[MP3] Cyclist reMixes Goldroom’s ‘Embrace’

goldroom_thumb

It was way back in the day, the day being Monday last week, that Goldroom released his latest tune, and lead track on his new EP, Embrace. The track’s been on our MP3 player all week, but now it’s time to mix things up a little with the first of the reMixes. This opening salvo comes from Toronto’s dude of the Disco, Cyclist. Are you sitting comfortably? This one’s smooth as hell.

It’s hard to write about this reMix, ‘cos we’re just sinking into it and the keyboard seems like too much hard work. This is a seriously dreamy and chilled slice of windswept Dreamwave. Ariela Jacobs’ vocals sound graceful as you like as they drift over Cyclist’s concoction of toytown beats, twanging bass and starlight synths. Add in some haunting guitar work and you got an interesting, enthralling, sunshine jam that sees cyclist stretching his musical legs. We love it.

[Audio] Frankmusik reMixes Ride The Universe’s ‘You And I’

ride-the-universe_thumb

We unleashed the new tune from Dreamwave superheroes Ride The Universe a couple of weeks ago. You And I is definitely one of the funkier and more entertaining slabs of Nu-Disco released this summer, like a rush of good times. The track has been given the reMix treatment by Mr. Frankmusik, and the result it typically quirky and typically dancefloor destroying. Check it out.

In the same vein as many of his recent reMixes, Frankmusik delivers a huge sound, stuffed full of complex patterns and musical bait & switches. Keeping the funk intact the whole time, Frankmusik infuses the track with stuttering hook and layers of buzzing synth lines. In his element with the vocal snatches, Vincent chops and pastes various elements, rearranging them in to fresh new melodies to ride his staggered dancefloor beats. A more aggressive, but perfectly complimentary, companion to the original.

[Audio] FM Attack’s ‘Deja Vu’ album

FM Attack

This week, SynthWave innovator and one of the most underrated producers around, Vancouver’s FM Attack, released his long awaited new album. As one of the producers on-board with the Dreamwave sound in it’s infancy, FM Attack has been a constant staple of the scene who’s releases are always looked forward to with anticipation. Clocking up some pretty high profile reMixes in-between albums just goes to show the regard Shawn Ward is held in amongst dance music producers. This new records, Deja Vu, sees FM Attack lean more in a traditional song direction, and the results are well worth your attention.

From the opening beats of With You Tonight, you know you’re in for an Italo infused SynthPop treat. It;s a breezy, romantic tune, full of musical nostalgia and human vocals, and sets the scene for Deja Vu. The Greek voice of retro Pop Kristine makes her first of two appearances on the album on Magic which, like it’s counterpart Runaway, is a emotionally charged slick of authentic 80s Pop laden with icy synths played against a warm bassline and Kristine’s powerful Pop-Rock vocal style. It’s a classic Pop tune, as opposed to Runaway’s more infectious Electro Boogie stylings. Elsewhere on the album you’ll fine the compelling Robo Disco of Corazon, otherworldly and machine-like rub shoulders with the finger snapping, soulful Italo groove of Activate, a vocoder fuelled android’s lament. Tears Don’t Lie and Lost Angeles bring something a little more traditionally SynthWave to the table, showing of their 80s soundtrack music DNA in two very different ways, energetic & Poppy and pensive & resonant. In the middle of the release sits the Julian Sanza featuring Fade Away, an unusual excursion into Balearic Italo with 90s euphoric Trance leads. Deja Vu definitely lives up to what we hope for with a new FM Attack release. Shawn has outdone himself again, we suggest you check it out.

[Audio] Miami Horror’s ‘Real Slow’

Miami Horror

Melbourne ElectroPop geniuses Miami Horror are back, which is pretty big news. We’ve been getting hints that the new album from these guys, who were well and truly at the forefront of the first wave of Australian Indie-Electro-DiscoPop acts, for a while now and we can;t wait to hear it. Here’s the first single, Real Slow, featuring Superhumanoids’ Sarah Chernoff.

Having relocated to LA, Real Slow seems to be the perfect melding of Australian Indie-Electro Disco and LA beach party Tropical Disco. It’s a track that manages to be crisp and clean, whilst still leaving you with a dreamlike summery haze, the production is fantastic. With Indie sensibilities, Miami Horror slow Funk their way through a piano led laid-back Disco tune crated on the backs of Dreamwave Synths. The soundtrack to what’s left of your summer.

[Audio] Goldroom’s ‘Embrace’

Goldroom

Here it is! The new one from Dreamwave O.G., Beach party starter, and Disco sailor Goldroom. As usual this is a reason to prick up your ears as it’s always interesting to see what new styles Josh is going to pull from his bag of tricks. So in the interests of begging interesting, we’re going to briefly talk about this new record and we promise not to mention any kind of weather, not once!

Ariela Jacobs is the voice you will hear on Embrace, she’s a new name to us but the Australian songstress wins us over almost immediately with a warm, impassioned performance. Goldroom brings us a comforting symphony of stabbing synths, smokey pads and a House hook that does it’s job well (i.e. hooks you in). Peppering with synth zaps and drum rolls that seems to pull you with them, Josh, more than many of his contemporaries, really uses the array of electronic sounds at his disposal to create a truly emotional mood. True synthesizer artistry. Also, summer. Damnit!

[Audio] Fear Of Tigers’ ‘Liquid Gold’

Fear Of Tigers

This one a short sharp shock if blissful dance music. Liquid Gold is the new one from Fear Of Tigers, a little taster of what to expect from his forthcoming sophomore album, Hypnerotomachia Poliphiliout. Mr. Tigers has dropped a few new track lately, but we think this is the first one definitely confirmed to be appearing on the new record. It bodes well.

Liquid Gold is piano driven classic dance music. Drawing from many different eras of dancefloor smashes. Loaded with tropes from both the worlds of Pop and dance, including horn blasts, whooping Acid stabs, slick Disco guitar and big room synths that just build and build. Couple all this with nice line in impassioned vocals and you’ve got a track that has us very excited for the album to rear it’s head.

Fear Of Tigers’ second album is due out soon.
