[Audio] Pole Position release ‘50’

Pole Position Recordings

One of the countries finest Disco and House labels, Cardiff’s Pole Position Recordings has reached the big five oh. No not in years, in releases. And to mark their fiftieth release they have put together a storming compilation of some of the last couple of years highlights. But that’s not all, the album also contains four exclusive, brand new tunes from Honom, Dato, Deep Sound Express.

Encompassing everything the label stands for, slick Disco tunes, good-time vibes and hazy, dream synths alongside some hypnotic Deep House tunes the album is jam packed. The collection really shows off what a mental couple of years Pole Position have had, going from a new start-up to one of the scene’s staples and a mark of quality on any release. Just look at the line-up that includes the likes of Black Magic Disco, ODahl, Deep Sound Express & Raha, Final DJs, Phunktastike and MiDiMAN as well as tones more tunes from Satin Jackets, Sixth Avenue Express, Arcadis and more. We wish Pole Position all the best heading toward their century of releases.

The Good Life is the new single from Australian songstress Elizabeth Rose. Look out for skittering electronic beats, waves of buzzing synths and a soaring vocal performance.

Check out the video, not really sure what happens in it, lots of singing and milling about. Looks nice though.

[Audio] frYars’ ‘The Power’

fryars

The reappearance of London’s frYars with Cool Like Me earlier in the year resulted in our of our favourite tunes of 2013 so far. Now the man is following up on the runaway success of that single with his new, slightly more downtempo, release. The Power is the lead track on his forthcoming Radio PWR EP due out in October on 679.

It’s a sweeping, hand-in-the-air track, mixing up real instruments and layers of electronics to create and intimate, introspective sound. Lyrically the track is pretty genius, with some amazing lines in there I will leave you to discover. It’s pseudo-60s meets London ElectroPop groove is pretty enchanting and it’s raw production is just the right tack to take on a track like this.We expect to be hearing a lot more of The Power in coming months.

[MP3] Awkoder’s ‘Ho.Ho.Ho!’

Awkoder

The latest tune from French SynthWaver Awkoder sees the talented producer moving in a slightly Houseier direction. Trading his usually moody and atmospheric retro synth tunes for a gloriously nostalgic slice of Chicago House with Tropical overtone, Awkoder sets his sights of claiming the very last of the good weather in 2013. Even if skies are getting greyer, Ho.Ho.Ho! (despite sounding X-massy) will keep the summer vibes going.

If your in the market for some upbeat synth stabs and early 90s vocal sampling with your Island purcussion on full-on House beats, then you’ve come to exactly the right place. Awkoder had captured the excitement of dance music int he late 80s and early 90s and bottled in in his new track. Of course there is a totally addictive piano hook in tow, like the icing on the House cake. It’s hard not to smile at Ho.Ho.Ho!, and even harder not to dance.

[MP3] L’Etranger’s ‘Mersey Mersey Me’ club mix.

L'Etranger

Out soon on London’s La Bombe label is the new release from Ben Thomas A.K.A. L’Etranger. It a collection of reMixes of tracks from his 1997 EP of earlier this year. 1997 was jammed packed with chilled soulful Disco and storming Turbo Funk playing off against each other, and from the sound of this free download of one of the reMixes of the track Mersey Mersey Me we could be in for some seriously Housed up versions.

Whereas the original was laid back hazy soul, this Club Mix, by L’Etranger himself, is a hypnotic slo-mo House juggernaut. Channelling the original’s soul into deeper, moodier places, L’Etranger works up the perfect warehouse groove with throbbing sine basslines and layers of subtly, yet complex, purcussion. If this is any indication of what the rest of the remix EP holds, then we could be in for a treat.

[Audio] Mitch Murder’s ‘Killer Angels’

Mitch Murder

I think Sweedish SynthWave master Mitch Murder must literally live in his studio. To say the man is prolific would be an understatement. We don’t know how he does it, but unlike almost every high volume producer we can think of, Mitch Murder has never one let the quality of his productions slip, and never once lost his king-of-80s-retro-synth-music crown. There must be a point in which just pure raw talent comes to the fore, and Mr. Murder has that in truck-loads.

His new tune, Killer Angels, sees a the return of Mitch to Vince DiCola mode. Punchy digital bass and slammin’ drums pair up with those occasional synth slaps the starshine chords to create a kind of post-BladeRunner, but a bit more fun, mood. It;s futuristic, but optimistic. Exciting, fun and more than anything else, draws you into it’s music narrative. Makes us nostalgic for a movie that doesn’t exist.

[MP3] Sauly & Parker’s ‘Disco Biscuit’

Sauly & Parker

A couple of months ago we introduced you to Pole Position Recordings latest signing, Essex based producer Sauly. While were still waiting patiently for this guy’s début EP, Pole Position have dropped another free tune. Disco Biscuit sees Sauly teaming up with friend Parker for a serious cosmic House excursion.

This one’s got it feet on the dancefloor and it’s head in the could. Pumping 909 beats and a growling bassline keep the track moving while all manner of galactic synths explode playfully across the speakers. Shimmering pads, twinkling keys, Sci-Fi leads, all add up to an epic mood on this track that, when paired with the Deep House groove, delivers an engaging slice of mesmerising dancefloor gold.

[Audio] Classixx reMixes Quadron’s ‘Hey Love’

Quadron

Not content with putting out one of the albums of the year, Hanging Gardens, Disco duo Classixx have been quietly delivering some of the years best reMixes too. Their latest masterpiece comes in the form of this mix of Danish ElectroPop outfit Quadron and their recent single, Hey Love.

Classixx’s version of the tune plays up the soulful vocals and laid back mood of the original whilst injecting it with a little of that poolside magic. Popping arpeggios ride over thick, thick, synth bass as the duo whip up an LA Funk vibe with a slight robotic quality that work well with the originals borderline diva styling.Even incorporating a hint of early 90s House in the mix, the Classixx guys have turned-in another winner here.
