[MP3] Pr0files’ ‘Call Yourself A Lover’

Pr0files

Pr0files is the new solo project from Baby Monster’s Danny Sternbaum. Baby Monster have been a fixture on electronic rumors since our beginning, despite their releases being a little too few and far between for our liking. Pr0files sees Sternbaum collaborating with long-time friend singer/keyboardist Lauren Pardini to produce some lush, swirling Dreampop. The two have worked together before in an outfit called The Boy Traveller, which featured Danny, Lauren and Skrillex (yup, apparently that was a thing that happened).

Their première track, Call Yourself A Lover, is a hazy, yet bombastic, slice of ElectroPop. With a orchestrated feel, builds itself around layers of luxurious synths that curl in and out of the track like smoke, washing the Trance-like apreggios and ElectroPop bassline in surges of dreamlike noise. Lauren’s vocal balances between ethereal and IndiePop cool, giving the track some grounding. This is one for the headphones, let it sweep you away.

Pr0files – Call Yourself A Lover

Pr0files’ début album is due out in 2013.

[Audio] Ben Mono’s ‘No Lights’

Ben Mono

Dance music renaissance man Ben Mono is never one to sty away from mixing up styles and flipping from one genre to another. We’ve seen him churn out Electro-House, Nu-Disco, Boogie, 90s House, at times mashing up one or more flavours. His latest single, No Lights, does exactly that. Bringing together a little Deep House and a little UK Garage he’s delivered another floorfiller.

Riding the wave of shuffling Garage-esque beats, this rumbling House track lays down everything you need to work up a sweat. the bassline alone is worth the admission price, a hollow sine affair that is both robotic and soulful. Add to this a rolling vocal sample and lush, rising, synths and you got a tune that transcends genres and lives on the dancefloor.

[Audio] Pyramid reMixes Goldn Retriever’s ‘I Feel Great Now’

Goldn Retriever

The latest slice of majestic French analog SynthWave from the amazing Pyramid comes in the form of this reMix for Goldn Retriever. No, not the dog (notice the lack of an ‘e’ in ‘Golden’), but the London based producer who recently released his album The Dawn Within, from which this track, I Feel Great Now is taken.

Pyramid taken the smooth, soulful Electronics of the original and morphs it into an edge Sci-fi epic with that piercing quality that only he can pull off. A menacing machine beat pounds away in the background, peppered with vintage purcussion, to provide a robotic march for incoming waves of icy, dystopian synths. Amidst all this android funk there is a real human quality to Pyramid’s music that feeds into the original’s vocals. Another quality futuristic soundtrack from Pyramid.

[Audio] Keljet & AVAN LAVA’s ‘Together’

keljet

The new single from Dutch duo Keljet, still riding high on the waves of their Love Of A Life single, sees the Disco dons teaming up with Brooklyn band AVAN LAVA for some seriously epic big room vibes. Released at the end of the month on Can You Feel It? Records, Together looks set to become a club anthem alongside reMixes from Oliver Nelson and René Amesz.

This one is all about the prefect harmony of Keljet’s big, thumping, beats and AVAN LAVA’s rousing vocals. Definitely bringing a hands-in-the-air quality to the track, the vocals are pure sing-a-long, fist pumping, fodder while Keljet’s slightly Cosmic main room Disco sound is as huge as ever. A quality combination of both acts going large and doing what they do best.

[Audio] Du Tonc’s ‘Island’

du-tonc

It’s been just over half a year since MiGHty mOUse and Matt Van Schie got together to form the unstoppable Du Tonc. The duo have achieved shit loads in that short time, world touring, acclaimed singles, it’s been am impressive rise to prominence to witness, and well deserve too, their work is a killer combination of heartfelt Indie and head nodding Disco, just the right mix of emotion and funk.

Their latest tune, Island, leans a little more toward the Indie side of things than their previous outings, but have no fear, the undulating Disco groove persists. Awash with Tropical guitars and beckoning rhythms, Island is a pretty fitting title for the track. There’s also a little bit of a 90s feel to the tune with what is almost a breakbeat repurposed into a dreamy Pop song amongst an infectious bassline. It’s not as immediate a track as Darkness or Rise, but really gets under your skin.

[Audio] Baio’s ‘Mira’

Baio

After a couple of critically acclaimed EP’s (one on Greco-Roman, the other self released) Vampire Weekend bassist Chris Baio’s House flavoured solo offerings, under the moniker Baio, move to Future Classic for the release of his new EP, Mira. The track has bee teased for a while now, but it’s finally been unleashed in all it’s glory. Check it out.

Subtly and confident in it;s own abilities, Mira eschews flashy tricks or cheesy hooks from a revolving, hypnotic groove and clever arrangement. Vocal snatches pepper the tune, riding alongside metallic stabs over a subby, grumbling bassline. Clocking in at six minutes, the track takes it time and methodically lays down new elements throughout, sometime sounding Deep House, sometimes classic 90s, sometimes more abstract Electronica but with a cohesive, mesmerizing, vibe that really draws you in.

[Audio] frYars’ ‘The Power’

fryars

The reappearance of London’s frYars with Cool Like Me earlier in the year resulted in our of our favourite tunes of 2013 so far. Now the man is following up on the runaway success of that single with his new, slightly more downtempo, release. The Power is the lead track on his forthcoming Radio PWR EP due out in October on 679.

It’s a sweeping, hand-in-the-air track, mixing up real instruments and layers of electronics to create and intimate, introspective sound. Lyrically the track is pretty genius, with some amazing lines in there I will leave you to discover. It’s pseudo-60s meets London ElectroPop groove is pretty enchanting and it’s raw production is just the right tack to take on a track like this.We expect to be hearing a lot more of The Power in coming months.
