Jupiter reMixed by DiscoRazor

Jupiter

The Jupiter momentum just doesn’t quit, it seems like every other day we have something awesome about the French ElectroPop duo to write about. In this instance fellow Frenchman and master of Disco and SynthWave DiscoRazor has turned his reMixing attentions to Jupiter’s ‘Hula Hoop’ from the recently released eleven tracks of pure awesome they call ‘Juicy Lucy’.

The original is pretty indicative of Jupiter. ElectroPop with a Disco flavour with a slight Indie vibe and some melodically chopped up vocals. DiscoRazor strips out the Indie guitar and replaces it with some seriously smooth Disco with a bit of a House edge to it. DiscoRazor shows his SynthWave side in the track too, with a twisted synth solo that leads right into a slick piano breakdown. DiscoRazor has delivered a slick carefree tune packed with Funk that perfectly compliments Jupiter’s original whist making it slightly more palatable to late night dancefloors. You could od a lot worse than investigating DiscoRazor’s recently released ‘Golden Night’ EP.

Surrender!’s ‘Volute’

Surrender!

Turkish producer Surrender! is about to drop a brand new single in advance of his forthcoming album. Coming out next month on the consistently Funky La Bombe, ‘Volute’ and it’s B-Side ‘Fast Days’, show off two different facets of Surrender!’s infectious groove.

‘Volute’ is a twisting, cosmic, number. With heavy, pulsating, Funk foundations a spacey mixture of Italo and Cosmic Disco play around the track, arpeggios flying, to create something that is both dancefloor addictive and space-age atmospheric at the same time. The flip side, ‘Fast Days’ breaks out the House piano and some massive synth stabs. It’s a driving mixture of Disco and House which is pure uplifting party starter. Both tracks have got a nice grunge o their production, they’re not too clean, not too polished, which (in our opinion) always works better on the dancefloor. Get down and dirty with these tunes! Surrender!’s already getting some play from major names including being part of Digitalism’s new DJ-KICKS album. We’d definitely predict big things for this guy.

Drop Out Orchestra’s ‘The Edits’

drop-out-orchestra1

Wednesday seems like a kinda’ off the wall day of the week to release an album, but Swedish Disco duo Drop Out Orchestra have never been a pair to shy away from the off the wall. Take their new release, a who album of disco edits, mostly of ‘80’s Pop songs. there’s some real genius in that.

Brushing aside the legality of releasing an album of, essentially, reMixes of other people songs, which we’re not even going to think about, Drop Out Orchestra’s ‘The Edits’ is an awesome collection of Funked out version of tunes we all know and love. Much of the time these track go way beyond the remit of an ‘edit’, often played live in the studio with four or five musicians. The album plays like a tour through the catchier side of the ‘80’s on a bus full of drunk disco musicians. Sterling Void & Paris Brightledge’s House classic ‘It’s All Right’ gets a speedy update that keeps the vocal and piano hook intact but layers think new slabs of Boogie and a fast fingered bassline. Other highlights of the record include a smoothed over version of Robyn’s ‘Hang With Me’, which becomes a shiny lazy Disco groove. Duran Duran’s ‘Girls On Film’ is morphed into a wicked riffed, dubbed out, cosmic jam and off-the-wall-est of all Bros’ ‘When I Will I Be Famous?’ in a Moog laden Acid tweaking collision with a guitar solo. Drop Out Orchestra obviously had a lot of fun putting these tracks together, and we certainly had a lot of fun listening to them.

MiGHty mOUse’s new EP

MiGHty mOUse

This week London’s king of groove MiGHty mOUse releases his new EP. The long awaited follow up to 2010’s ‘Disco Battle Weapons’, the cunningly titled ‘Disco Battle Weapons (Volume 2)’ is a return to straight up cosmic Disco after all that mucking around with being a Pop band (and releasing one of our favourite tunes of 2011). MiGHty mOUse has already had an amazing year with his ‘Disco Circus’ mix selling like hotcakes, but now it’s time to get down to the nitty gritty and bust out some space age Disco as only MM can.

It’s hard for us to pick out favourite track on the EP, it’s a toss-up between ‘Moments In Space’ and ‘Rocket’. ‘Moments’ is a galactic journey made audio, a SciFi story for the dancefloor. Raw beats and otherworldly arpeggios weave in and out of the track while you mind id dominated by a piercing alien melody. Intricately crafted and immediately infectious, ‘Moments’ is a new tough, cosmic Disco MiGHty mOUse, and we love it. ‘Rocket’ is the spiritual descendant of Herbie Hancock’s classic of the same (well, similar) name, and it models itself on the same era of electronic Funk and Disco whilst never moving one foot from the harder dancefloors of today. A growling bassline and a nod to B-Boy Electro is all we need. ‘Kid In Space’ is the brightest track on the EP, a cute robotic melody loops around this tune, which is just the ticket for livening up the dancefloor. The hypnotic lead line and bass give the track room to play around with percussion and LFOs, who are the real starts of the track. ‘Electric Moonshine’ seems to be the big, classic Nu-Disco, offering from the EP, but the inclusion of slightly staccato Violin give this track a complete uniqueness. Couple that with a huge, emotion breakdown, and MiGHty mOUse new retro future groove and you’ve got the track that’ll be killing the clubs in the coming months. ‘Disco Battle Weapons (Volume 2)’ is a very welcome return to original track for MiGHty mOUse, and one that’s going to be on repeat ‘round these parts for a while.

Breakbot & Oliver

breakbot

We all got hold of the surprising B-side to French groover Breakbot’s new single a while back. Now we can check out the singles lead track which sees Breakbot back together with Irfane and sounding a bit more like the Breakbot we all know and love.

‘One Out Of Two’ is a gorgeous slice of late ‘70’s synthesizer Funk which, like the B-Side, Programme’ sees Breakbot working some interesting instrumentation into his tracks. It’s some seriously smooth, lazy Disco with a uplifting catchy chorus. Also it sounds like a wacky late ‘70’s sitcom theme. The standout of the single is easily the reMix from LA Oliver themed duo Oliver, who consistently blow us away with each new track. Here they bring a sexy late night vibe to the track with that mix of Disco and Dreamwave that Oliver do best. Wicked Disco licks and strings sit next to bouncy retro synths as Oliver work the vocal and make it even more catchy than the original.

Peter & The Magician’s ‘Memory’

Peter & The Magician

Yuksek and The Magician are back for their second original outing as Peter & The Magician. Their first ‘Twist’, kinda’ took the Nu-Disco scene by storm, well you’d expect no less from these two Disco heavyweights collaborating. Prepare for some of the best analog Funk you will hear all year.

‘Memory’ is everything we’d expect from these two. The thing I like about Peter & The Magician tracks is that you can really hear both musicians influences. You have the big Yuksek’s power chords and anthemic vocals and the melodic funk and slight Tropical vibe of The Magician, all up in the mix. This track, slightly laid back as it is, is the perfect combination of beach party and cosmic Disco, Oh! It’s like a party on a beach on another world! That’s the one! If you like Yuksek, and you like The Magician, you’ll be all over this. The whole EP is top quality, there’s a ‘Club Mix’ that gives the impression That The Magician took over a little bit as it veers more into his bouncy analog Disco territory, Le Crayon drops a traditional Nu-Disco jam, NSFW turn up the Tropical and Poindexter get old school funky. There also may be one more reMix, shhhhh.

ComboStar’s ‘Free’

combostar

It looks like Parisian Disco duo ComboStar are back for good. After breaking back on the scene earlier this year with the hit and miss ‘Combostella’ EP, ComboStar finally re-find their groove with their new single, again on La Valigetta, ‘Free’.

Featuring Mani Hoffman (the voice if The Supermen Lovers’ classic ‘Starlight’) on vocals ‘Free’ is a big DiscoPop anthem that finds it’s core in squelchy synth Funk bass, a piano hook and a big, full vocal. Poppier than anything on the previous EP, this track has got breakthrough potential, and if that’s not enough the reMix package is pretty stellar. The ‘Club Edit’ of the original works in a little more dancefloor power, make the track even more epic while the singles lad reMix comes from Louis La Roché, who delivers a nice twisted Disco mix. Funk style synths join forces with some soaring lead lines for a heavy slice of Disco with a breezy sheen. Second Date take the track down a deep House route with a real warehouse vibe. It even makes the vocals sound a bit more Chicago. Timo Juuti & Hector 87 fill the huge French Disco quote on the single with an impressive five minutes of boogie which might be the records standout mix. It keeps the song itself intact, but incorporates it into a danceflor destroying slab of cut-up Disco. ComboStar may be about to put out the record to re-insert them into the minds of dance music lovers worldwide.

Lenno reMixes Gracias

Gracias

Here’s a new reMix from one of our favourite current Nu-Disco producers, The Finnish Lenno. Originally recorded for a re-cap video of a Nike event in Helsinki, the man has now made it available to download from his Facebook page.

We briefly check out out the original, it’s well done, but pretty standard Hip Hop from Gracias called ‘40k Volts’. Lenno has stripped it down to it’s barest essentially, keeping just the occasional snatched of vocal and the rebuilt it as a main room Nu-Disco stormer. Lenno has such a huge peak time sound that is fast becoming his trademark. Dropping an extra bit of House piano into the mix, Lenno actives an even fuller track, and a groove that is guaranteed to keep the dancefloor moving. Isn’t it about time for a new Lenno EP? We definitely think so.
