[Download] FM Attack’s ‘Fade Away’ reMixed by AIMES

Fade Away was one of the many highlights of Vancouver based SynthWaver FM Attack recent Deja Vu album. The Julian Sanza featuring track was like a Balearic Trance injection into the RoboPop proceedings. The track has just been reMixed by one of our favourite of Brooklyn’s exports (and there are many), AIMES, who brings a little deep Disco groove to the track.

Rocking an utterly infectious walking bassline, AIMES takes a track build for sunrises on the beach and turns it into a smooth jam for sunsets in the city. Still keeping the Balearic feel to some degree, AIMES works up smokey rhythms and wicked little licks around FM Attacks dreamy space synths. The hazy vocals are the icing on the cake, drifting over the track like a voice on the wind. This’ll have you screwing up your eyes tight shut and wishing for summer.

[Audio] Punks Jump Up reMix NSFW’s ‘Getting Away’

Dutch Disco producer NSFW has just released a brand new single via New York’s Nurvous Records, a laid back slo-jam full of soul and rolling bass. The reMix package for the single picks up the tempo and energy levels a bit, especially in the case of this arpeggio fuelled post-Italo beast from London’s Punks Jump Up who’s sparking synths pretty much make the release.

Relentless beats and a pure London Electro vibe permeates every second of this reMix. It takes the dark minimal acid Disco sound of the capital’s seediest clubs and injects a little Nu-Disco fun into them. Delayed analog snyths and a hazy use of the vocal sample push the track into warehouse territory with hypnotic and evolving synth patterns. Whist not as Poppy as some of Punks Jump Up’s output, this reMix is guaranteed to lock them to the dancefloor.

[Download] Mild Peril’ ‘Themes’ EP

We’ve been waiting for this EP to drop for a little while now, a couple of weeks ago London Italomeister Mild Peril unleashed his interpretation of the Doctor Who theme tune to coincide with the shows 50th Anniversary with hints that a whole EP of TV themes was to come. Well, here it is, three tracks of synthesizer bliss with enough nostalgia to put a smile on your face.

There’s three tracks on the EP, we’re going to present two here and let you discover the third, Mild Peril’s rework of the A Game Of Thrones theme tune, for yourself. Of the other two one is a pure revelation. Would we ever in a million years think Aled Jones’ Walking In The Air from the Raymond Briggs cartoon The Snowman would make an amazing dark Italo song? That’ll be a no. But y’know what? It really does. Mild Peril gently lays down washes of electronic, atmospheric sound and building arpeggios until when that instantly recognisable refrain emerges all thoughts of Welsh chiorboys has gone from your mind and your just left with a pulsating synthetic soundscape and one of the richest riffs we’ve heard in a while and some beautiful playing. Who’s There?, obviously the Doctor Who theme, opens with some dialogue form the shows very first episode, and proceeds to have fun with the tune. Whipping the theme’s lead line into an Italo frenzy, Mild Peril layers twisting snyths against a shuffling beat and the cultural icon that is the track’s bassline really capturing mood the show’s 80s years. You should all definitely check out this EP, producing TV theme cover version without producing extra helping of cheese is quite a feat, but Mild Peril pulls it off with style.

[Download] Jordan F reMixes Olympic Ayers’ ‘Magic’

Olympic Ayres are an Australian duo who make some breezy Indie-Electro tunes. A while back they released the bouncy ElectroPop single Magic, which has now been given a massive work-over by SynthWave superhero Jordan F who turns the tune into a nostalgic, imposing, retro smash.

Returning slightly to his SynthWave roots, Jordan F delivers a pounding Italo groove, moody and ominous, which morphs the carefree vocals into some kind of hypnotic chant. The combination of the warbling vintage synth bass and shimmering arpeggios give the track it’s momentum, bringing the drama of the best 80s soundtracks to the dancefloor with anthemic vocals. Pounding hammerfall beats and relentless synths, awesome stuff.

[Audio] Todd Terje’s ‘Spiral’/’Q’

The Cosmic Disco champion who only thinks big, Todd Terje, is back with two brand new tunes on his new single. We knew a new epic release was due this week, we weren’t prepared for just how SynthWave the single’s lead track, Spiral is though. It’s pretty amazing, alongside it’s B-side, Q, it represents over twenty minutes of blissful retro synth Disco that it’s hard not to loose yourself in. The man’s working on his début full length record, due next year, and these two tracks have us more excited than ever for it’s release.

Spiral is really, really, SynthWave. Surprisingly so for someone so knows for quirky, Scandinavian Cosmic Disco. But Spiral is an 80s soundtrack masterpiece. With a pumping bassline and starlight arpeggios, Spiral builds up a tension, adding vintage synth stabs to the mix until the track pauses briefly for a big drop, then slams on the accelerator with a massive synth riff a thick chords. It’s B-side, Q, is a little more traditionally Terje. Cowbells and quirky, reedy, synth hooks create that tundra sound we are so used to from him. Hypnotic and fun, Q proves Norwegian Cosmic Disco can’t be beat.

[Audio] The Swiss’ ‘Kiss To Kiss’ (+ Amtrac, Pyramid and Breakbot reMixes)

Australian Disco duo The Swiss released their latest EP last week. The follow up to their Eloisa EP, and again unleashed via Kitsuné Music, Kiss To Kiss is a classy DiscoPop epic backed with four storming reMixes featuring works from names such as of Breakbot, Pyramid and Amtrac. It’s a pretty impressive package, with each version taking on a life of it’s own. You won’t find four cookie cutter Disco mixes here, each one has a very separate identity.

The original version of Kiss To Kiss is a lush and opulent affair. Rich in Cosmic Disco synths applied to a 70s Mirrorballed arrangement. Canadian singer Roxane Ashley Aiston (from Cordova’s amazing Paradigm) lends her sweet voice to the track, her vocals gliding across the track like silk, rising and falling with the track, melding with the think synths to create something both Funky and pretty cinematic. This is epic DiscoPop right here. Amtrac does an excellent job of taking that vocal line and going all Deep House with it. Growling sine basses and 909 hats are the order of the day here as Amtrac weaves the surprise standout on the EP, a sure-fire club hit. Sci-Fi SynthWaver Pyramid plays up the bombastic nature of the track as he delivers one of his soaring Terminator version of the song. Gruff bass and cascading synths from a dystopian soundtrack dominate the track only to be tempered with some unexpected sweet Disco licks. We we’re half prepared to be a bored with the Breakbot reMix, he’s gotten a little samey of late, but subverting out expectation he turns is a massive vintage Cosmic Disco oddessy, loaded with electronic zaps and pows and a tough, but funky, analog bassline. Alongside an extended version and B-side Golden Century, this really is an awesome collection of tracks. Pity the cover artwork is truly awful though.

[Audio] New Arcades’ ‘Somewhere’

Right, stop what you’re doing. There’s a new tune from London’s finest. Dreamwave duo New Arcades have premièred the first taster of what we can expect from their forthcoming second EP. The follow up to this summer’s self titled début. Back with the big vocal tunes, the kind that are going down a storm at these guy’s acclaimed live shows, Somewhere brings us more urban epicness from the capital.

This time around the duo deliver a mid-paced tune, at a perfect three and a half minutes, of nostalgia and feeling. Somewhere brings together all the elements we’ve come to expect from a New Arcades tune, the bright lead lines, the growling bassline, the soaring, heartfelt vocals. These guys pull of impassioned ElectroPop better than most people in the country right now. With both a strength and a vulnerability in the vocals, and a comfortable warmth to the music, New Arcades deliver the perfect music for dreamers.

[Download] Röyksopp & Susanne Sundfør’s ‘Running To The Sea’ reMixed by Late Nite Tuff Guy and Villa

Norwegian ElectroPop masters Röyksopp and vocalist Susanne Sundfør’s Running To The Sea was released as a single in Norway about this time last year. Their first new single is bloody ages, it was written off the cuff for an appearance on Norwegian Music TV show Lydverket, but went on to create a massive stir online. As a result there is a full reMix package getting a general release, which will include work from Australian master of the edit Late Nite Tuff Guy and Belgium’s finest Villa.

Villa take a laid back Poppy approach to the track. A breezy piano groove and razor sharp synths keep things suitably icy. but Villa inject the Scandinavian quirkiness with a little dancefloor warmth. An immense and encapsulating track that respects the original totally whilst delivering slightly more funk. Just taking the prize though, for us, is the rework from Late Nite Tuff Guy, who just dismantles the whole track and builds it up again as an Italo Boogie Disco monster. A relentless groove, with a dancefloor swing that bubbles under with Acid intensity. A mixture of Disco bass, twisting 303s, Cosmic synths and Susanne Sundfør’s haunting vocal is pretty hard to beat. The energy just keeps building and building in this one, It’s a free download too!

[Audio] Luke Million reMixes Sterling Silver’s ‘Sweet Talk’

Here’s a little mid-week bounce-fest coming straight from the heart of Australia. Well, not the heart, that’s just a figure of speech, the heart would be way too hot, more lie straight from one of the edgy bits of Australia. Anyway, Luke Million, Italo-Disco player and undisclosed parts of The Swiss has gone and delivered a huge slab of vintage Boogie in the for of his new reMix for fellow Aussie (presumably also from an edgy bit) Sterling Silver.

From the opening, cinematic, analog synth warbling you know you’re in for a treat. A retro space-age workout that deftly merges the groovier qualities of Italo and 80s ElectroPop in a slick package that both loaded with nostalgia and fit for contemporary dancefloors. Razor sharp synths mix with thick stabs and the occasional vocoder drop to keep things upbeat and breezy. A proper retroPop epic, authentic as hell without being trite. The sound of yesterday, today.

[Audio] Mild Peril’s ‘Wizards’ Pupil’/’Arp Of Pan’

What better day than Halloween to continue your journey down the rabbit hole that is the world of Mild Peril. The latest release from London’s Italo Experimentalist comes in the form of a brand new four track EP. It’s a double A-side affair, first up is two versions of Wizard’s Pupil, followed by two versions of Arp Of Pan on the flip. Pretty Proggy titles, huh? Well, it is Halloween. And don’t worry about the names, hit play any you’ll be treated to some serious cosmic synth narrative. You won’t regret it.

Both track come in two flavours, First Sequence and Second Sequence. Wizard’s Pupil stars life as a burbling slice of moody Italo, the creeping dread of mid 80s Horror movie soundtracks evident as Mild Peril’s musical story starts to unfold. Clocking in at 8 minutes Wizard’s Pupil (First Sequence) has plenty of time to evolve, morphing from the melancholy synth of it’s beginnings into an optimistic, even uplifting, slice of electronic wonder, which is carried into it’s Second Sequence where the shiny, hopeful, synths are complimented with a retro dancefloor beat. Arp Of Pan continues to play both the atmospheric Italo and cinematic SynthWave cards, undulating waves of arpeggios crashing against a steady groove to create something quite hypnotic broken by twisting and rousing solos. The Arps’ Second Sequence bring takes the mood to a more pensive place for the EP’s closer, with a deep and mysterious fifteen minutes of synthetic bliss. Another storming release from Mild Peril and a must for synthesizer fans.
