[MP3] Avec Sans reMixes Curxes

Curxes

Now this is pretty interesting and exciting. Two of our current favourite, but wildly different, British ElectroPop acts doing the togetherness thing. On the one hand their Curxes, post-Industrial avant-garde ElectroPopsters of the highest talent factor, on the other hand sweeping, dancefloor friendly ElectroPop wave-makers Avec Sans, who’s infectious, accessible synthetic Pop tunes have make them one of our best finds of the past couple of years. Here’s Avec Sans reMixing Curxes’ current single, Further Still.

We get the feeling that Avec Sans revelled in the chance do do something slightly, for them, outside of the box as the take Roberta’s haunting vocals and weave a tapestry of atmospheric synths and pulsating, bright basslines to compliment clicky and militaristic beats. Proving that Avec Sans can deliver enigmatic, left-field ElectroPop with the best of them, this, almost Scandinavian, track really is the best of both worlds.

[Audio] Figure Of 8’s new EP

Figure Of 8

Belfast’s finest son, Figure Of 8, has just released a brand new EP. Not only is it the mans first proper release since last year’s acclaimed Bittersweet, but the EP also has the honour of being the inaugural release on Figure Of 8’s newly launched record label, DreamQuest. Promoting some of the best electronic music from Ireland, it;s only fitting that the 001 accolade goes to it’s founder.

The Regenerate EP delivers four tracks of spacey dance music. Figure Of 8’s tunes always have a timeless, genre-less quality to the. With one foot in Disco and the other in House, the rest of Figure Of 8 mills around in places like Acid and Dub. Being Figure Of 8’s first EP, rather than a single, you get a nice scope of styles held within. From the opener, Something In The Trees, with it’s ringing Balearic Minimal groove and warehouse bassline to the Cosmic Italo meets Chicago Beats stylings of The Shining Path the EP wraps the listener in deep electronic soundscapes and shuffling retro rhythms. The moody, pulsating ElectroPop of the Our Krypton Son featuring Fountain Of Youth is one of the EPs highlights, drifting out of the speakers like synthetic smoke. Intricate in it’s crafting, it’s a track that illuminates a new element with every listen. Playing out with the Dubby Garage vibes of Never To Be Seen Again, the Regenerate EP is something that any fan of classic dance music, or electronic music in general should be looking into.

[Audio] Röyksopp’s ‘Daddy’s Groove’

royksopp

New material from Norwegian legends Röyksopp is coming in drips and drops these days. After the release of last December’s Running To The Sea, we were pretty convinced of an incoming summer album and possible festival dates. It’s still a possibly, but that kind of hype momentum hasn’t started just yet. There is, however, another drip, another new tune.

Daddy’s Groove, is the intro track to the latest edition of the British Late Night Tales mix compilation series that sees Röyksopp taking up the reins for nineteen tracks of ecclectic weirdness. The track mixes Röyksopp’s tundra electronics with a lazy Disco groove. Bringing the tempo right down is a lot of the time where Röyksopp shine, and they do so here with an array of lush pads and toytown leads. The hazy, drifting vocoded vocals are just the icing on the cake.

[MP3] Final DJs’ new single

Final DJs

Here’s the new single from Germany’s Final DJs. Having had their recent single, Moonshine, dropped to critical acclaim the duo have decided to unleash this one on the world for free. Flash In The Night rocks big Italo vibes whist it’s B-side, Los Angeles takes a trip on a smoother, more soulful, sound.

Flash In The Night is pure robo-Disco. Centred around a machine code vocoded vocal, the track mixes up Kraftwerk flavours with big nostalgic synth sounds and an 80s European dancefloor vibe. Around the mid-point, the track really up’s it’s epicness game with extra levels of harmonic vocoding and and a push in energy. The flip-side, Los Angeles, brings the laid back atmosphere, with lazy slap bass and a wind swept sax solo. Melding French Touch and LA Beach Funk, Los Angeles rock a mode set for late night disco or hazy days by the pool. Go grab this package for free here.

[MP3] Starcadian reMixes Freedom Fry

Freedom Fry

In his second reMix for LA ElectroPoppers Freedom Fry, Brooklyn based SynthWave Funkster, and one of the best kept secrets in the world, Starcadian delivers more of his sweeping emotional synths and dirty Disco grooves. Just a quick search to your right will reveal a whole host of storming tracks from Starcadian, we’ve been eager for new material for a while now, and with the knowledge of a new EP in the pipeline this mix’ll have to tide us over until then.

Starcadian drops it big style with this one. Turning his raw synth Disco sound into something fit for the big room, he delivers layers and layers of thick synths and sparking melodies that perfectly compliment the Freedom Fry vocal track. Working some seriously powerful, emotive, synth lines and huge aspirational leads, Starcadian brings his A-game with a reMix worthy of being your summer anthem. More of the highest quality work from this New Yorker.

[Audio] Airbird & Napolian

Airbird & Napolian

Some laid back and hazy LA Funk flavoured Chillwave right now courtesy of the awesome Cascine. This time the noise comes from a collaboration between the Ford from Ford & Lopatin, Joel Ford henceforth known as Airbird and Ian Evans A.K.A. Napolian and their début single together, the double A-Side In The Zone/Special, out now.

In The Zone features vocals from labelmate, Miss Erika Spring, ex-of Au Revoir Simone, and neatly blends a little Disco, a little R&B, a little SynthWave and a little Indie in a big ol’ cooking pot which they simmer over a Chilly-Funk fire. Erika’s hazy vocal flows with the tracks eddies, occasionally bubbling to the surface. The chanteuse’s dreamy wisps of vocal smoke find their way in the nooks and crannies of Airbird & Napolian’s slapping basslines and compelling synths. The B-Side, Special, warps up Airbird & Napolian’s sound with a little retro 80s flavour and a generous helping of House pump and dirty Funk. Working a filtered French Touch groove, these guys makes something ecclectic sound totally dancefloor.

[Audio] Classixx’s ‘Valley Vacation’

Classixx

Jeez Classixx, slow down a bit! I guess Classixx are like busses, you wait ages for something to come along then it all comes along at one. No sooner had the poolside Disco duo released two stung singles and a seriously awesome album, Hanging Gardens, than they are releasing another new track, a groovy Deep Disco cut called Valley Vacation.

Valley Vacation is a nice, optimistic slice of synth Disco. Breezy and carefree, the track rolls an a driving arpeggiated bassline that keeps the dance groove going while all manner of shimmering LA-vibe synths playfully bob and weave around the track. But it;s toward the end that the track really hits it;s stride with an immense sax solo that drifts across the track like it’s carried on an 80s breeze.
