Final DJs’ ‘BMX Madness’

Final DJs

Germany’s most synthtastic duo, Final DJs, are back with another brand new tune. these guys tend to put all kinds of stuff in their mixing bowl, this time around they’ve cooked up a little mix of French Touch and SynthWave, for a tune that is as nostalgic as it rocks hard.

They’ve got their filters sweeps working overtime on BMX Madness. It’s a track that sets the stage for their forthcoming new EP, the follow-up to their excellent Gossip Country EP, and it’s got everything you’d want from a big slice of French Disco-House. A rising filtered groove, a big retro riff and some squealing funk synths. Then things go a little 80s crazy with a wailing solo deposited right in the middle of proceedings, which sounds like it shouldn’t work, but Final DJs make it sound effortlessly right. a coursing high-point to an infectious dancefloor bomb.

Mr. Pteez’s ‘Radio Vice’

Mr. Pteez

Russian purveyor of sweet Electro Boogie and SynthWave Mr. Pteez is back. After impressing us a number of times with his combination of rich retro synths and B-Boy beats, and now after a few months of silence Pteez has conjured up a brand new swatch of dreamy synth sounds.

Radio Vice is more traditional SynthWave (if that is even a ‘thing’) than Pteez’s past offerings, but here he shows that when he turns his hand to straight-up Outrun, he’s still got the chops. Pteez’s signature is his deep, warm synths. Everything sounds so hazy and comfortable, there’s no abrasive riffs here, it’s all synth lushness. With a smooth, pounding Italo bassline and filtered claps driving the track, it;s still got the energy level of Pteez’s other work, but here that’s surrounded by intertwining, smoky, lead lines. All too short though.

Hot Hot Hawk’s ‘Rise and Down’ reMixes

Hot Hot Hawk

Wearerussians are bringing us the best of Russian synth and Disco once again with the new EP from Hot Hot Hawk. the track itself, Rise And Down featuring the vocals of Ksenia Popova, has been out a while now. We covered it back in August, but now Wearerussians have dropped a full reMix package, for free no less.

Rise And Down, is a piercing vocal Disco track that nicely merges hot Hot Hawks lush, vintage sound with Ksenia’s accented vocals. Adding a little Tropical vibe to Hot Hot Hawks usual output, Rise And Fall has got more than a couple of summer anthem qualities. Phalanxes Of Fingers beef up the ‘80’s Disco side of Rise And Fall’s equation with big synth stabs and a playful lead line whist ElectroPopper Voyager instil the track with a warehouse vibe and some nice early ‘90’s House tones. Moskva-Kassiopeya deliver a pumping Electro track for their version. Starting off gently, Moskva-Kassiopeya gradually build their reMix into a galactic dancefloor monster. The reMix package also comes with work from electronic producer Acid Harbour, and the whole thing is well worth picking up. Russia shows us how it;s done once again!

Com Truise reMixes Sky Ferreira

Sky Ferreira

American ex-ElectroPop waif turned “American singer, songwriter, model, and actress” (passable, but not really exceling at any one vocation) Sky Ferreira has a new EP out in November. The result of being tossed around from label to label, producer to producer, with no clear vision of her own, the Ghost EP, is the next chapter in her confusing, if occasionally  musically pleasing, career. Of particular interest is the lead track, Red Lips and it’s workout by Brooklyn’s king of SynthWave, Mr. Com Truise.

Truise mixes in the Post-Punk guitar of the original with his own vintage synth sounds, which sometimes makes for unusual tones, but luckily doesn’t last long before descending into a full-on collision between the Sci-Fi sounds of Com Truise and the husky vocal of Ms. Ferreira. Com gets busy with rolling analog synth arpeggios and rapid fire and he drags Sky into his dark future world. It;s a strange combination, but one that end up working really well.

L’Equipe Du Son’s new EP

L’Equipe Du Son

Dutch master of all things retro Electro, L’Equipe Du Son releases a new EP this week. It’s a collection of tracks from earlier in the year and serves to tide us over while we wait for the man’s second album, The Odyssey Project, to be released in December.

Indian Laserdisco is the title track of the EP, and it’s a massive mixture of early ‘90’s House and ‘80’s Electro Boogie. With an infectious hook and some huge, piecing synths, Indian Laserdisco places a House beat next to Electro Funk percussion and bassline with a House riff and choppy samples that will stick in your head. Magic Johnstien keeps the House vibe going with a relentless piano riff that revolves around the track and it’s Disco samples until it burns itself onto your brain. All-in-all more Housy than we are used to from L’Equipe Du Son, but additively funky nonetheless.

Monsieur Adi’s ‘Dystopia’

Monsieur Adi

Monsieur Adi continues to prove he’s one of the best producers in the world today. Not only does every new release impress, but it always surprises too, and that’s a rare and exciting thing. Take his latest track, Dystopia, the first to feature the vocals of Adi himself, and moody SynthPop track with a French touch.

Dystopia truly is a beautiful and involving track, filled with nuances of sound. Atmospheric and brooding, yet with a strong wave of optimism, mainly delivered by Adi’s gently vocal. One again Adi coveys pure emotion with his music, with comforting effected drums and rich synths that swirl around your head. this is all accompanied by Adi’s orchestration, we’ve commented before about the quality of Adi’s string arrangements and here they shine like never before, helped with a hint of a choir. It’s a stunning piece of work, and one that demands repeated listenings to fully appreciate.

Mitch Murder’s ‘Rush’

mitch murder

Tension mount thought Swedish SynthWave master Mitch Murder’s new tune, Rush. Back in a soundtrack groove after the retro Pop of Feel The Air and the Twin Peaks homage Traces To Nowhere, Rush sees Mitch back doing what he does best, being better than everyone else in the world at 80’s synthesizer soundtrack music.

And Rush is a soundtrack unto itself, taking the listen through three or four ‘set pieces’, from the frantic opening section that sets up the action, this is lead by a soaring solo into a more relaxed chunk, contemplative synth work and intertwining melodies forming a reflective mood. Following from this the high pace picks up again, this time more jarring and disjointed, the digital bass trying to keep to with the different flying elements as the track heads into a big string finale. How Mitch takes us on this electronic music journey is a work of art. No one rocks a synth like Mitch Murder, and no-one tells a story quite like him either.

Jordan F’s ‘Under The Sun’

jordan-f_thumb

Another new track from Australia’s reigning SynthWave heavyweight champion Jordan F hit the streets this weekend. Certain corners of the SynthWave scene are unfortunately getting a bit bogged down, as quantity over quality rules and tracks are released unmastered, or mastered by a mate, or unfinished, resulting in a barrage of tinny, mid-range, half hearted productions that are a danger of drowning the cream of the scene. Luckily, Jordan’s tracks, mastered or not, always rise to the top as he takes his time with productions, allowing his natural talent, both musically and in production, room to shine.

Under The Sun is a reflective synth track. In a timely way it feels like a farewell to the summer. Which is appropriate, coming a couple of months after Jordan’s last track Bikini Girls. A mid-tempo tune, full of rich and deep synth sounds and dreamy melodies. Nostalgic, without out being sad. Pensive, without being depressing. Jordan’s emotional electronic music waves goodbye to the partying months and looks forward to next year. While you;re here, check out this reMix of Jordan’s Aurora, by Italian SynthWave newcomer Vincenzo Salvia, who delivers some piercing lead work and a multi layered sound.
