[Audio] Arcade High’s ‘Heat Wave’

Arcade High

One of our favourite SynthWave artists, the Pittsburgh based Arcade High has just released his new EP. Out on digital, or CD (with bundled T-shirt!) via Telefuture, the Heat Wave EP is the first proper release we’ve had from Arcade High since last summers storming Pixel Passion album and sees Ryan indulging his high energy ElectroPop side. Check out the EP’s title track below.

What Arcade High has served up with Heat Wave, which features a nostalgic, Debbie Gibson-esque vocal turn from Morissa Trunzo) is a classy slice of pure American 80s Pop. This one’s all about the pinprick brightness of the synths. Crisp electronic melodies play against each other in a carefree manner to provide a kinetic instrumental for Trunzo’s euphoric performance.A summer soundtrack if ever there was one, Heat Wave is a buoyant and insouciant tune that invites you along with it, you’d be a fool to say no.

[Audio] Ride The Universe reMix Chromeo’s ‘Jealous (I Ain’t With It)’

Chromeo

Picture the scene. It’s 2011, a sunny May. We’re still using  Five months earlier LA’s finest Dreamwavers Fiero (now Leisure Council) had teamed up with German Nu-Disco powerhouse digitalfoxglove. Calling themselves Ride The Universe they’d gained a little attention with a handful of slick reMixes, but nothing would prepare the world for what was to come. 11th May they unleashed a reMix of Canadian Funketeers Chromeo’s Hot Mess that was so massively awesome, floor slammingly funky, so relentlessly badass, that it still had the power melt brains three years later. It’s one of our favourite reMixes of all time, it set the tone for the trademark Ride The Universe sounds, and it’s why we fell in love with them.

Seconds out! Round Two! They’re bringing it back, Delivering their Chromeo reMix: the sequel, the Ride The Universe boys has got to grips with Chromeo’s recent single, Jealous (I Ain’t With It) (taken from their really quite good new album, White Women) as part of the currently running reMix competition. The prize is cash, and these four deserve it for two very good reasons. Firstly, they’ve never met, some of the prize money would go toward shipping digitalfoxglove off to LA to actually meet his band-mates and get to work on that damn album; and secondly some of the prize money will be donated to a kid’s music education charity. Sounds like a worthy cause to us. The reMix itself is pure smoothness. A blissful LA Funk vibe permeates every pore of this tune; working it’s laid back squelchy synths around Dave P’s vocals, creating an urban late night groove for the more discerning dancefloor. Complemented by starlight chimes and a sauntering rubble of bass, this one’s got everything to swing to under the city lights. Vote for this bad-boy here, never has there been a more deserving reMix competition winner.

[Download] Final DJs’ ‘Teardrops’

Final DJs

Teardrops is the first new original tune from the newly solo Final DJs (yeah, we’re confused too, just try not to think about it) and it;’s really something you should pay attention too. Collaborating with British duo Frett, Final DJs have managed to serve up something quite original in a sea of sound-a-likes. Check it out.

There’s a lot of music around these days that takes it’s cues from 80s Sci-Fi soundtracks, and straight-to-video classics; but in a scene that is increasingly sounding nothing like it intends to as it fuels itself, Final DJs leans toward the Jarre end of the electronica spectrum whist delivering some authentic sounding soundtrack sounds. He brings the beat too, with a rumbling Disco groove running throughout. The vocal performance from Frett slips into the track with style, layering a passionate lament over the moody sounds. A track that bodes well for the future.

[Audio] Grum reMixes Dirty Vegas’ ‘Setting Sun’

Dirty Vegas

We’ve been a bit busy recently and might have overlooked writing about the new single from the amazing Dirty Vegas. Setting Sun sees the boys treading classic Dirty Vegas territory with a blissful Balearic groove and utterly euphoric, carefree vibes. Good stuff that gets even better when you inject healthy done of Mr. Grum into the mix.

Grum seems to capture everything we love about Dirty Vegas perfectly, whilst twisting it slightly to match his own music personality. What that means is you get the dreamy, sunset, House tinged ElectroPop that Dirty Vegas do so well; that hazy dance feel that carries you away with it, paired with Grum nostalgic powerhouse post-Dreamwave House. Delivering a massive dance tune that feels close and personal, Dirty Vegas and Grum seem like the perfect pairing.

deep-sound-express

Pole Position Recordings and Satin JacketsGlam Jam Artists’ awesome collaborative vinyl imprint Pole Jam Vinyl is set to release it’s third compilation EP next month. As with previous instalments, alongside the likes of Cassara, Monsoon Season and Eclectic Sound, Russian groover Deep Sound Express puts in an appearance with this sweet team-up with Muscovite Raha. Sink into Closer.

Deep Sound Express drops a laid back House vibe with a twist of Disco in the cheeky licks on Closer. The smooth and soulful vocals of Raha lend the track a touch of class while Mr. Express lays down a buoyant synth bassline and warbling keys that give the track a comfortable vintage feel. No retro track , though, Closer is primed of today’s late night dancefloors with this chugging and strangely energetic, yet chilled, flow. Summer nights, here we come.

[Video] Goldroom’s ‘Embrace’

Goldroom Embrace Official Video YouTube

Embrace is one of Dreamwave salty sea dog Goldroom’s finest moments. The Ariela Jacobs vocalised tune is pure summertime bliss, so the presence of a video for the track is like the icing on the cake.

In typical Goldroom fashion, the clip is all hazy nostalgia. Directed by Carlos Nunez, it’s like a sunbeam on video.

[Audio] Ben Macklin’s ‘It’s Over’

Ben Macklin

Out today is the new single from Mr. Ben Macklin. Hot on the heels of his other outfit Cassette Club’s new tune, Collide, comes It’s Over. This new tune shows of Macklin’s smoother, more soulful side. Helped out in no small measure by the silky the vocals of Emma Brammer,

There’s something about It’s Over that reminds us of the classic Dance tracks of our youth. The smokey UK Soul vocals have a particularly very-early 90s vibe to them and Macklin’s piano led Nu-Disco certainly has a nostalgic flow that sweeps you away with it. Perfect lazy sunshine listening. Tommy ‘86 (yup, Tommy has assed an ‘’86’ to his moniker) amps up his cinematic Italo in a reMix that at first glance seems like a strange match, but soon warms you up with a lush 80s groove that finds it’s place with Brammer’s voice. A couple of classy tunes from these guys, and a great start tot he week.
