so recognisable, and makes them his own. Perfect retro smooth Electro.
