[Audio] Com Truise reMixes Charli XCX

We always love it so much when two of our favourite artists, and one who we though would never be working together, end up releasing something. It’s gotta be said, left-field ElectroPop princess Charli XCX seriously knows how to pick her reMixers, Goldroom, Lindstrøm, St. Lucia now dark futurist master Com Truise, who lends his Terminator synth work to Charli’s current single, What I Like, from her pretty awesome début album True Romance.

Truise applies his retro Sci-Fi synths to What I Like, completely flipping the mood of the track until it reeks of dystopian romance. Swirling BladeRunner synths and vintage drum machine beats rise and fall amongst soaring leads and Charli’s whimsical vocal. Com Truise’s music has a certain seriousness to it, which counterpoints the XCX flippantness to create something entirely new. Great beats, great synths, great vocals. Great reMix.

[Video] Ladytron’s Marnie’s ‘The Hunter’

Here’s out first taste of Ladytron’s Helen Marnie’s forthcoming solo album, Crystal World. The album is being crowdfunded and the first track comes in the form of The Hunter. It’s sounding awesome, deep pulsating SynthPop topped with Marnie’s instantly recognisable voice. It;s made us totally excited for the album;s release.

Directed by Michael Sherrington the clip, loaded with vintage video effects and quick cuts, that captures the introspective energy of the track perfectly.

[Audio] Sally Shapiro’s reMix album (with Mitch Murder, Little Boots, Lovelock & Nite Jewel)

After the overwhelming success of Swedish ElectroPop duo Sally Shapiro’s third album, Somewhere Else, and the preceding single, the Electric Youth featuring Starman we were eager for more, but we didn’t expect something this hot. Just released is Elsewhere, a reMix companion for Somewhere Else who line-up is a variable whos-who is the cream of ElectroPop talent. It’s a killer meeting of minds that features the likes of Dan Lissvik, Young Galaxy, Lost Years and The Field, but right now we are going to take a look at some of our highlights.

First up, the undeniable king of SynthWave, Mr. Mitch Murder, graces the album with his presence. Reworking All My Life, Mitch delivers on his particular brand or rich, emotional, synthesized soundtrack work beautifully here. The deep, twanging, digital bass and invigorating electronic pulse play nicely against the warm tones to create something head-nodding brilliant. It’s prefect for Sally’s vocals too, the interaction between the chorus vocals and the bass is just amazing. If Mitch if the electronic music king, then our girl Little Boots is the queen. Taking on the brilliantly titled This City’s Local Italo Disco DJ Has A Crush On Me, Boots whips up some mirrorball sheen with a surprisingly gritty hook. Mixing up House and Nu-Disco elements to classy effect, Boots turns-in a slo-mo, soft focus, dancefloor dream. One of the most talented men in retro electronica, Steve Moore, here in his Lovelock guise turns his attention to I Dream With an Angel Tonight, injecting it with smooth, laid back, vintage Disco and Italo sounds with a cinematic feel and a slight mysterious, Sci-Fi vibe. LA synthesizer Funk queen Nite Jewel bring to the table a typically atmospheric and left-field slice of electronics in her rendition of Sundown, loaded with compelling basses and swirling soundscapes turning Sally Shapiro from twee ElectroPop into brooding, but groove, Cold Wave. This is definitely a recommended release, with a stellar line-up and a wide variety of styles, there really is something for everyone.

[Audio] Adapt Or Die’s début EP

We’ve got more stuff now hitting the light of day from new duo Adapt Or Die, who you’ll probably know by now is made up of Tony Mitolo, founding member of The Swiss, and live drummer for PNAU and Empire Of The Sun, and Alex Gooden, also live synth player for PNAU and The Swiss along with Gypsy And The Cat, Bluejuice and Spank Rock. That’s some CV these guys have got so their début release has a lot to live up to. It’s finally released at the end of this month so it’s time to find out.

The double A-side single is made up of Dream Control and Diavola. Dream Control was initially a surprise, we weren’t expecting a massive Retro House juggernaut, but that’s what we got. Blending Chicago warehouse grooves with UK Summer Of Love keys, Dream Control is a hypnotic tune aimed squarely at the dancefloor that still manages to work in a Pop House hook and is easily one of the better House tunes we’ve heard this year. It’s flip side, Diavola, takes things down a deeper, Acid House route. This one’s all about dimly lit backroom dancefloors and strobe lights with a relentless 303 burbling bassline and Pacific State-esque chords. This single is a total nostalgia trip into 1988/89 dance music, but one that will rock contemporary dancefloors effortlessly.

This is Swedish Electro cat botherers Lissi Dancefloor Disaster’s new single, Shy. A sweet Scandinavian SynthPop track that’s vastly more introverted than we are used to from this lot.

The clip was directed, shot and edited by Jakob Möller, who captures the subdued mood of the track with slick visuals.

[Audio] Rebeka & Mirror People

Here’s something quite interesting whipped up by one of the best labels around Discotexas. It;s a new single from both Polish ElectroPop duo Rebeka and Portuguese ecclectic Disco producer Mirror People. What began as a collaboration, ended up as two takes on the same song. Taking the tracks in two different direction from the initial seed of shared vision, Rebeka and Mirror People present their versions of Nothing To Give, as one release, our this week.

Rebeka’s take on Nothing To Give is a big, dramatic, ElectroPop tune. Bombastic as it is synthetic, Rebaka’s version of the song, is passionate to the extreme as vocalist Iwona bellows over twisting, shrill synths and a raw, live beat. Mirror People, on the other hand, bring a swirling, European, Disco flavour to the track, with hints of Moroder and Italo amongst the vintage electronics. It’s a really interesting idea that has yielded some seriously infectious results. Another win for Discotexas.

[Audio] Chvrches’ ‘Gun’

The worrying prospect that one-day Glaswegian ElectroPop trio Chvrches might release a shit song and the dream will be over is, thankfully, not yet something we have to concern ourselves with. In fact, these guys are only getting stronger. Surely they can’t be that perfect, even if they are from Glasgow. here’s their latest tune, Gun, to make you feel like all’s right with the world.

Gun unleashed a swell of perfect Power Pop. Given a robotic edge by a rash on Numandoid synth sparkles, the core of the track is driving retro Pop. A big empowering tune that sees Lauren sounding ballsier than ever, she doesn’t sound so much like she’s about to break this time around. Really, ElectroPop doesn’t get much better than this, everyone should be really looking forward to the September hinted album release.

[Audio] Cyclist reMixes Andrew Clarke

Acid funk gospel vibes in the house right now as we check out Torontonian Disco don Cyclist’s latest work. It’s a reMix of British groover Andrew Clarke’s current single, Under The Sun, out now on SoulDeep Inc. Records. So stand by for some classic House reference points and big vocals.

The reMix is a massive departure from the synthetic boogie of the original. You’d be forgiven for thinking that the massive dose of vintage gospel vocals came with the track, but they are all Cyclist’s input. The vocal’s come courtesy of Aretha Franklin’s Never Grow Old, and Cyclist weaves them in and out of the track. Integrating them into a steadily rising, squelchy electronic House tune that builds and builds both in intensity and with the vocals into a dirty synth and piano groove explosion.
