[Audio] GotSome’s ‘Bassline’ reMixed by Amtrac

Currently, Bristol House heard GotSome’s Bassline is seriously blowing up, and we couldn’t be happier for them. This duo definitely has a big future, and whatever they follow Bassline up with is just going to keep that momentum going. The track itself, though, has been given this gloriously groovy workout by Kentucky’s bassmaster Amtrac. Enjoy.

Amtrac keeps thinks deep with his version of the track, utilising subby tones with gentle, evolving chords to deliver a low-slung mood. With a slight hint of Techyness and a sprinkling of Techno amongst his body moving House, Amtrac brings a Robo-Disco quality to GotSome’s festival floorfiller. A real late-night jam, with a few surprises toward the end.

[Download] Jensen Sportag’s ‘After Gardens’ reMixed by Obey City

Have a free download. Courtesy of Jensen Sportag, who are in a right good mood ‘cos everyone loved their début album Stealth Of Days. And good moods make you generous. this little chunk of costs-nothing gold comes in the form of a reMix of album track, the slinky After Gardens, from angry cap-wearer and sometime tour buddy Obey City, who, unsurprisingly, come from Brooklyn, because doesn’t everybody. You get a free analog synth when you move into the area (we may have made that joke before). Studios in Brooklyn must get dead crowded!

Anyhoo, Obey City does a wonderful job with the track, giving it a slick, soulful, Pop sheen. whereas the original was subdued and dreamlike, this reMix pops out of the speakers, all shimmering synths and snappy purcussion. Obey City understands the mood of the track, he keeps the vibes as they should be, just injects a little more urgency into the track. It’s a nice compliment to the original.

[Download] Bit Funk’s ‘Soul Satisfaction’

Soul Satisfaction is the latest tune from Brooklyn beatmaster Bit Funk and as per-usual, the man comes up with something surprising, innovative and out-of-the-blue. On Soul Satisfaction that surprise is a beautiful deep-south-y blues-y vocal which imbues the song with, well, soul. Check it out.

Remember in the mid-890s, when everyone was sampling old Blues records and pairing them up with piano hooks and breakbeats? Well, Soul Satisfaction is kinda’ like that, but minus the breakbeats and plus a truck load of House grove. The whole experience, from the finger-snapping beat to the big choruses, is quite dramatic and emotional, with Bit Funk’s music rising and falling with the vocals. It’s really hard not to love.

Canadian producer extraordinaire Pat Lok unleashed a brand new original tune on an unsuspecting world this week. And it’s a cracker too! Continuing Pat’s descent into the murky underworld of House, Body II Me sees the man completely shedding his Disco past in favour of some seriously jackin’ warehouse grooves.

Wrapping itself in an array of modulated vocal snatches, Body II Me delivers warm and comfortable vibes, ripe for filling the dancefloor. With a slight Garage shuffle to the beat, and an interesting Ravey-ness to the hook, Lok sets himself apart from the House crowd with meticulous crafting and intricate productions. The end result of which are always floorfilling gold.

[Download] Starsmith reMixes Betty Who’s ‘Somebody Loves You’

So, what’s Starsmith been up to since Clockwork? Well, amongst other things, one of the UK’s finest producers have turned-in this shockingly good reMix of Australian New York resident Betty Who’s track Somebody Loves You, from her recent The Movement EP. The rising Pop star already had a strong line in catchy tunes, the addition of Starsmith’s dancefloor friendly sounds makes is a combination hard to resist.

We’ve previously seem a whole collection of reMixes of Somebody Loves You, including a storming mix from FM Attack. Whereas FM Attack went straight for the 80s jugular, Starsmith comes down of his version with the full force of Disco. An energetic, upbeat, cavalcade of grinding synth bass, sparking keys, and Betty’s chameleon vocals that seem to lend themselves perfectly to whatever music is playing, in this case take on the guise of a big dancefloor anthem. Starsmith’s production is, as ever, impeccable. Which is why he’s off producing famous types these days, we love his floorfillers though.

[News] The Blog Sound Of 2014

It’s that time of year again! Yesterday the BBC released their BBC Sound of 2014 long-list, as voted for by DJs, industry insiders and journalists. Generally a good indication of who you’ll be hearing more about in the coming year…sometimes…and a definite hype boost for artists who make the cut.

If the BBC Sound Of 2014 poll is the voice of the UK music industry overloads, then the Blog Sound Of 2014 is the battle cries from the trenches. More grassroots than industry projection, the Blog Sound list is designed to compliment the BBC’s results with a slightly more fan-based approach. Each blog gets to nominate three acts, not that they cynically predict with be big next year, but who are their favourites for next year and genuinely believe deserve to be big next year..

Anyhoo, the Blog Sound Of 2014 long-list is in. Compared to last year particularly, it’s a variable Rock and Folk fest (a brief glace over the list of participating UK blogs reveals a massive swing away from electronic music focused outlets compared to last year so this isn’t too surprising), with Pop, Hip-Hop and Dance Music very much in absence. Although it also has to be said that no-one other than middle-class, public school educated, white folk can even afford to make music in the UK anymore, so again the bias toward folky singer-songwriters and identikit Indie is unsurprising. Still, nice to see IYES there, and Banks, two well deserved entries.

In contrast the BBC’s list is pretty diverse this year, and features the likes of Chloe Howl, Say Lou Lou and MNEK. Admittedly most finger-on-the-pulse bloggers would probably have tipped those acts this time last year, but it’s nice to see some synths represented in the BBC’s better-late-than-never list.

No-one we voted for made the final list. If you’re wondering, our entries were Goldroom, Kate Boy and Chela. We are actually a bit surprised that Kate Boy didn’t make the grade, especially since Rob Da Bank started championing them. Ah well, such is the price of democracy, and at the end of the day it’s just exciting to see so many passionate music lovers, of whatever genre, coming together like this. Because we love it when people love music, even if it’s not the same music we love. That love is what keeps the music industry burning and exciting.

[Download] Avec Sans reMixes Ecstasy’s ‘FRNDS 4 LYF’

Amazing London ElectroPop duo Avec Sans are turning their hands to reMxing more and more these days, which is a good thing, they always seem to come up with something that’s both Poppy and interesting, as they’ve done again with this reMix of British Indie-Duo, and generic-band-namers, Ecstasy’s tune FRNDS 4 LYF from their Exhale EP.

Chopping up the vocals and layering them over a machine beat and a popping hook, Avec Sans create a driving, energetic track with nods to both the harsher and the more melodic ends of the SynthPop spectrum. The lead synth riff alone is worth the price of admission, backed up by the rest of the track stomp-worthy Industrial grind tempered by an irresistible groove and a hint of a Post-Punk bassline. It;s a melting pot of references that all works perfectly in the end.

Don’t Tell is the new single from dance music all-rounder Ben Mono. Out this week on Strictly Rhythm, the single features the vocals of renowned Rave voice Rachel Wallace and sees Mono continue along the path set out in his most recent releases into full-on UK Bass mode via Deep House.

Kicking off with some woozy keys, Don’t Tell brings with it everything you’d expect from a big, Garage influenced, floorfiller. Fit for dingy clubs or big festivals, Don’t Tell mixes up a little classic Rave in the riffs, a little UK Bass in the basslines and a whole heap of underground Jackin’ grooves. Wallace’s vocals sound classic as ever, as if lifted straight from a 90s Rave anthem and implanted into the bass heavy monster.
