In Flagranti’s new single

In Flagranti

Purveyors of perverted Disco In Flagranti return this month with a new single on Codek. Aside from desperately needing some kind of web presence (MySpace page is all that’s working? Really guys?) In Flagranti have been responsible for some of the most infectious tracks in the past five years. This new single, Interdisciplinary, sees the Swiss duo heading in a deeper, more synthetic, direction.

Built around a sample from Peter Gordon & Love of Life Orchestra’s classic ‘Don’t Don’t’ from 1980, Interdisciplinary, still has that In Flagranti Disco pump but folds into it a, dare I say it, old school EBM metallic twang alongside some of the best use of vocal samples you’ll hear in a while. Originally released in 2011 after loads of play and a spot on the Gildas’ Kitsuné Club Mix album the track finally sees a decent release with a packed reMix collection. Included in the line up are MODE, who turn the track into a late ‘70’s Disco epic, all wicked licks and big dramatic piano. I’d say Renkas’ mix was most up our street. It’s a deep synth heavy DiscoPop track with added deadpan ElectroClash  vocal. It almost sounds retro now! Marius delivers the cosmic end of Disco that works the vocal samples to theatrical effect and builds his reMix to a funky crescendo. Bear Damen’s reMix is, well, lets face it, its’ actually an EBM track, a pretty good one too. Heavy 242 basslines and electronic noodling ahoy! The single also includes word from the likes of Jaguar Trax and is a surprising slice of dark Disco from these guys, but very welcome.

DJ Falcon reMixes Justice

Justice

Well this is probably the best thing to come out of new-era Justice so far.  Legendary French Touch master and one half od Together, DJ Falcon, has taken on Justice’s new single New Lands from their recent album, Audio, Video, Disco.

In fact, the whole EP is the best thing Justice have released in awhile, reMixes come from A-Trak and SebastiAn too, both top quality, but Falcon’s takes the prize. Slick rolling Disco grooves and warm, lush synths that carry along with the tune. There’s almost a Dreamwave quality to the track, a sunshine optimism, that is until the four minute mark where things get a little more French Electro.

Dizkopolis reMix OJ Law

OJ Law

The best thing to come out of Kuala Lumpur and our good friends Dizkopolis have dropped a brand new reMix, and it’s as smooth as ever. this time they are tackling fellow Malaysian and Indie singer OJ Law.

reMixing Law’s track Yoñlu, Dizkopolis have delivered a slick slice of Dreamwave as only the can. Consistently producing the most dreamy of retro synth tracks with a Disco edge this production duo conjure nostalgic feelings of good time with each and every one of their tunes. This reMix of Yoñlu is no different, a laid back Disco beat rolls onwards amongst a lush amalgamation of thick, soft, synths and a walking bassline. This makes the perfect backing for OJ Law’s soft spoken Folksy style and produces a track made for lazing around on the beach. Nothing but good times here.

Digitalism’s ‘Encore’ reMixes

Digitalism

German Electro masters Digitalism are currently gearing up for the release of the eagerly awaited DJ-KICKS mix album, and reeling from an interview from us but still have time to drop new tracks. ‘Encore’ dos what it says on the tin, it’s a Beatport exclusive companion to their DJ-KICKS release featuring two reMixes from one of their new tracks.

First up is renowned German House producer Solomun, who’s deep mix is so analog and retro that is boarders on SynthWave. Sparse but groovy, Solomun really milks his robo Funk bassline and ‘80’s chords to maximum effect whist nodding to Digitalism’s Electro roots in the breakdown. Spiller teams up with 2 Guys In Venice produce exactly the kind of filtered Disco House that you would expect from names like these getting together. It’s funky as all hell, but a little meandering considering who’s involved.

‘Retro Futuristic Sound: Revisited 2k12’

kiez

KIEZ BEATS are about to release yet another awesome compilation of retro Electro sounds. These guys really are shifting, maybe under Futurecop!’s influence, straight into the SynthWave territory. Sure, there are still hints of Nu-Disco and Dreamwave scattered about ‘Retro Futuristic Sound: Revisited 2k12’’s whopping 20 tracks, but this is mostly headed down the same road as Outrun.

Pelifics and Electric Youth’s ‘Wish It Could Last’ also makes an appearance, sounding as ‘80’s as ever. Plastic Plates reMixes Van She

Van She

In the second of today’s surprise new Plastic Plates reMixes he takes on the second single from Australian Indie-Electro legends Van She awesome forthcoming second album, ‘Jamaica’. Plastic Plates really outdoes himself this time.

First up, Plastic Plates wisely keeps hold of the Caribbean, Tropical flavour to the track, it what makes the track what it is and the song probably wouldn’t make sense without it. What Plastic Plates felt it did need, however, was a bouncy synthetic Disco groove. And that’s exactly what he did. Loaded with lush synths and off beat chords the track is summer dancefloor gold, but it’s amazingly subtle too, never overpowering the laid back vibe of the original. which all results in a track that’ll compel you to dance, but in a chilled way. Enjoy.

Plastic Plates reMixes Sneaky Sound System

Sneaky Sound System

Apparently, Felix Bloxsom A.K.A. Plastic Plates takes much of his inspiration from busses. You wait for a Plastic Plates track for ages then two come along at once. In the first of two Electro groovin’ reMixes from the La based Australian, he takes on fellow Aussies, ElectroPop heroes Sneaky Sound System.

reMixing their ‘Friends’, Plastic Plates bring a synthetic Funk to the track. The original already has a pretty solid Disco groove, but PP ramps up an analog sounding cosmic vibe that has a raw quality to it that works brilliantly with the lovely Connie Mitchell’s smooth a silk vocals delivery. Hopefully this sudden glut of Plastic Plates reMixes hints at something new coming from the man on the horizon. Definitely more like this reMix would be appreciated.

A Girl Called Ruth

A Girl Called Ruth

A Girl Called Ruth is a, sort of Welsh, multi-national singer/songwriter from London just starting her big push. A lot of young female singers have passed through these pages on their was to the charts, or the bin, and we’d like to think we have developed a knack for spotting the ones who have a fair chance of ‘making it’. We’d say A Girl Called Ruth has a better chance than most, her début single ‘You I See’ is catchy and slick. It’s got that standard mid-tempo safe Pop feel, but is youthful enough not to get lost in the noise.

You can catch the video for ‘You I See’ here, it’s good track that has really grown on us, but it’s a bit too Folk Pop for these column inches (yes, we do occasionally like music that falls outside this webzine’s remit), however there are two pretty dope reMixes we think out reader will dig. Our favourite is a smooth Disco-House mix from Young Favourite, who works the vocal perfectly, switching the mood from introspection to out-and-out anthem and alongside Young Favourites dance groove A Girl Called Ruth, or Ruth as we are going to be calling her from now on, starts to sound a bit Sophie Ellis-Bextor, no bad thing. Nixon offers up a warp bassed breakbeat track with an ominous tone. Whilst, obviously, we’d be secretly hoping that A Girl Called Ruth busts out some ElectroPop for her next single, in general, A Webzine Called Electronic Rumors quite likes this.
