[Download] Freak You & Bright Light Bright Light’s ‘There You Are’

There You Are is the latest tune from French producer and On The Fruit Records shot-caller Freak You. This lush ElectroPop opus boasts a whole host of amazing collaborative names. Not only was a touch of production wizardry lent by Mr. James Yuill, but vocal duties on the this track are carried out by none other than Bright Light Bright Light. Can it be anything other than amazing?

With a slight dusting of House, and an even subtler dusting of Tropical sounds, There You Are is a deep, warm and mesmerising ElectroPop tune with enough dancefloor funky to be considered Disco-y but Poppy enough to storm the charts. Rod’s vocals are simple but very effective, choosing to opt for a hypnotic refrain while Franck delivers on the promise of full beats, body shaking basslines and big emotional rushes in all the right places. Intelligent SynthPop at it’s finest, not pandering to any trend, just serving up quality.

[Video] Techniques’ ‘Switch’

We first featured Preston ElectroPoppers Techniques’ Switch last August and have been awaiting it’s release ever since. It’s out next month via Kitsuné, who we can’t help but feel that along with a lot of their recent releases have dropped the ball on this one, both from a scheduling and promotional point of view. Remember when a Kitsuné release meant something? Now they just seem to let releases slip out unannounced. Ah well, at least it is coming out, definitely long overdue, it’s an excellent tune.

Here’s the video, directed by Tilly Shiner & Becan Rickard-Elliott, simple, monochrome, but quite effective.

[Download] Box Of Wolves’ ‘Hello’

Canadian hazy Disco don Box Of Wolves is back with a new track ahead of the release of the follow up to his last single, Boy, single next month. Hello is just the kind of track to keep you warm on these increasingly frosty winter days. Once again featuring vocal assistance from Christa Vi, albeit in a heavily modulated and chopped-up form here, Hello is an excuse to forget about your worries for four minutes and sink into an all-encompassing electronic dreamscape.

Leading with pin-sharp chords, bright and shiny, Hello soon weighs-in with a resounding bassline and a solid groove. Heavy on the purcussion, Hello also gets you on-board with haunting melodies and distend hook, all coming together in a cloud of swirling Disco. Christa’s vocals are morphed into another instruments in this instance, adding to the sound pallet and enhancing the wave of chill that emanates from the speakers.

[Download] Strangers’ ‘Divine’

So, y’know London SynthPop superheroes Strangers have been releasing a free track at the beginning of each month for the last few months? The last five months to be exact. Well, as we head into December, the guys have collected these tracks as the Close EP, due for release at the start of next month. I know what you’re thinking; ‘I’ve already downloaded those songs for free’, well just hold your horses, there’s more! The EP comes equipped with an exclusive new track, an acoustic version of Fires and a new reMix of Something New from Jack Robert Hardman. You can listen to the new tune right here, and you should, ‘cos it’s well good.

Divine features Lou Bird, and brings to the EP a swirl of lush synths set atop shuffling R&B-esque beats. Sounding distinctly ‘London’, Divine meshes Strangers typically majestic SynthPop with an electronic, urban feel. Strangers do everything big, and Divine is no exception, stuffed to busting point with rich tones and layers of backing vocals. They’re like HURTS, but better. Because HURTS turned into sad rock posers (thanks Dita Von Teese, we know that was your fault) and we have a feeling that Strangers will be (as they say in old London town) ‘keeping it real’.

[Audio] The Other Tribe’s ‘Nobody Else’

Here’s a brand new track from Bristolian party monsters The Other Tribe. We don’t know what it’s for. We don’t know if it’s going to be released. It’s just a new track OK? Sometimes having all the answers doesn’t matter. Just turn up the amp, and let Nobody Else invade your mind. (It is probably their next single though, this is, after all, a radio friendly Edit of the track, but shush, don’t worry about it).

Nobody Else is the guys current live set closer. It’s a good choice to end a set on too, it’s got that ‘just keep dancing’ feel to it, keeps the crowd wanting more. the track shows off The Other Tribes trademark combination of House grooves, manic tribal purcussion, Tropical vibes and an Indie sensibility. The result, as per-usual, is an exhilarating and tight House/Pop tune that is both intelligent and rowdy at the same time. Heartfelt vocals and some hands-in-the-air moments are just the icing on the cake.

[Download] Birdee reMixes Reset!’s ‘Shake The Party’

It’s looks like it’s Reset! part time over at Mofo Hi-Fi/Heavy Disco HQ these days. First we were treated to DiscoSocks’ rendition of Reset!’s I Need You and now we’ve got London producer Birdee’s storming version of the Erick Sermon (That’s E-Double, from EPMD, to the grown-ups) featuring Shake The Party. This one deserves to be played loud.

What Birdee has done here, is looked at Gesaffelstein’s recent EBM-in-disguise singles and gone ‘yeah, they sound good, but they’re not much fun are they?’ and imagined a world where Gesaffelstein liked to get down on the dancefloor with the ladies, rather than marching across a post-apocalyptic wasteland with robots of a dubious political persuasion. OK, so Birdee might not have done that, but the end result is the same. Tough arpeggios, noisy synths and distorted blips and zaps all present and correct. But wait, there’s more, Birdee also brings a truck load of funk to the table making those machine riffs submit to the power of the groove. This is powerhouse Disco at it’s most compelling.

[Audio] Todd Terje’s ‘Spiral’/’Q’

The Cosmic Disco champion who only thinks big, Todd Terje, is back with two brand new tunes on his new single. We knew a new epic release was due this week, we weren’t prepared for just how SynthWave the single’s lead track, Spiral is though. It’s pretty amazing, alongside it’s B-side, Q, it represents over twenty minutes of blissful retro synth Disco that it’s hard not to loose yourself in. The man’s working on his début full length record, due next year, and these two tracks have us more excited than ever for it’s release.

Spiral is really, really, SynthWave. Surprisingly so for someone so knows for quirky, Scandinavian Cosmic Disco. But Spiral is an 80s soundtrack masterpiece. With a pumping bassline and starlight arpeggios, Spiral builds up a tension, adding vintage synth stabs to the mix until the track pauses briefly for a big drop, then slams on the accelerator with a massive synth riff a thick chords. It’s B-side, Q, is a little more traditionally Terje. Cowbells and quirky, reedy, synth hooks create that tundra sound we are so used to from him. Hypnotic and fun, Q proves Norwegian Cosmic Disco can’t be beat.

[Download] Touch Tone reMixes Marlene’s ‘Bon Voyage’

LA’s best-kept-secret (which, frankly, is a bit mean) Touch Tone graces us with another new reMix this week. His latest muse is Sweedish Pop singer Marlene, who recently released her début single, Bon Voyage. It’s Bon Voyage that Touch Tone reworks, sprinkling it with a little West Coast magic.

We’re not overly familiar with the original, it sounds a bit R&B influenced, including a half-decent Rihanna impersonation at times, but in Touch Tone’s care it becomes a storming beach House tune. Clean and snappy, with a Tropical edge, this reMix drifts into your speaks like a sea breeze, bring with it good-time and good-weather (both of which are, we presume, in abundance in LA). Chirpy little melodies play tastefully with a booming hook and razor sharp drums. Touch Tone delivers the goods once again.

[Audio] MiGHty mOUse & Monarchy’s ‘In Front Of Our Friends’

Here’s one tune we’ve been eagerly awaiting for a while now. London’s Disco don MiGHty mOUse and Awesome faceless SynthPop duo Monarchy together on one track. Somewhat of a spiritual follow up to the mOUse’s reMix of Monarchy’s Disintegration, this tune delivers on the price of infectious Cosmic Disco and soaring Pop vocals at the same time as presenting one of the catchiest tracks either of them have released to date.

With a head nodding bass groove courtesy of MiGHty mOUse’s Du Tonc partner in crime, Matt Van Shie, the mOUse style Disco is infused with a brass section whose hook will literally be stuck in your head all day and all manner of sweeping synths. The perfect vintage dancefloor accompaniment for some heartfelt vocals. All-in-all, In Front Of Our Friends is really nice. Lyrically, musically, vocally, just nice. People don’t write enough nice music these days.
