Ronika’s ‘Automatic’ video

The video for, Madonna Of The Midlands™, Ronika’s awesome ‘Automatic’ is here.

To be honest, it’s pretty unbelievable just what you can do with CGI these days, the shots of Ron amidst the waves are so photo realistic you can smell the brine. Did I mention there was surfing? Most importantly though there is an inverted keys Korg Poly 800, or maybe that’s CGI too, ’cos it’s pretty rare. Anyhoo, loving Ron’s DIY vids, I hope even when she has a major label budget she still makes clips like this. Oh and Sam Potter from Late Of The Pier and John Sampson from Swimming all got involved.

You can pre-order the pay-what-you-want ‘Automatic’ EP here.

Ronika also appears on ‘electronic rumors Volume 1′, out now!

Ronika Vs. Lovers & Gamblers

Are Lovers & Gamblers still Little Boots’ personal DJ army? Or have they evolved beyond that (not that there is anything wrong with being Little Boots’ personal DJ army, I’d sign up!). Well, whether they are or not they still turn out a mean edit, and this is the second time they’ve reMixed a track called ‘Automatic’ this one, the better one, being the new single from Madonna Of The Midlands™ Ronika.

L&G strip the track down a bit, turning it into a slightly more minimal Piano led House track. Upping the tempo and adding some shuffling percussion add a sense of urgency (for some reason I kept expecting the track to drop the Paid In Full beat?) but keeps the funky vibe of ‘Automatic’. It’s a nice, ‘90’s flavoured, House compliment to the Disco groove of the original.

Ronika’s ‘Automatic’

Woo-hoo! It’s new Ronika single time! Ron’s been really busy recently, running all over the place doing stuff for, amongst others, the Red Bull Music Academy, Shook and Me, how she’s crammed in the time to get her groove back on with a new EP I have no idea. The girl’s a workaholic, or a grooveaholic if you will.

‘Automatic’ is PopJustice song-of-the-day today, PJ claims Ronika isn’t from the ‘80’s but I’m not convinced. Frankly I’m not sure what is actually more likely, that someone can make tracks this good, and this authentically ‘80’s DiscoPop or that someone could have invented a time machine in secret sometime around 1983/84. With ‘Automatic’ Ron has dropped a massive slab of Pop-Funk with an addictive bassline, a catchy chorus and a solo that flies. It’s not all retro goodness though, there’s enough modern elements in the track to keep it sounding contemporary, inn fact, it sounds like a Nu-Disco edit of ‘80’s Pop hit. Also 5 Star.

Ronika reMixed by Echoes

Ronika

OK, so we don’t normally go in for the whole blog ‘exclusive’ bragging rights thing, we don’t see the point, very little on the internet stays exclusive for more than 30 seconds, and your ‘exclusive’ probably got leaked last week anyway. We always though it was about the music, not the blog. But we are amused by how much exclusivity there is crammed into this one post, so we’re going to mention it. Hypocrites much? What we have here is the première one of our favourite Indie tinged SynthPop acts, Echoes, reMixing our favourite Madonna Of The Midlands™, Ronika, topped of with a exclusive Ronika based display of retro sportswear from our favourite photographer, and snapper to the stars, Katja Ruge. Literally nothing about this post isn’t so fresh it’s still smoking.

Anyhoo, dazzling shininess of this post aside, what Echoes have turned in is a pretty stunning sunrise-beach-party take on Ronika’s ‘Only Only’. Part Balearic, part Progressive House, Echoes strip back the urban dancefloor urgency of the original (and it’s subsequent reMixes) and insured let Ron’s vocals swim about in a sea of chilled good vibes. Echoes have crafted a laid back and emotional slice of summery House with a classy piano line and let Ron’s vocals sit in just the right place in the mix, somewhere just in the distance, so the track washes over you.

Ronika – Only Only (Echoes reMix)

Completely coincidentally, both Ronika and Echoes will be appearing on our electronic rumors volume 1 compilation, released 13th February, and both putting in an appearance at the launch party on the 10th February. Details here.

Ronika’s latest single ‘Only Only’/’In The City’ is out now and comes highly recommended.

Ronika’s ‘Clock’

ronika

The Madonna Of The Midlands™, Ronika, has just premiered a brand new slab of super-retro DiscoPop Boogie.

Collaborating once again with Charles Washington (of ‘Paper, Scissors And Stone’ fame), Ronika has produced a another bouncing bassed peice of soulful ElectroPop. ‘Clock’ stands out from Ronika’s body of work, so far, by having a slightly icy edge to it. Musically the track, on first listen, appears to be an emotive four minutes of ElectroBoogie with a bit of an early ‘90’s House influence, but repeated listens reveal undercurrents of the Cybotron edge of Old School Electro and Mid-‘80’s synth Dub that lend the tiniest hint of cold, futuristic roboticness. Of course, this is tempered by Ronika and Mr. Washington, who’s passionate duet warms the track up right nice! This, though, is Ronika’s greatest asset, her ability to throw all these elements into her Ronika brand melting pot and make the result sound so smooth and effortless.

Ronika: *that* Fear Of Tigers reMix

Here’s the video for Ronika ‘s forthcoming new single ‘Only Only’.

Ron’s looking fly doing her early ‘80’s video thing, which she now has down to a fine art. Love the track, love the video, totally awesome, I wish I could talk about it more, but there’s something I need to chat about that’s been on my mind for a while now. See you after the vid:

OK, so anyone who follows us on Twitter (@electronicrumor) will know I’ve been gagging to play you this track for weeks now. It’s Fear Of Tigers’ reMix of ‘Only Only’, and it’s one of the best reMixes I’ve heard all year.

We love Ronika and we love Fear Of Tigers, so we were pretty destined to like this track, but I was blown away on my first listen and have been rockin’ it ever since, and I’ll tell you why. It reminds me of ‘Don’t Make Me Wait’ by Bomb The Bass, a track I have loved for over two decades, with extra helpings of B-Boy Electro. Fear Of Tigers have captured the mood of the song perfectly bringing in an ‘80’s Electro feel that is absolutely in line with what Ronika is doing. With old School beats, stabs, Simmons tom rolls and a bassline that would kill both on a Lino down the Underpass or in the Top Of The Pops studio, Ronika and Fear Of Tigers have brought together my two biggest, and longest standing, musical loves, Electro (of the breakin’ variety) and ElectroPop, with a hint of my Disco mistress, in a completely modern production that hasn’t left my MP3 player for over a month now, and for that I will love them both forever.

Apologies for gushing, but I REALLY FUCKING LIKE THIS TRACK!

♫ Ronika – Only Only (Fear Of Tigers reMix)

‘Only Only’, and it’s flipside ‘In The City’, is released October 12th, Ronika kicks off the EP with a lunch part at the Lock Tavern in Camden, London on the same day.

Shook reMixes Ronika

ronika

While we’re waiting for permission to play you all Fear Of Tigers stunning reMix of Ronika’s ‘Only Only’ this reMix of the flip side ‘In The City’ by the awesome Shook kinda’ crept up on us.

Shook’s smooth Disco and Funk chills out Ronika’s call-to-arms somewhat and turns it into an Electric Piano fuelled lazy Disco track, the prefect compliment to the original. The Dutch producer sure has a way with the keys.

Ronika’s ‘In The City’ video

this is the brand new video for ‘In The City’, one side of Nottingham DiscoPop princess Ronika’s forthcoming double A-side single.

Director Laurence Matthew Blake has quite authentically captured a late 80’s/early 90’s House feel to the clip which perfectly captures the groove of Ronika’s track.

Ronika reMixes Oh My!

ohmy

It’s kinda’ turning into Ronika week here at electronic rumors towers. Yesterday we dropped her atomic bomb of a new single and today we present her recent reMix for Pop duo Oh My!.

Oh My! have steadily releasing reMixes of their new single ‘Kicking And Screaming’ almost daily this month to promote the single release and here Ronika treats us to massive slab of her 80’s Pop/New York Disco clash. The girl defiantly knows her way around a synth and isn’t afraid of either Funk or Pop. From it’s B-Boy bassline to it’s Disco melodies the reMix displays, one again, Ronika’s unique, but instantly recognisable nostalgic, take on ElectroPop. No-one is doing it quite like her right now.
